Stretch mark body lotion

Hey! At what point should we start using body lotion to try and minimise stretch marks, and does anyone have any recommendations as to a good brand? I'm 8w1d and a FTM. Don't know whether it's worth starting to apply body lotion now or waiting until I start to show

Re: Stretch mark body lotion

  • I used burts bees mama oil or something like that. I didn't have a single one from my first PG. I'll probably start using it again soon.

  • Agree with PP... you either get them or you don't, and it's all genetic! I had stretch marks on my thighs from puberty, and knew I was a goner my first pregnancy. Sure enough, new stretch marks on my thighs, stomach and sides, despite religiously applying coco butter everywhere.
  • I have terrible stretch marks on my thighs and breasts from puberty but I didn't get a single stretch mark during pregnancy. Was it the Burt's Bees Momma Bee cream I used every day? I don't know, but it wasn't that big of an expense so I'm going to use it again this time around.

"I'm having fruit salad for dinner. Well, it's mostly just grapes, actually. Ok all grapes. Fermented grapes. Fine, I'm having wine for dinner."
  • I use the Palmer's body butter and stretch mark lotion. I'm not sure if they helped but they definitely didn't hurt. I've only got a couple of tiny barely noticeable stretchies. Of course, later on in life I gained weight outside of pregnancy and now have stretch marks on my hips and boobs lol.

I will still be lotioning up once I start showing. I like feeling all soft and smooth.

Used this stuff too with my first. No stretch marks, but being mixed with West African I use tons of coco butter and she a butter regularly.  I like the Palmer because I feel like I smell like tootsie rolls.  I've already started with it but also because it's winter and I'm dry.

  • @Lizlann my thoughts exactly...it's not expensive and did it help? Who knows, but I'm doing it again! And the oil feels good when your skin is tight.

I always think of Kim kardashian saying stretch marks are caused by scratching your belly hahaha
  • If you're going to get stretch marks you will get them no matter what brand or how much lotion you use. Stretch marks are genetic. Some people gain 80 pounds only in the uterus and never have a single mark. Others gain 20 and are covered in marks. They fade eventually. Don't waste your money on "miracle creams".
    This.

Using lotion helps with the itchy-ness but nothing short of lucky genetics is going to prevent stretchmarks.

I used coconut oil last time.

  • Just an FYI with cocoa butter, but good friend was told to stop using it during her pregnancy because her babe was responding too much to the caffeine!  She was also drinking the (allowed) amount of coffee, but I guess the cocoa butter pushed her over the edge.  I had never heard of that but I plan on using maybe coconut oil or something else to keep my skin moisturized!

Interesting. Being from Ghana we use it for everything. I just looked it up, looks perfectly fine

  • Interesting!  @kaylaakosua Just passing along my friend's experience.  I have a PGAL brain so I'm very hypersensitive to anything "safety" related :)

  • @kaylaakosua Maybe the caffeine and chocolate?  Her babe does have a sweet tooth now!  Maybe she just got overly excited!  You never know!

  • Very well could be. Caffeine is so sneaky it's in so many things! @sableeg

  • I used sweet almond oil all over my belly, hips, and butt. No stretch marks here. I know they're genetic, but taking care of stretching skin is never a bad idea. Use something for that reason alone.
  • I used the Palmer's Cocoa Butter Stretch Mark lotion with my first pregnancy and did not get stretch marks. Don't know if the lotion did the trick, or I just got lucky. I have heard it has to do with your genes.

This times 100. I tried everything and my stomach still looks like it was ok a fight with a large cat like animal.

  • Yeah I agree on the genetics part. You either get them or you don't. I'm using lotion anyway just to soothe my stretching skin a bit.
