UPDATED - HSG soon, very light AF - scared & anxious

weareturtlesweareturtles member
edited February 2017 in TTC After a Loss
I've been avoiding TB to keep my mind off of things, but I have an impending HSG coming up on 2/7/17 that has been making me anxious and scared, so I'm turning to TB for some support. After all DH & I have been through, I'm expecting more roadblocks, especially since AF has been incredibly light/short the past 2 cycles since my hysteroscopy to remove RPOC.

I am not as anxious about the HSG test itself, but what the findings will be. I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for another roadblock, but I honestly don't know how I'm going to take it. I'd be super happy to know that there is no scarring and it's just as we thought it was - my left tube is blocked. I'd be ecstatic to know that everything is now clear. Yet, what my gut tells me is that I have scarring (Asherman's) and it's going to be a long road ahead, and children may not be in the cards for us.

I'm so sorry for all the anxiety and the shitty situation. @weareturtles. I have no experience with this test or Asherman's, but I wanted to send hugs and say that we are here for you, no matter the outcome. <3
  • Options
@weareturtles I understand the anxiety, but try to keep reminding yourself that Asherman's is extremely rare in the US.  And there are treatments even if it's that.  Good luck  <3

@weareturles - Im sorry you are going through a tough time. I had an HSG test done and the test itself is very quick and you do find out the results right away. I know that probably doesn't help you worry less  though. Fx everything goes well for you!

I wish that helped! Everything I've gone through the doctors keep telling me "how rare" it is - pregnant with triplets including identical twins at the same time, miscarrying the singleton, then told that as long as there were heartbeats for the identical, we would likely not lose them, then we lost the identical twins despite weeks of good heartbeats, then retained products and HCG that would't drop and all the other stuff...

I feel like I should be done with the rare, but it seems to be the theme. Thanks for the positive thoughts!

It really sucks being the 'rare' and falling into the 'this is extremely unlikely to happen' category.  I hope you're over the rare too and get some very good news!

    UPDATE

I just got back from my HSG. Unofficially (I don't have the final report), there is good news and bad news...

Bad news: I have Asherman's. My uterine cavity filled with contrast agent (i.e. dye) overall, but the corner areas where my fallopian tubes meet my uterus showed Ashermans.
Good news: Both tubes are open! So despite the Asherman's right at the opening to my fallopian tubes, things can get through! The OB that was doing the procedure was very excited about that, which made me feel like there was hope.

I have mixed feelings, but I feel much better than I did yesterday/this morning (I didn't sleep much last night, had nightmares when I did, and have been super stressed with anxiety). My regular OB still has to get back to me as far as what all of this means and I assume she will be getting feedback from the infertility specialists to see what they recommend as far as the Asherman's goes. Fingers crossed!

    ~

For the record, the HSG wasn't very painful. The clamp that was on my cervix was uncomfortable but not unbearable. The balloon that inflated my uterus caused cramping that was not fun, but I got used to it. The dye didn't hurt at all going in. I had some red spotting right afterwards, and no cramps since.

I'm so happy you got good news overall @weareturtles! Hopefully the fact that most of your uterus doesn't show Asherman's is a good thing! For what it's worth, there was a woman on my second BMB who had Asherman's and managed to carry at least through first tri (I stopped visiting the BMB after my loss, so I don't know if she delivered, but she was saying the most likely time for loss for her was first tri, so...) Maybe that anecdote helps you? In any case, I'm very happy for you!

Spoke to my doctors at length and they say I need more hysteroscopies to deal with the Asherman's. I am going in on Monday to start dealing with the adhesions. More hormones, balloon, etc. Depending on how bad it is, I may need more operative hysteroscopies but at least a diagnostic hysteroscopy to make sure everything is gone.

    Long road ahead still...very frustrating.

    UPDATE:

Surgery on 2/13 - didn't go well. They had to stop before everything was resected because of the risks from the fluid deficit (I was at risk of bad things happening), so we have to have another 2 procedures (at least). I'm back to having a balloon in for a week, tons of hormones, etc for the next month. FML.

I know it doesn't make it easier and I know you've probably been told 500x but that incompetent idiot should be paying for every dime of every procedure you're having to have done to fix their mistake. This just makes me so angry that there are doctors who are so dismissive of patients and refuse to treat them properly. Take care of you and I'll continue to think of you and your husband.

Thanks @rainafire77! I appreciative how you've kept a close watch on me. I know that the doctor should have to pay for everything, but I'm just trying to get to focus on the next step for now. My insurance company requires arbitration for medical lawsuits, so there is always that as a possibility, but I am not going to go down that path yet. Perhaps in the future we will, but for now, we are dealing with doctors who are trying to get us to a better point and we hope that will, one day, happen, and I will stop having the rarest of the rare things happen to me.
