Trying to Get Pregnant

The Great Big GTKY Thread

I thought this might be fun!

Here's how it works - One person posts a GTKY question and then the next person answers their question and posts their own GTKY, which is in turn answered by another person who posts yet another GTKY and on and on.  The questions can be an simple or complex as you want.  Have at it ladies!

I went through several phases. First was a veterinarian. Then it was POTUS, then it was a lawyer. I went into college intending to go to law school and changed my mind in my first year. I still don't really know what I want to be when I grow up!

  • I had gone to a very small, private Christian school up until high school. So, I was a totally new girl in a class of 500 freshman. It took a long time for me to feel comfortable and find friends. I ended up with a nice group of friends, but never really felt part of the group. I also didn't participate in any school-related sports or activities because I rode horses competitively and that took up most of my time.

College was much better than high school. I finally felt like I found "my" people.

What was your first car? Did your parents help you buy it or did you have to buy it yourself?
  • My first car was a Chevy bronco. I bought it. I paid insurance. It was all me.

The first car that I drove regularly as mine was a (93?) Toyota Camry.  I used to call it a luxury POS because it had a wire hanger for an antenna but also had working a/c.  My sister bought it as a temporary car until she could save up to buy her own car then gave it to my brother who gave it to my dad who let me drive it.  It went to the junkyard after the tire fell off while I was driving on the freeway (imagine driving along and all of a sudden you see your tire rolling along the freeway in front of you).  It's pretty damn funny now but kinda scary when it happened!

ETA apparently that was a popular question!  To answer @hartmich I've been told that I look like Anna Chlumsky (Veda from My Girl) and Kim Basinger

Most of my family lives out of state. But I am pretty close with my mother, we talk on the phone every day while I drive home from work. I talk with my dad less often, but he isn't much of a talker. My brother lives about an hour away and we see him every few months and my sister is in college a few states over, so mostly see her in the summers.

DH's family (mother, brother and sister) all live in our town, but he doesn't see them often. He talks with his brother, but mostly the weekends. He hasn't seen or heard from his dad since he was 10. His family dynamics are quite different from mine.

I LOVE PETS. ALL PETS, all of the buddies. Except... my DH is allergic to all of the planet. Do you know how "first world oppressed" I feel? I went from lizards, horses, hamsters, dogs, cats... to not even an ant. Alas, for love.

We might get a hypoallergenic dog one day, but no one seems to want to let us adopt one for unknown reasons. It's a cruel world.

What are you hobbies during your spare time?
My husband and I really like to hike, so we do a lot of hiking on the weekends. I like to cook (not bake, but cook), and while this may not be the most exciting, I am a tv show junkie. My biggest hobby is travel, but I don't really do that in my spare time since I like to go to Europe and Africa and Asia moreso than local traveling.

I do not speak a second language. I think if I had the chance to learn a second language I would learn Italian. It's not a practical language to learn, as I would never use it, but I just think it's a beautiful language!

@VLillyV (or any one) if you're open to adopting a dog internationally let me know. I volunteer with a rescue group here in Korea but they find adopters in the U.S. and Canada regularly (and other countries). There are tons of Maltese and Poodles here (hypoallergenic) and don't do crazy home checks. As if a 5lb dog absolutely needs a half acre fenced in yard, mine won't even get off the couch to greet me half the time. I think shelters make it hard for some people to adopt. Also the fees are about the same as U.S. adoption fees but they usually aren't spayed or ne
