Re: PGAL check-in: 2/1

  • It's been a long road for me, but long story short, I had an early miscarriage at 6w3d in late 2015. I was then diagnosed with chronic, neurological lyme disease and underwent treatment for over a year. I'm still treating (lyme will never go away, only go into remission, we hope!) but I'm on pregnancy-safe medication.

    1) How far along are you?
    5 weeks 6 days
    2) How are you feeling physically and emotionally?
physically I feel awesome. I live in chronic pain, but since getting pregnant, the pain is gone!! This happens often with women who suffer from chronic pain. My lyme symptoms have disappeared- the hormones are masking them or getting rid of them. I'm sleeping beautifully for the first time in 10 years. I'm hungry all the time, and fatigued. My boobs hurt, especially in the middle of the night, but otherwise not much- no morning sickness at all.
    3) When is your next appointment?
Not for a while. We're doing this with midwives, and they won't even see you till a doppler can find the heartbeat (10 weeks or so.) I've been so monitored for the past year- weekly CBCs and more- that I know the status of my health, every level and organ functioning, I am just ready to not be poked and prodded for a while.

    4) Rants/Raves/Questions
My therapist has helped me deal with the PGAL brain. We decided that the first trimester is just going to suck for me. I'm scared and sometimes paranoid and it's tough to get attached. That was freeing, because it removed the pressure to feel all happy and precious. This pregnancy is totally abstract so far.

    5) GTKY: how did you and your SO/DH meet?
Many years ago, I was dating his best friend. I moved across the country to be with him (the friend) met my future husband without having any clue, then when I broke up with my boyfriend I moved again. Years went by, and I moved back to the east coast just for fun, happened to move into the town where my now husband lives (woah it's hard to tell this story without using names) and anyway, we got reacquainted!
Due with rainbow rainbow rainbow baby on 9/29/17
It's been a long road- Let's just say that!

Hey ladies. @sjohns08 thanks for starting this checkin! A little about me, H and I have been ttc for almost 3 years (3 in April) and working with a RE for 2 of those years. We've done 2 rounds of IVF, the second one giving us 3 beautiful embryos. Since I had never been pregnant before, we felt confident that making embryos was our problem so we only transferred 1 and it stuck. Unfortunately, at almost 8 weeks during my first ultrasound we found that the gestational sac was empty, it was likely a blighted ovum that my body never realized.

    1) How far along are you? 2 seconds pregnant - 3 weeks, 5 days

    2) How are you feeling physically and emotionally? I was recently diagnosed with hormonal IBS, so now that I have some Bentyl to make my intestines chill the f out, I'm feeling MUCH better. Emotionally, I'm still pretty excited as opposed to scared. I know as I get closer to ultrasound day that will change.

    3) When is your next appointment? Monday 2/6 for my first round of betas

    4) Rants/Raves/Questions  Nothing really right now. Just playing the waiting game. I have 1 more shitty FRER that I'm saving for this weekend so I can have a better expectation for beta results.

    5) GTKY: how did you and your SO/DH meet? H and I met through a mutual friend, we both enjoyed playing video games so we knew each other long before we ever met. Technically, we met at said mutual friends wedding.

  • Thank you for starting this check in. I definitely need it!

I have a 20 month old DS and found out we were pregnant again in August 2016. Our worst nightmare took place in September when we went for our 12 week check up and they were not able to find a heartbeat. After an US and bloodwork it was confirmed that we had a MMC. I didn't officially miscarry until Oct. 30/16. It has been the worst 4 months of my life.

    1) How far along are you? 5w3d

    2) How are you feeling physically and emotionally? Physically I'm feeling sick. But I told myself I will gladly puke 4x a day if it means a healthy baby! I have been having horrible PGAL brain. But my OB just gave me my HCG results which are rising beautifully! So that has helped.

    3) When is your next appointment? Normally we wouldn't have an appointment until 12 weeks. But my OB offered one at 7 weeks because of my previous loss. So we have a check up on Feb. 15!!!

    4) Rants/Raves/Questions: PGAL brain seriously is awful! I am still very emotional and my DH doesn't understand it. He's an optimist. Which is great. But it's making it hard for him to see why I'm so nervous.

