Weird dates don't make sense

hi all! I had my first midwife appointment today and all looked well. I had an ultrasound and baby measured at 8w2d. I am very confused thought and maybe you can help?

A little back info: on Monday December 12 I took a test (first response) it was negative, so I took another test (first response) still very negative on Wednesday the 14th, then on Friday the 16th I took a test (Walmart 88 cent) that was Very dark positive as dark as the controls line.

So here in my confusion I got a positive test when I was supposedly 2w4d?! That seems scientifically impossible. Anyone have any experience with this. Maybe I'm over thinking and should just go with the flow. From breastfeeding my cycles had been wonky so i didn't know what to expect my last period was November 6th.

I hope this makes sense, and maybe someone has some insight. It's to late to call my midwife back tonight or I would. I was just talking about it with my sister and she pointed out that I got a very early positive pee stick. Maybe I'm over thinking it but I'm worried maybe baby isn't growing right or something. Also mobile so sorry if punctuation, spelling or grammar is bad.
I cannot wait to call my midwife in the AM....

Re: Weird dates don't make sense

  • I'll be 8 weeks tomorrow, and while I don't know when I ovulate, I do know we only managed to have sex on the 15th of December. I don't know how early a positive test would happen (I didn't rest until January), but if you ovulated earlier, that might of made for a big enough boost to hormones that you got an early positive. Or it just might of been a bad test, that was accurate. We haven't done the whole testing/temping stuff so this is just my best guess.

Honestly though, all dates aside, ultrasounds and Midwives tend to be pretty reliable so I wouldn't stress about it. Just give her a call tomorrow and I'm sure she will put your mind at ease

  • I'm going through something the exact same! It's kind of messing with me lol I would have been like 4 or 5 days pregnant when I got a positive by my ultrasound and I'm nursing too! At my u/s I thought I'd be about 7 and 5 I was 6 and 6

  • Different tests can show different results. I was taking cheapies from Amazon and nothing was showing. Then I took a first response and it showed positive almost immediately which a strong line. You could've ovulated at a different time. My due date is now a week earlier (after my ultrasound) than my original EDD based on my LMP.
  • Babies can measure a little bit ahead on ultrasounds as well. I once got a positive at 3 weeks. But really who cares if you have a healthy baby growing in there.
  • Thanks so much, your very right healthy baby is the most important thing and she didn't seem concerned at all and I told her the date I got my positive. I think I was just over thinking to much. Since I have no idea when I ovulated and obviously am not as far along as my LMP.
