Weekly randoms 1/29

sorry guys I slacked yesterday.  We were selling our fridge and it was a hassle trying to get it out of the house. We then decided to remove our stove and dishwasher as well because we are getting all new appliances today!

Re: Weekly randoms 1/29

  • Enjoy all the new @m6agua!

Today is two month shot day... I hate two month shots. But I do get to see how much LO weighs again!

  • good luck @SandNStarsNJ my little guy weirdly did awesome with his 2 month shots. He's seriously cried more at a diaper change than the shots, it was crazy

Tried baby B in the Merlin Magic Sleepsuit for his morning nap. Big ole fail LOL. He looked hilarious in it and I think it was way too big on it (I thought it might be). Going to put it away for a few more weeks and stick to the swaddling.

My next insurance annoyance is I have a wellness card for medical expenses from my insurance plan where you earn money taking a health assessment and doing wellness activities. I looked at my balance and they removed all of my money from my card in December because I "terminated from the plan". Well I didn't terminate coverage but when we added LO to the plan they accidentally deleted me from the plan, and while I was re-added a day or two later I guess it didn't get fixed on the wellness card. I call the wellness card customer service and they say they'll look into it but really insurance has to fix it; I call insurance and they say wellness card has to fix it. Booo. Most likely I will call back next Monday and no one has done a damn thing.
  • That's ridiculous @kvruns!

Did you guys know there's a 100th percentile? I didn't think there was actually a placement for it. But there is. At 9 weeks 3 days, LO is 26" and 17lbs 3 oz and apparently that makes him the 100th percentile. No wonder my back hurts!

And he's sort of handling the shots okay. He's nursing and occasionally whimpering but I haven't given Tylenol yet.

We had the same reaction! I think he's so used to being swaddled now that having the freedom with his arms was disorienting.

And wow @SandNStarsNJ! That's insane!! What a big healthy boy! It will be interesting to see if he stays at the top of the curve through childhood or if he is just a big baby.
  • @mrsmaryk2016 - I think it's just my breastmilk. DD gained weight really rapidly and was super round until we started introducing solids. Now she's at 28 lbs and has been for the past year. This guy is bigger but I doubt it will last.

Though it is kind of funny that there's a 10lb difference between my 2 yo and 2 month old.

H friend says his wife must make straight up butterfat milk cuz their baby is bigger than ours even though he is more than a month younger
  • Tomorrow is the last day of Whole30! Woohoo!

And I think I'm going the suppository route tomorrow with LO. Anyone have experience or suggestions?

  • @sandnstarsnj we did a glycerin suppository when DD turned 1 and we transitioned to cows milk. The hard part for us was getting it past the blockage, and it was not fun for her, but once we did it took maybe an hour and everything came out. I'm not sure on your situation but for us it was hard poo blockage because she was already eating solids. So may not be as intense for you since baby is still so young. Be prepared to touch poop ha ha.
  • @sandnstarsnj I had to do the glycerine suppository once over New Years. The store didn't have infant ones so I had to use adult ones and cut it small. I basically had to hold it there. Her poop was already crowning. It helped loosen it s little but then I had to dig it out and help her push it out. She was miserable and slept a lot after. It sucked.

  • So I had sudden pain tonight on my right side that kept getting worse. I ended up going to the ER. Now I am admitted to the hospital and I will be having surgery in the morning to remove my
gallbladder. This will be my first surgery ever (besides my wisdom teeth).

  • @m6agua - WOW. Hoping for a relatively painless experience and speedy recovery. Good luck!
(Oh, and the lovetit is a thank you, not that I love how much the suppository sucked.)

  • @m6agua yikes hope you feel better quickly
  • @m6agua good luck!

We have our two-month appointment today (she was 2 months 1/23), which means more shots  :( I cried last time, even though she only did for a split-second haha.
  • Suppository follow up... is it ok that the entirety of the liquid didn't empty out?

@hoosiermama - hope it's painless for both of you!