    5) GTKY: how did you and your SO/DH meet? We worked in a retirement home together in the dining room. Funny story is that we hated each other for the first year we knew each other.
  • You all are my people.  The short of it: we got pregnant our first try last year in Jan 2016. I was spotting throughout, measuring behind each check-in, and despite getting to see the heartbeat, growth never progressed past 6w1d. I had a natural MC at 10 weeks in Feb 2016.  Following that, my cycles were all out of whack and I was not ovulating.  Eventually I had BW following a solid month of bleeding and my TSH levels were off so they put me on Levo.  I had a CP in Oct 2016 and was referred to the RE. I had another CP in Dec 2016, met with the RE, went through the battery of tests, and was set to meet with him on 2/1 to discuss the path forward.  However, we got another BFP on 1/23!  We still kept the 2/1 appointment and at it, he basically confirmed my suspected-PCOS diagnosis but said everything else came back normal.  It's been a long, long year.

    1) How far along are you? 4w6d

    2) How are you feeling physically and emotionally?  Physically, ridiculously tired.  I am battling a cold with this pregnancy fatigue and I could sleep at a moment's notice.  I'm also not hungry at all and making myself eat.  Emotionally, I'm okay in this moment.  I'm on progesterone supplementation, which messes with me a lot because of the discharge.  I have good moments and really bad ones, but today, I am pregnant.

    3) When is your next appointment?  Ultrasound on 2/17.  That's the date my MC started last year so it's either going to help me get over my fear of the day or it'll be a spectacularly shitty day forever.

    4) Rants/Raves/Questions  Too tired to rant or rave, ha.

    5) GTKY: how did you and your SO/DH meet?  H and I met through his mother, technically.  MIL and I worked at the same place when I was in HS - an ob/gyn's office, actually.  She always insisted we should meet, and we did awkwardly when I was a sophomore.  We started dating on our own accord when I was a senior.

    Me: 35     DH: 37
    BFP: 1.6.16 | MC: 2.17.16
    BFP: 10.3.16 | CP: 10.11.16

  • Also, can we consider adding PAIF ladies to this check-in as well? Being pregnant after infertility and after loss are so damn scary.

  • So here is my story.... My first pregnancy was a surprise. My now husband and I had only been dating for a few months (meet online, lame I know) and it was a complete shock but we were already so in love with each other and decided this must be God's plan. The first trimester went by without a hitch other then horrible MS. We found out we were having a boy at my 16 week ultrasound and we were both over the moon. I felt my boy kicking which was the MOST amazing feeling. When I was 21 weeks my  water broke in the middle of the night. I had a complete rupture and all fluid was lost. Our poor boy didn't have the best odds but we fought for him regardless. I was placed on bed rest and just told to pray. After two weeks of this we were told that the umbilical cord prolapsed and it didn't look good. My precious baby's heart stopped and i delivered the most beautiful angel. It was the worst thing I have ever had to go through and still hurts everyday. Since then we got married and he is my rock and most favorite person on this planet. We started TTC after our wedding and had three MC one being a blighted ovum all in the past year. I am terrified for this pregnancy but things feel different this time. I know all about PGAL brain and it's rough. Staying cautiously optimistic. My milestones right now are hearing a heartbeat, hopefully in less than two weeks, and then making it to week 24 (viability). I wouldn't wish loss on anyone but it's nice to know I'm not alone. Here's to a happy and healthy loooong nine months to you all.
  • 1) How far along are you? 3 weeks 6 days
    2) How are you feeling physically and emotionally? Physically, just a little weak and hungry. Emotionally, really positive! It took us a year to get pregnant after loss with no explainable reason, so this feels so amazing right now. I know it'll get hairy af soon enough, so I'm just trying to bask in our joy atm. I'm saving my usual deep anxiety for later, I guess.
    3) When is your next appointment? Tuesday! See my obgyn for blood work and my family doctor who also specializes in pregnancy.
    4) Rants/Raves/Questions: None today
    5) GTKY: how did you and your SO/DH meet? We met through OKCupid, actually. We were both new to Montreal and did not speak the language. DH was into trying new things and overcame his intense shyness to do a little online dating. My best friend had just passed away and I was dating A LOT out of grief and mania. We clicked and were engaged a few months later!

  • 1) How far along are you? 4 weeks 6 days.
    2) How are you feeling physically and emotionally? Exhausted, occasionally nauseous. Emotionally, I'm pretty hopeful. I'm feeling more pregnancy symptoms this round, which may or may not be due to the progesterone suppositories. My levels started in the normal range unlike the last one, and I haven't spotted or bled at all with this one, which I did quite a bit with the first one I miscarried. I'm super thankful that I was starting to see an RE when I got my BFP, so they are super proactive and easy to contact.
    3) When is your next appointment? Beta hCG blood draw #3 on Monday. Ultrasound sometime in the next few weeks.
    4) Rants/Raves/Questions: Rant...omigod my digestive system. It can't decide what it wants to do anymore.
    5) GTKY: how did you and your SO/DH meet? Online dating site...but I used to work with his ex-wife. Small world.

