Baby Names

Vivian back up for my Team Green

Current front runner is Vivian Rachael. Spelling is a family name, non-negotiable.
DS's name is like Cyrus Heinrich, but not exactly. We have a German-American last name.

Broad criteria (not all required): Jewish-friendly, a real name, somewhat classic but maybe not, not too cutesy/girly, ideally a family name. Literary references are good. I have a weird obsession with her name sounding "like it fits a CEO" but know that's subjective and weird.

-I like Astrid but DH vetoed it, which is for the better. He likes Abigail and Hazel, I vetoed.
-Other names we both like but can't use are Elena, Beatrice, Frida, Sylvie and Celia.
-We both like Alexandra, but not 100% sold.

Boys names that we both love: Julian, Ari, Isaac.

What girl names am I overlooking? I feel like I have looked at every list out there... TIA!

  • Loading the player...
  • I love Alexandra, its underused and beautiful. Vivian is tired, imo.

    Suggestions:
    Liesel/Lisette
    Alessandra
    Adelaide
Katharina (h can be silent, or removed)
  • Lael
    Lilia
    Lyda
    Freya
    Flora
    Dagney
    Carla
    Camille
    Heidi
    Josephine
    Valentina

  • Thanks! Lorelei is the famous poem by Heinrich Heine, who inspired our son's MN. I wish I liked the name better. Hmmm, maybe as a MN.

I love Ingrid, but DH doesn't. We both like Etta (and Harriet is a family name). Thanks!!

Other suggestions I love and will use to guide the search (because DH said no): Eliana, Zelda.

I also like Hannah but it's too close to my name.

Thanks, ladies! And please keep the ideas coming if you have them.
  • No suggestions because I'm terrible at them, but giving support to Lorelei (guilty pleasure name of mine), Josephine, Camille, Lisette, Celeste, Judith, Bethany, Leah
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Honestly, I would use Rachael as the FN. But what about:
    Ailsa
    Eve
    Leah
    Zara
    Naomi
    Ilana
    Avia/ Aviva
    Bettina

  • Anne
    Louisa
    Matilda
    Claire
    Juliet/Juliette
    Eloise
    Alice

    Fiona, Lucille/Lucy, Hazel
  • I was just going to suggest Fiona and see that pp did.   I am suddenly crushing on Fiona and meanwhile we had a discussion a few nights ago where we basically agreed on Vivian Kay for this team green baby.  Now I feel like I need to discuss Fiona with DH bc something about it "feels" right.
  • I love Fiona so much. it was on my list but dh said no
  • Esther - Works as a Hebrew name, but is also Persian like Cyrus is, which could be cool as a subtle connection
    Anna
    Naomi
    Leah
    Judith
    Bethany
    Laila/Lila/Layla
    Yael
    Veronica
Felicity - not sure if this really meets your criteria, it is just one of my favorite names.

  • I like Felicity, Juliet, Ivy, Stella...
  • As common as it was in the 80's, Jessica actually fits your girl criteria. It was orginally formed in English by Shakespeare for The Merchant of Venice, and she was a Jew. It's from the Hebrew Iscah, and is mentioned once in the Torah as the niece of Abraham.

For a boy, I'm partial to Asher.

    Good luck
    The McC 3 - DH, (38) Me, (34) and DS (3)
    A.J.M. - Born 6/11/13 after 17 BFNs including 1 failed IUI.
Maybe Baby #2 - Started TTC Feb 2015. Called it quits after 29 cycles.
  • There are some seriously thoughtful suggestions in here. Thank you, ladies!!
