  • How far along are you? 14w6d

    How big is baby?
    A peach

    Appointments this week?
None - for the first time in quite a long time. It feels weird to just be able to 'trust' everything is okay.

    How are you feeling emotionally/physically?
Pretty good on both fronts to be honest. I'm STILL exhausted and fall asleep in the 8 o'clock hour, my super sensitive nose seems to be back but, other than that, feeling good.

What's the next milestone you're looking forward to?
Making it 4 weeks without going insane to my next appointment on 2/23.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
When is the appropriate time to register and have showers? I'm due 7/25 and want to make sure to leave time to nest and stuff. I'm also a big check list person so doing the registry would be a big one to check off!

GTKY: What's something random about yourself you haven't shared yet?
I'm an only child. I grew up with a TON of cousins living near me though so I never felt like one. I'm a bit nervous about our LO being an only child. I guess I turned out okay though!!

  • @byrneme  I for one completed my registries by 20 weeks. My baby showers are scheduled pretty late and it's freaking me out. But I'm not the one throwing them! Hahaha. So I'm afraid I won't have enough time to nest. I guess I will after the first one on 2/19, but I have two others (work and family) on 3/4 and 3/14! And I'm due mid-April. It just seems so late. So maybe see about late second trimester or early third? Some women like to wait though until they look big and have a nice bump. And I'm possibly just a planner and a control freak to be so anxious about having it done earlier. Sorry, I guess that didn't really help!  :D

    How far along are you?
    29 weeks

    How big is baby?
Acorn squash or gallon of milk

    Appointments this week?
Hoping not to hear about my glucose test from last week. No news is good news and means I passed. But I am on 2-week appointments now so my next one is next week!

    How are you feeling emotionally/physically?
See the weekend recap for that part. Haha. But also, heartburn, fatigue, difficulty breathing. Feeling really unprepared.

What's the next milestone you're looking forward to?
Baby showers and having the nursery done.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
I'd better not. I've ranted enough today. Lol.

GTKY: What's something random about yourself you haven't shared yet?
My dad did stage magic as a side job and hobby when I was a kid. I was his assistant for years. It was fun, and we had doves we trained for certain illusions.

  • @hgrich a) that is awesome about your 'talent' - how fun!! And your answer is certainly helpful. I know I'll have a family shower and a friend shower where I grew up, which is 5 hours from where I live, so I want to nail those down. I'm trying to figure out if it's best to do them in one weekend, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, vs. going back twice. Then I'll have a shower here too. Throw in some already-planned events and I was starting to panic looking at the calendar - I just wasn't sure if late in the 2nd tri was too early!!

    How big is baby? Asparagus

Appointments this week? Nope but I have two next week. Monday is regular OBGYN and Tuesday growth scan with the MFM. Of course nervous about the growth scan.

How are you feeling emotionally/physically? I've been very emotional, crying over the littlest things. I wasn't like that with my first, so it goes into the "every pregnancy is different" bucket. Physically, really good all things considered. I had a surge of energy over the weekend, but today I'm super tired. I've been sleeping pretty well too!! Which I'm enjoying and taking advantage of as much as I can.

What's the next milestone you're looking forward to? Well, I think at this point I'm done with baby milestones. I do have a lot of event stuff coming up and I'm using those as countdown marker/mile stones I guess. Next on the list is my daughters 3rd birthday party on the 18th.

Rants/Raves/Questions: This baby won't have his own nursery like we did with my daughter. I have a side car/bassinet that's in our room, he'll stay in that for 9 months of so. After that he does have a small area in my daughters room with a mini crib. All that being said, I painted the wall his crib is next to and put up some wall decals. It's of our solar system (theme picked by his big sister since it's her room) and it came out awesome. I'll post a picture later.

