Sciatica relief?

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not sure if sitting or standing is better at work. I know walking at work doesn't feel great, but I was thinking of taking a small walk tonight to see if it helps. I wore sneakers to work yesterday, and that didn't help, if anything it made it flare up. I was looking up some stretches, but am wondering if anyone has anything that has worked really well for them.

Re: Sciatica relief?

  • My sciatic nerve pain is only on my left side.  I found sleeping on my right helps.

Also the stretch where you sit down and put your ankle on your opposite knee and lean forward with a straight back.  That always feels good.

I started seeing a chiropractor last week too.

  • I typically recommend these stretches to my massage clients that suffer with any lower back or sciatic pain... obviously since we all have bumps now you may not be able to do all of them but whatever ones you can should help a bit!

Thanks, mine is left side too and I've been trying to stay on left side, but usually switch to right later in night.

  • Check out if you have any prenatal yoga classes in your area. It does wonders for back and hip pain!

  • Your OB can prescribe physical therapy. Last pregnancy, I'd go to PT weekly and they'd give me a mini massage and teach me a bunch of stretches. Covered by insurance.

Haha yeah some do... I agree with PP on the prenatal yoga as well... I have a few dvds but haven't pulled them out yet though to see the alternative stretches for the bump

  • Chiro!!!

Mine was so bad I couldn't walk, I couldn't lay down, I could barely move without crying. I saw my Chiro 3 times the first week, 2 times the next and it was gone. Get yourself aligned and everything fixed up, and then move to prenatal yoga and a maintenance approach.
  • Thanks guys.  Today I felt pretty good. Stretching helped last night.

  • Thanks so much for this thread!  I had to leave work early today bc it hurt to walk, sit and stand.  At home sitting on a heating pad for the moment. It feels great while on the heating pad.  Might have to check out a chiropractor. There aren't any prenatal yoga classes in my area that I've found yet..... I live in a pretty rural area.

I hope you find some relief soon!

  • @jennas312  thank you!!!  yesterday and today were good days!  My cousins wife showed me some stretches that totally helped and I definitely didn't push myself too hard the last 2 days.    I hope you're getting some relief too bc I literally feel your pain!
