Cat being weird.

I'm a FTM, 6+5 today. Our cat has suddenly been acting very strangely. She is fine with me all the time, and fine with my husband when I'm not around, but when I am around him, she gets aggressive towards him. She howls and hisses and sometimes growls. Is she being protective? She is usually HIS cat, which makes it even weirder. I've checked her over, isolated her to make sure she is eating, drinking, peeing and pooping (she is), so I don't think it's physical. She is a very expressive and talkative cat usually, but not in this way. Has anyone else had this problem? Will it go away once she gets used to whatever new smells she detects?

Re: Cat being weird.

  • My dog did the same thing. They can just sense it! The best thing we did to help him cope was to bring in baby items a little at a time. He was still overly protective of me but it helped him adjust when the baby came home so it wasn't ALL new and a lot of adjusting. From what I've read, totally normal!

  • My cat was sort of like that - he actually let me know I was prego with all 3 kids before I took a test. He's a 30 lb cat so he never lays on laps - each time he ended up laying either across my body or totally on my lap. He also did not like when my hubby gave me affection in the beginning. It tapered off. We have 2 cats and a dog so once each baby was born, we'd bring a blankie or little hand towel and have the baby lay next to it or wrapped around the baby to get its scent. The night or day before we brought our kids home, my hubby would take the blankie/towel home and put it in front of each animal, telling them it was so and so and praising the animal for being good. Once baby was home, each animal sniffed it and probably recognized the smell so none of them had anything against the baby.
  • @tiki8286 That is such a great idea. I'm a bit nervous because we have a 100lb bull mastiff and I'm scared that he won't react well to baby. He has never been aggressive toward humans and is a huge cuddle bug. However, if a chicken, possum, squirrel, etc were to get into our backyard it would be chased away, or dead if caught by him. He is amazing with my 8 year old and is so loving and sweet. I'm just anxious about the situation.
  • I don't have cats, but one of my pups will not leave me alone!

  • My sisters cat is the opposite. She won't leave me alone whenever I go over. And she's the most evil cat ever, hates everyone but my sister and her husband. She's always tolerated me but now she's obsessed with me
  • My cat has actually turned into the biggest jerk. She wakes me up all night long if I don't kick her out. Downstairs she is constantly doing what she can to annoy me.
  • I think animals sense something is different or there will be a change. We have a dog and for our first anytime I bought or reviewed anything for the baby I would let her sniff and get to used it.