GTKY: What's something random about yourself you haven't shared yet? This is a really hard one! Am I this boring!?!  Before I became a SAHM, and before my career in IT I was a licensed "nail specialist", and did manicures/pedicures/artificial nails :)

  • @byrneme one thing to consider then is travel. My doctor told me to stay close by six weeks from due date. Plus traveling in the second trimester was bad enough for me, I don't look forward to traveling 3-4 hours seven weeks from my due date for my shower in March. So uncomfortable. But some women have little problem with it. Depends how you feel. It might be worth it to do it in one weekend!
  • @byrneme I think you can start making your registries whenever you want! I know with my first I made one right away but didn't share it with anyone til the end of my second trimester. I had my shower 6 weeks before my due date, but it was local. I'm not having a shower this time, because 1. it's my second and we already have most things and 2. I seriously have no friends anymore now that I'm not working so there's no one to invite, lol.
  • Here's a picture of the baby's "wall".
  • @Bok Bagok I love it! I've also thought about a mini crib if we have our second soon after the first. Looks cute, and I love the solar system!
  • @Bok Bagok  - it looks adorable!! And thank you to you and @HGRich on the registry/shower advice :)

  • How far along are you? 33w3d - so many 3's!

    How big is baby?
    Big enough.

    Appointments this week?
Growth scan on Thursday. Hopefully she caught up in size since the last US a couple weeks ago!

    How are you feeling emotionally/physically?
Exhausted - both emotionally and physically. Will I ever sleep again?

What's the next milestone you're looking forward to?
Full term just 3 weeks and some change away!

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
I hadn't intended on doing a registry because I wasn't going to have a shower (all my family is out of state), but my MIL insisted because she wanted something to send to family so everyone would know what we want/need. We are pretty much minimalists, so even as first time parents we only put things we really needed on the registry. Then... as a gift, MIL gave us a bunch of stuffed animals and I was super frustrated. Here she made me make a registry and then she bought a bunch of stuff NOT on it. *UGH. Ultimately I am grateful for any gift that shows love towards this LO, but I did find it a little frustrating.

GTKY: What's something random about yourself you haven't shared yet?
I once canoed the length of the Rio Grande between Texas and Mexico in the summer between high school and college just to say I did it. I camped on the side of the river. I was just thinking about that with all this talk of a wall *sigh

@byrneme I'm happy you are at the point where you are trusting that all is OK - I know that's often not easy for us PGAL ladies, but when you are able to achieve it, it is such a relief! I also grew up with extended family (16 people in one house) and LOVED it!

@HGRich Hoping for no news for you, haha! Also, being a child magician assistant for your magical dad sounds like the coolest thing for a child to do ever.

@Bok Bagok I totally get the "done with milestones" business. Right now, I just want to meet my LO - but not until she is at least full term. Also, that baby's wall is gorgeous!!! Way to go, momma!
  • @justanotherusername16 - of course MIL did something to fustrate you,  it's part of her duties as a MIL ;)

good luck with the growthscan. I'm anxiously awaiting mine next week.
  • Well, didn't get a call today about my glucose test so I'm thinking I passed! Huge relief.

In other news, DH finally got tested today to see what's caused his fever and it turns out he has mono. So, not good news, but good to finally know what the heck is going on. But it also means at least another ten days of no kisses. He's been sleeping on the couch, too, and will probably continue to for my sake. Which is sweet of him but I feel so bad and I really miss him. Ugh. But having a timeline for when he won't likely be contagious anymore and maybe well enough to start work on the nursery is at least a comfort. Just gotta take it one day at a time.
  • @Bok Bagok that nursery wall is awesome!  I just started looking at fabrics this weekend for my mom to make us some curtains for ours.  We aren't finding out the sex so I (think) I'm going with light grey walls and then yellow and aqua accents.  Making those decisions are hard!

@byrneme  I'm having some of the same concerns about the shower. I'm due 7/24 and we were thinking early June for the shower.  The first weekend is the only one that works for both families (both families are very close geographically and my MIL would never be organized enough to plan one on her own), but that is very close to when I lost my first pregnancy last year, so I'm not sure how I feel about that. May isn't great either, so we'd have to push to early May, and that seems really early.  Not sure what to do!  And then today I just found out my husband's work wants to throw us a shower (which is really sweet, he works for a teachers' union and all the women there adore him...seriously, when we got married one of the retirees sent me a card about how lucky i was to be marrying him), but it's just another date to work out!

