Body Pillows?

Hi ladies! Let's talk body pillows. For those of you 2nd (3rd, 4th, etc) moms - did you use one for your other pregnancies and how soon will you use one now?

What pillow brand do you have and what do you like/love about?

For those planning on using one, do you know which one you'll get?

This will be my 3rd baby and with the first two, I only bought a regular body pillow - you know, the long, rectangular one you can get at like Target or Walmart for cheap. It helped around 7 months prego but I remember fighting with it more than not.

This time, I'm giving in!! I have back problems (Scoliosis) and I'm already waking up with a sore back from tossing and turning. I'm wondering how early I'd benefit from a legit pregnancy body pillow :-) I'm 7w5d! Thanks in advance!!

Re: Body Pillows?

  • Snoogle FTW! I recommend the Jersey cover. If you get it from Bed, Bath and Beyond they will exchange it if you destroy it before the end of pregnancy.
  • Snoogle FO LYFE!!

The covers are a jerk to get on and off  but its small price to pay  for the ridiculous amount of love it gives you back.

  • I couldn't sleep so I had to bring it back out. I just got a basic body pillow from Target and works great for me. It worked for me last time and working so far this time.

  • I, too, used a regular body pillow last time. I already started using mine this time because I'm suffering from lower back pain. I think I am going to treat myself this time around to a snoogle, though. I keep fussing around with the regular body pillow and it's getting annoying.

  • No special pillows here. DH offered to buy one but I couldn't justify the expense when I could just build a giant pillow wall around myself. So that's what I did. Lots and lots of different sized and shaped pillows. Also, my giant dog likes to spoon, so he sort of served as a living body pillow.

Can we just talk for a moment about how much it sucks balls to have to sleep on the same side for so long? After I gave birth, my only questions were 1) can I have sushi for dinner and 2) can I sleep on my stomach please.

"I'm having fruit salad for dinner. Well, it's mostly just grapes, actually. Ok all grapes. Fermented grapes. Fine, I'm having wine for dinner."
  • I love my snoogle! I'm 9 weeks tomorrow and already asked DH to go dig it out of the crawl space soon for extra back support. I've used it through my other two pregnancies and have no complaints about it.

  • I am so glad you started this thread! My back and legs hurt so bad at night and I've been considering getting a body pillow.

On the Snoogle - I'm looking on Amazon and each color is a different price. I can't find any difference in the pillows. Are there different types of Snoogles and I'm just missing it?
  • I use a basic body pillow from target every night anyway, because I need the support between my legs otherwise I get back and hip pain. I'll probably upgrade to the snoogle around second tri because it looks amazing, and if I have an excuse for more comfort, why not? (I've also talked DH into upgrading to a tempurpedic mattress pad, and tempurpedic pillows! Comfort, here I come!)

  • I hated the Snoogle!!! It took up too much damn space in my bed and I'd get all tangled in it lol.

$10 Target body pillow for the win! I used that along my front and I got a wedge pillow that I used on my back side (Babies R Us). When my belly got huge, the wedge was great under my tummy and I just used a bed pillow onling my back.

I have the gray which comes in a jersey knit. It is very soft cotton compared to the other covers.

    *eta- I havethe c shaped
  • @BostonBaby1 I see all of the different shapes and options now. I have no idea which one to get now!

  • I'm a STM and I had the Boppy body pillow with my first pregnancy.  I sold it about 2 weeks after I bought it.  Regular pillows that I could position to my liking worked better for me.  I should note, I wasn't very achy and sore with my first pregnancy.

My advice, wait to buy one until you think you need one.
  • Thanks ladies!!! Love hearing all the good bad and indifferent info!
  • Third baby here, I just use a regular. It's pillow and maybe one of our king size pillows that the sham is on. It's worked well enough for me not to shell out the $$$$ for a fancy one. I also see a chiropractor regularly in third tri and that is 100% worth it in the aches and pains department.

I like the C shape (it might also look like a J). IMO, the U shape is too big and you'll rue the day you bought it when you get woken up middle of the night by a 3rd trimester bladder kick.

Which sidetracks me to mentioning that a waterproof mattress pad was a great investment. I didn't need it but came darn close to it.

I've seen a chiropractor since I was 14 (I have scoliosis). With my 1st kid, I saw the Chiro weekly until I was 37 weeks when I went to get adjusted and when he pushed down, swoosh went my water! Totally broke my water right on the table

Nice! My delivery went soooo much faster with my baby I saw a chiro with (the actual pushing part). I think being properly aligned definitely helped with that.

  • Grey c-shaped jersey snoogle is great!  I've thought about already using it for the back support.  Anyone else's shoulders aching from side-sleeping?

  • Is there any way to configure these snoogles to sleep on your stomach?  I think I made it to 6 months sleeping on my stomach for my last two pregnancies but I don't know if I can make it that far again...
