GTKY: Crazy Roommates

Here is a fun GTKY. Tell us about your past roommates. Crazy? Great? I got this idea because my brother's college roommate just moved out and my brother is thrilled! The dude would wipe his butt after pooping and put it in the trash. Like WHY?! Haha. Anyone else have any crazy experiences?

LOL. Right, because we all know how lice prefer to live on our credit cards.
The funniest part of that was that it was one of those old school dishwashers where you had to plug a hose into the sink to get water to it. She tried to start it without plugging it in, then went nuts when it didn't start.

  • What? Why foil?
  • I lived in a triple my freshman year of college and one roommate was awesome (we still keep in touch) and the other was horrible!  She would just go out of her way to be mean, it was unreal.  We were in the same major (which was a small major at our university) so we were in the same group of classes and we would leave the dorm together and she would purposely walk infront of me rather than with me.  I honestly don't know what her deal was, but when she moved out half way through the year my other roommate and I were psyched! It was especially hard because it was freshman year and I didn't know why if I was doing something wrong.  The best advice I got was "these people were randomly selected to be your roommates, it's not a failure if you don't get along".

  • I did I have another roommate I lived off-campus with who did some crazy things too.  I really liked her, but this story is crazy.  Our toilet seat had come off it's hinges so it was removable from the rest of the toilet.  She wanted to wash it so she put in in the dishwasher.....and if that isn't bad enough, there were other dishes in there with it!  I was horrified.

  • Long story ahead:
I had a super crazy roommate senior year of college.  I lived with her and two of our other friends in an on campus apartment.  Everything started out fine, as we were all friends prior to living together, but then she and her boyfriend broke up and I think that was the beginning of the end.
She lived on the same side of the apartment as me, so I saw her more frequently.  But you never knew what kind of mood she was going to be in, some days she would be pleasant and happy, other days she would yell and snap at us for no reason.  She decided she wanted to lose some weight so she went kind of insane with diet and exercise.  She would come near the three of us when we were eating and would ask to smell our food (because she wasn't eating anything like it).  There was one day she sauteed onions on the stove for maybe 30 minutes? She also would leave her dishes in the common areas and not clean them.  After a certain point the three of us got frustrated with it and stopped cleaning up after her.  I swear there was a dirty bowl she left on the living room table that sat there for months! Until we moved out. She would also do bizarre things like decide to go work out (outside) at like 10:00pm at night.  My uncle died quickly from stomach cancer that year in about April, and it was slightly traumatic for me, because I was in St. Louis when he actually passed (I lived in Upstate, NY and went to school in CT) as i was traveling for the NCAA tournament with the basketball team (I was a cheerleader for the university) and obviously couldn't fly home for the funeral.  Close to the end of the semester she freaked out on all three of us for "not being good friends" and not supporting her through her break up.  We were though, we tried doing anything we could think of to help her, go out to the bars with her, stay in, cry with her, hate her ex, etc. She had a heart to heart with my other two roommates, but decided she didn't want to have one with me? My other roommates were talking about how rough of a time I was having, and she gave zero f*cks. As we got closer to graduation, she decided she wanted to move out early (she lived like 10 minutes from campus) and went through the things in the kitchen all by herself deciding which was hers.  She took a bunch of stuff that wasn't hers, and left some of her stuff that wasn't.
The day of graduation we all had family come up, and they met us at our apartment, so we had tons of people there, and as I was greeting my sister and mother at the door, she legit body checked my sister out of the way to get back in.  I could barely hold myself together. We walked to graduation and I confronted her and screamed at her in front of everyone that was there about how crazy she was and all the shitty stuff she did to me and my roommates.  She legit had nothing to say to me.  I haven't seen her since, and either have my roommates.
  • I had a crazy college roommate. She was on scholarship for basketball but actually hated playing. So she decided to try and break her own leg by dropping a big trunk on it. Totally nuts. She actually did fracture her leg. She ended up getting kicked off the team and left school so I got the dorm to myself for the rest of the year.
  • I lived with a woman in college who suffered from an impulse control disorder called trichotillomania, which involved her pulling out her hair when she was anxious....and then she would eat the hair. She would also leave clumps of it in the common areas (including the kitchen sink). I'm not completely heartless, I understand that it was a mental health issue, but she was also just unpleasant. She became obsessed with my then boyfriend and would actively try to break us up. I overheard her on the phone once, saying that she was going to cut my hair off in my sleep so he would no longer find me attractive. My room was the loft, and did not have a door.

She also had a disgusting dog who she refused to potty train. The dog would poop all over the house, and she'd blame my dog (who was very well behaved, and also was scared of her). She also always kept t-shirts on the poor dog, so the poop would often get stuck on/in the dog's shirt. Ugh.

    I moved out ASAP.

  • I had a roommate who didn't speak to me for over a month, and then accused me of abusing my dog by crate training her. And admitted that she'd been letting my dog out in the yard all day when I was at work. (The dog had weird allergies and heat sensitivity because of her allergy meds, and the vet told me by no means should I let the dog outside during the heat of the day. I was back and forth to the vet at least every other week spending a fortune trying to figure out a cure for her recurring horrible heat rash.)   And a million more things, but that was the most dramatic!

  • @absbubbs you win! That's by far the worst!  ;)
  • The first house I lived in after high school was huge so it was me plus six friends. Five of us had always been really close but a couple were sort of newish to our group. We decided to try to do a communal food thing, where everyone split all food costs. It worked for a while but one girl started buying ultra expensive health food products, and protein powders and stuff and would let everyone know that we all owed her $7 for this protein powder, or we'd see things like a litre of flax oil and $8 boxes of muesli on receipts she had deemed as communal. She didn't understand when we told her that we understood why she would want these things, the rest of us were living on way less money.
There also ended up being some hilarious arguments over who ate the most cheese.
The communal thing didn't last for very long.
  • My roommate freshman year and I just so didn't have compatible personalities. I was honestly a pretty decent partier and she was not into that at all - although she liked to pretend she was to others. However she always had a new boyfriend and often she invited them to spend the night in our dorm room on our futon in the middle of the week without asking me. I had a pretty demanding major and course schedule so it was really not pleasant to have a strange man in my room on random weeknights. Then the final straw was when a friend of mine came to visit (after I asked if he could stay, BTW) and we came home drunk from a party. The situation was poorly managed but when I left to go to the bathroom she called 911 and had my friend arrested for underage drinking. He spent nearly 24 hours in jail before we could find a way to drive to the jail and get him. Luckily after that she went home or to her BFs most weekends and I had the room to myself.

Things got more more and more passive aggressive as the year went on. I figured out she was reading my diary. So I started writing about how bad I felt that our relationship was so bad and how frustrating it was that she wouldn't do anything like taking out the trash etc. Things got better after that!