  • @m6agua wishing you a speedy recovery!! Your first surgery can be scary. Especially with a wee one at home to care for. Take care of yourself and keep us updated!
  • @m6agua good luck!
@sandnstarsnj yeah it's fine, there is a lot in those things and I'm sure there is enough in there to get things moving :)
  • I can't imagine having surgery with a 3 month old. I had my gallbladder out a few years ago and I'm so glad I did it; I felt so much better afterwards. Good luck and remember to stay ahead of the pain meds!
  • Anyone use Pampers Baby Dry? We use Pampers Swaddlers but a lady on my fb baby page offered to trade diapers for Similac checks and I've traded her a few times. I have 4 packs now of size 3 for later. I read Baby Dry isn't as soft but is good for overnights. Any experience?
  • @kvruns pampers baby dry is specifically an overnight diaper marketed for overnight use. I suppose you can use them during the day but it might be a waste since you change diapers more frequently during the day. I have them and use them just at night since they absorb so much fluid and you don't have to change baby unless they poop. I like to use one size bigger than baby wears during the day since it will hold more fluid that way.
  • Thanks @rspalding001 good to know on sizing . I didn't realize it was specifically for overnight though I saw it says 12 hours so that makes sense
  • @kvruns - I use size 3 Pampers Dry at night and don't have to change LO's diaper from 9pm-7am. Judge if you will, but they do a pretty awesome job. I use swaddles during the day (size 2).

  • DD wore pampers swaddlers for nb and size 1. We tried the pampers dry but she had a Alin reaction to them.  Now we use honest diapers. She can make it through the night on one of them should she be having a good sleep night
  • @jsmai do you find Hoenst Co runs small? I've heard they do and I have 2 boxes of size 2 and don't want to accidentally wait too long to use them and then he's too big
  • @MrsMaryK2016 That's brilliant! We have a couple [still] from when she came home from the hospital that we tie around wherever she's hanging out and she loooves to watch them as we blow on them and push them around. DH just tied one to her foot. :D
  • That is kinda hysterical @mrsmaryk2016!

In suppository updates... those things work! LO is all cleared out and MUCH happier.

4 days, but after the last time he went 10, the pediatrician said any time after 3 when he seems really uncomfortable. Glad we did because he's much calmer now.

@kvruns they do run a little small.  DD is at the bottom range for size 2 (12lbs) and they fit her nicely with the tabs all the way together. Technically she could still wear a size one but I felt they were becoming too snug. So I'd guess I'd go ahead and use them if your little one is anywhere near the high end.

Edit- DD has a short torso and longer legs if that makes a difference in fit
  • @jsmai we are hopefully a ways away from 2s. He could probably fit in newborns still but i ran out and 1s fit well. I have a ton of 1s so he needs to stay in them for a while!
  • Has anyone gone to the movies with LO like during the day? And is it awful that I'm thinking about it? If he fusses I just pop a boob in his mouth and he's all set... I think. And how many people really go to the movies during the day on a weekday?

I haven't even thought about it. Movies are so loud I'd be more afraid M would get scared than I would be of bothering others. But if you wanted to do it I think it depends on the movie and if it had been out for a while. An older movie is less likely to have a lot of audience members. I'd also do the first showing.

We just went on Tuesday! Our local theater does "Tightwad Tuesday" so we took our older daughter to Moana!
It was great and I nursed LO and then she slept the whole movie! I would definitely say that it's loud though! I meant to bring our infant headphones but forgot so I folded a pair of pants from my diaper bag and used her headband to secure them over her ears. I'm not sure if it did much to protect her ears, but she slept right through so it certainly helped!

I would never consider it personally. I hate it when people pretty little little kids especially if it isn't a kid movie. I know a baby might be more quiet but the last movie I saw pre baby someone brought their baby and when the baby would fuss she would take him out of the theatre but it was super annoying since she was right in front of us.

That's what I'm worried about. I really want to see a few movies and was thinking what are the odds that like noon on a Tuesday would be packed, but at the same time I remember people bringing infants to movies and randomly nursing and hearing the fuss and thinking how rude it was. I know some places actually do certain times for mothers and children; I wish I lived near one.

Lately whenever i do tummy time LO spits up a ton. Sometimes just drool but often real spit up, sometimes watery and sometimes really chunky. The last 2 days it's pretty much a guarantee he'll go all over on his belly. He's not in pain but it doesn't seem good to happen so much

ETA: I keep him upright after feeding and it's usually been at least an hour since eating until he's on his tummy