@byrneme I also feel you about the only child concerns.  Neither hubby or I are only child (he's one of 4, I'm one of 2) but we decided before TTC that this would be our only child.  We're also both a little anti-social, so we're going to have to do some work to socialize this kid!

How far along are you? 15w even

    How big is baby?
    An orange

    Appointments this week?
None planned, but I had an unplanned appt last week so I'm not counting anything out!

    How are you feeling emotionally/physically?
Emotionally I'm doing pretty well, starting to get excited about getting the nursery and everything together.  Physically is still tough (see rant section)

What's the next milestone you're looking forward to?
We have an appt next week for 16 weeks.  At 12 weeks they could not find the heartbeat with the doppler so even though we've SEEN it 3 times now on ultrasound, we've yet to actually hear it, I'm looking forward to that.

    Rants/Raves/Questions:
I'm apologizing in advance for the TMI, but we're all pregnant ladies here.  I've been having major issues with bowel movements and bleeding.  About a month ago I was having some constipation and had some bleeding with hard large stools.  That went away eventually but it took awhile for the bleeding to stop because cuts reopen every time you go.  I thought it was over and then last week it came back with a vengence.  I went to the OB on Friday just so they could confirm it wasn't vaginal bleeding (it wasn't) and was diagnosed with a "large, deep" anal fissure.  They said it could take 6-8 weeks to fully heal! Ugh.  Has anyone had similar issues before?  Any home remedies that worked for you?  It's not painful except when I go to the bathroom.  They prescribed me hydrocortisone and then I read the documentation that came with it and it had strong warnings against use during pregnancy, so I put a call in to my doctor's office and am not planning on starting that until I get some clarification (I didn't see my normal provider b/c it was a last minute appt so I just want confirmation from her)

GTKY: What's something random about yourself you haven't shared yet?
Hmm, having a hard time with this one too.  How about this: since we're all pregnant, some of you may have seen recent articles talking about a scientific study that concluded having pets in the home during the baby's first year of life actually leads to less allergies later in life.  I'm a research scientist and that study was done by my department chair!
  • @cpr79 Yes!! I've had/have fissures! After the pregnancy with my daughter it was so bad and there was lots of blood when I would go. I finally got scared enough to go to the doctor, they ended up doing a Sigmoidoscopy which is like a mini colposcopy. Before the sigmoidoscopy they did have me try the usual stuff, eating fiber/drinking water/takin stool softeners to help let the fissures heal. That didn't work so they did the sigmoidoscopy and he closed the fissures  with a laser or something. That was like 2.5 years ago, and once in a while it will still happen but they seem to heal on their own now. It's such an embarrassing thing to go through, but seriously, I'm sure your butt is nicer to look at than most of their 80 plus year old patients, so really your are doing them a favor ;)
  • @Bok Bagok while I'm not excited to hear it's a problem you continued to have, it is always good just to hear you're not alone in something that yes is so embarrassing to experience! They said they could send me to a colorectal doc but that they 'usually won't touch pregnant women' for procedures so I guess I just have to wait it out. Just when I'm starting to feel a little less nauseous too. It's always something!
  • @cpr79 oh no! It is always the case that it's one thing after another and I'm so sorry you're dealing with that. It sounds awful. The worst I've had is some major hemorrhoids that caused a lot of bleeding about five years ago but never fissures. How frustrating. Hoping it heals quickly for you. :(
  • @cpr79 yea I'm not surprised they won't see you anyway. When I went I was breastfeeding still and they didn't even want to put me under for the procedure either, so I was awake to add to the embarrassment. Aye the things we go through! I think the best you can do is just try and soften the BMs as much as possible.