  • 1) How far along are you?  A little unsure becsuse LMP puts me at 5+5 but with ovulation,  I think I'm closer to 5 weeks.

    2) How are you feeling physically and emotionally? Physically ill. Nausea,  heartburn,  sciatic pain, sore breasts. Emotionally,  I'm doing ok and I think that's just because I have so much to distract me with not feeling so hot and having 2 other small kids.

    3) When is your next appt? Beta draw on Monday. It's #2 so it should give me a good idea of how things are going so far. Will have an ultrasound at 7-8 weeks but it's not booked yet. Won't see my Dr again until Mar 3.

    4) Rants/raves/?s. DH has a fractured knee cap and has been utterly useless with the house and the kids. Which means everything is falling to me. Feeling pretty overwhelmed.

    5) DH and I initially met in high school. I thought he was an ass and he doesn't remember me. We re-met almost exactly 10 years later on my favourite beach in a different province than we originally met. It turns out we had a ton of mutual friends and a crazy amount of random connections in our lives. It's pretty neat,  actually.
  • Oh thank God this board is here. We started trying in November 2014. BFP #1 was in June 2015, and I had a MC at 6 weeks. BFP #2 was in November 2015.  It was a dream pregnancy, so good and easy. But when I was 24 weeks pregnant, our son was diagnosed with a very, very rare and serious heart condition.  I moved to Boston when I was 37 weeks pregnant so we could be near the best pediatric cardiology surgeons in the world. Anything for our little guy! After a traumatic labor, a placental abruption, and an emergency C-section, he arrived pink and perfect. He had open heart surgery when he was five days old, and came out of it like a champ. But when it was time to extubate him, everything went downhill. He could not breathe on his own. It turned out he had a bigger genetic syndrome that caused the heart condition and a lot of other really bad things. He died when he was three weeks old. I'm still not over it; I never will be. But I loved being a mother, and I can't wait to meet our future children.

    1. We  just found out today! Four weeks along.
    2.  I feel fantastic. Overjoyed to be pregnant again, and no bad side effects yet. Last time, it took a couple weeks for the nausea and fatigue to kick in.
    3.  I am still waiting for the doctors office to call me back and confirm an appointment date.
    4.  I don't know how I'm going to keep the news in until the end of the first trimester.  I want to tell the whole world!
    5. We met on the balcony of a music venue, overlooking downtown Nashville. I could smell his vanilla flavored cigarettes, and I went hunting for the person who had them. He was smitten, but it took him 3 weeks to call and ask me out.
  • we have a daughter who will be 2 in April.  We experienced a MC in Nov. 2016.  by calculations I should have been 8 week however there was an empty sac.  For that pregnancy I did not get a positive till I was about 5 weeks 2 days.  I kinda had a feeling something was wrong because with my daughter I got a positive 4 days before missed period.  This morning when I woke up I had a feeling so I took a test knowing my period should be here on Wednesday.  To my surprise 2 lines...I thought I was seeing things so I then took a digital and it said yes.  Super excited but extremely nervous

    1) How far along are you?
      - 3 weeks, 6 days

    2) How are you feeling physically and emotionally? I feel great physically.  Emotionally I just found out this morning so I'm just nervous and hoping this is a healthy pregnancy.

    3) When is your next appointment? will be calling the doctor tomorrow for betas

    4) Rants/Raves/Questions

    5) GTKY: how did you and your SO/DH meet? I was working at a daycare his uncle owned
  • I am having a rough day today. Nausea wasn't as bad as yesterday and I can't help but think the worst. My first sonogram isn't until the 17th which feels like a lifetime away. I googled a little too much which was a bad idea. How are you ladies keeping your positive thought?

  • I had a MMC found at 11.5 weeks in October. The heart stopped beating between 7.5 - 8.5 weeks, and I ended up choosing a D&C since I had no miscarriage symptoms after several weeks. After a CP last month, we found out we were expecting again.

    1) How far along are you?
    6 weeks 2 days
    2) How are you feeling physically and emotionally? Physically, I feel ok. I've been really tired the past couple days. Emotionally, it depends on the day. Some days, I feel somewhat positive. Others, I overthink every pain, twinge or lack of symptoms. I'm not really having much morning sickness, which scares me.
    3) When is your next appointment? 2/21 - 8 week ultrasound
    4) Rants/Raves/Questions The past week, I wonder how I'm going to get through the workday. I'm so tired and unable to focus, which is very much unlike me. :(
    5) GTKY: how did you and your SO/DH meet? We met at a Halloween party 9 years ago. :)
