  • @Saralee797 My RE recommended I take up to 600 mg of coq10 each day and I recently switched to ubiquinol which (if I understand this right) is what coq10 becomes when absorbed by the body.

@hartmich @adirat I also asked RE about DHEA and he had me taking 25 mg 3 times a day and then told me to stop when I started on the stims.

    @wabash15 Good luck friend!!!

Take a look at my blog

  • I looked back at the book about DHEA. It says, Even though DHEA is sold over the counter as a nutritional supplement, it is actually a hormone so you should talk to your fertility specialist before taking it. You should not take DHEA if you have PCOS or certain cancers.

For me -- it took me more than a year to get my hypothyroidism under control so I avoid anything that might mess with it. Thus I decided not to try DHEA. The Mayo Clinic specifically notes that it can affect thyroid levels: https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/dhea/safety/hrb-20059173

  • @wabash15 GL today!!!

I keep the ubiquinol on  my Amazon list and check the price daily, and wait for the price to drop to $28-29 and then plan on buying it then. It did drop to $29 yesterday and I forgot to buy it and now today it is back up to $35... boo...

  • Stupid west coast, sorry I'm late @wabash15!! Good luck today treatment buddy!!!
  • @juneroseruby I bought ubiquinol (instead of regular coq10) at Trader Joe's and it was MUCH cheaper than online.

  • @wabash15 Yay great news! Fx for you and the lucky husband dance!

@antoto Oh gosh I took vitex for a week and it was the worst! I totally agree with you.

  • @adirat I get Ubiquinol from Costco, $35 a bottle. Is Trader Joe's cheaper? There isn't a TJ's near me so I have to make a special trip but I will do it for cheap meds! Plus all the cheese and deliciousness of TJs.

  • @adirat Ah, I guess when I saw DHEA was a no-no for PCOS, I stopped reading about it haha. Also, I was browsing through the folder my RE gave me this morning because I was looking for the sheet about rubella, and I noticed that under the "diet" section, they recommend reducing or avoiding soy for everyone. I know this has been quite the feat for you and now I'm scared!

  • @eggplantface What's the size of the bottle? It's $20 for a 1-month supply for two people/2-month supply for one person at TJ's.

  • @hartmich The plus side is that once you've avoided soy for a little while and found replacements for the things you miss, it isn't as hard anymore. I ended up finding an avocado oil-based mayo (my parents sent it to me from Costco actually), soy-free chocolate chips, soy lecithin-free vitamins, all sorts of substitutes. You just have to look. It's more doable than I thought at first!

  • @adirat Do you eat a lot of Asian food? I looooove soy sauce and make stir fry like every other week. I guess that's out the window now. Boooooo.

200mg, 90 pills. So, if I did my math correctly, 90 Trader Joe's pills would be $30 (assuming a 2-month supply is 60 and it's the same mgs), so $5 cheaper. I'll take a look next time I get to a TJs.

@wabash15 I'm so glad the IUI went well!

The soy thing annoys me. Because I put soy sauce on my frozen veggies. Ugh. Without it this is me:

  • @laurad75 I think I am only taking 100 mg pshh I'm going to have to look at the book. I could ask my RE but I feel like she is all about the drugs.
  • Yeah -- I do really, really, really miss Chinese and Japanese food.

I have started making Thai food at home, which uses fish sauce instead of soy sauce. It isn't the same obviously, but it helps satiate my urge for takeout. (My husband sometimes gets sushi without me now too :(

  • Soy is definitely not recommended but I think moderation is key TBH. If you cut soy out elsewhere where it definitely isn't needed, having soy sauce with your food occasionally isn't going to do you much harm.

Soy is especially negative in males since it can act estrogenic and can harshly impact sperm count/quality. We try to buy soy free tuna (which is difficult to find and alway x2 the price), etc but I do cook with soy sauce sometimes.

  • My endocrinologist recommended avoiding soy always. But I sometimes eat soy during AF because CD1 = fuck it all. I never eat anything with soy during my luteal phase, though. If you want to ease into it, the staggered approach may be worth trying.

  • I know Tamari is gluten free but i think it still has soy @adirat ?
  • @saralee797 Right, tamari is a different kind of soy sauce without wheat in it, but it's still soy.

@hartmich I haven't gotten the diet chapters of It Starts with the Egg yet, but I know it's going to say "eat less pasta" and my Italian husband is going to think it's criminal. We also love our carbs.

  • @TravelingCouple I've never used a cup, but from what I understand it doesn't have any effect. The good sperm will already be on their way by the time you get it in, so you're really just holding dead sperm inside your vagina.

Never use a cup! The only thing you'll get is an infection.

Or as I once called it: Hot Cooter Soup
