PSA: Silk PJs

I was laying in bed last night thinking that I needed to share this with all of you. I didn't want it to get buried in the randoms thread or something because I didn't know this as a FTM, and I wish I had, so I had to make a new post!

If you are already uncomfortable in bed, especially when it comes to turning over (if you are not yet, it is likely to come in the 3rd tri at some point), buy some silk pjs!  My mom bought me some from VS when I gave birth to my first and I lived in them when I came home because I would literally be able to slip in and out of bed all night for the baby and while I was recovering it was a dream. Then when I was pregnant with #2 I started wearing them a lot in the 3rd tri when turning over became a chore. They just help you move SO much easier! It's hard to explain what a difference they make until you experience it. I am sure that silk sheets would accomplish the same but I'm not interested in those.

If you already have some and know what I am talking about, tell me! If you go buy some now, tell me what you think after a few nights! I recommend the ones from VS. They have them in shorts/short sleeve version, too, for when summer comes. Obviously not maternity so you will need to buy bigger, but they are made to be pretty roomy anyway and the bottoms are drawstring. And again, they are so wonderful after baby comes, too.

Don't sleep on the couch. :-)
  • I need these. I've been wearing flannel PJs to stay warm in the winter but my constant readjusting all night long is not easy in them

  • I found them helpful at the hospital as well, it made it much easier to slide in and out of the hospital bed to use the bathroom without putting a lot of pressure on my episiotomy in the process.

  • @neludelu hahahaha, that is hilarious! I bet you didn't think it was at the time, but that is pretty funny!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 Yeah, they are not the best for warmth but once you are in bed you get warm in the covers anyway so, for me, who is always cold, the silk trumps warm every time. Let me know if you try!

You're correct, at the time hormonal me cried for that hour thinking I would never be able to move again (the drama was real that day) now it's probably my funniest memory of that week.
  • @JAGinMI I already told DH I need to go shopping for silk PJs this weekend. When I told him why, he said "let's not wait for the weekend, we're going tomorrow!" LOL.

  • I got so fed up with my shorts last night I took them off and slept in my tank top and undies.  I may need to get some silk pjs!
  • Nice tip! Turning over in bed feels like an Olympic event or something right now.
  • Anyone have tips on where I can get plus size silk or satin PJs that don't cost a million dollars?
  • @kcrocetto27 you can Google satin versus silk and you may get more results. The ones I have from VS are actually satin. Here's some at a great price: https://m.macys.com/shop/product/thalia-sodi-plus-size-satin-contrast-trimmed-pajama-set-only-at-macys?ID=2960054&CategoryID=32921

Looks like Macy's has more options, too. Good luck, you will love being able to turn over easily in bed!

  • I am going to look into the silk pj's too. Now if only flipping over my snoogle pillow was easier!

@swanbrooner I feel the exact same way! I tend to move around a lot when I'm trying to fall asleep and it is so exhausting!
  • @swanbrooner and @MKRLTX I am telling you, I cannot imagine you will regret getting some. I have two I have been rotating for many weeks and some nights they haven't been clean and I feel like it makes turning over 100% harder! And they will definitely help in the same way when you get home from the hospital and you are super sore and constantly getting in and out of bed at night.

  • I've been avoiding this issue by just sleeping in panties and a sports bra since it got hard to turn over in regular pjs. But everytime someone is staying at my house now I have to wear real clothes in case they are in the hallway when I get up to pee. It sucks. I should have bought the silk pjs!

Add me to the no PJ's club.... but that's been pretty much my MO as long as I can remember.  Putting on PJ's after the little one gets with because of all the, ehem, leakage, is going to be a big adjustment!

  • So does anyone have any tips to combat the extreme static cling that also comes with silk pjs?

Try pinning a safety pin into the hem.  Or take a dryer sheet and rub it over the clingy areas.

  • I wore silk pj pants years ago and had to stop because they didn't breathe at all and I got super hot and sweaty. Now that I'm constantly super hot and sweaty while sleeping anyway, I can't imagine wearing those pj's again. Did I just get a bad pair or has silk pj technology evolved?
  • @CapricaAndrea maybe that's the difference between silk and satin? I don't know but I've never been hot in mine and they are satin.

I gotta say that I think silk/satin would be even better than naked/underwear because the material actually aids you in turning over.

And now I'm just starting to just feel like a weird silk pj salesperson...

  • I've officially stopped sleeping with sheets.. even with the air and fan on I am still too warm... but I did buy a set of silk/satin short pjs from VS last night to wear at the hospital. It has the button up top so I figured it would be easy to breastfeed with too.
