Refusing lunch

my LO would eat anything over Christmas. In the last week or two she has started being very picky with what she will eat and is rejecting lunch completely. She just cries if I try to give her anything. She eats loads for breakfast everyday, and mostly eats lots for dinner. Could she be too full from breakfast, or teething? Anyone had this? All my friends' babies eat anything you put in front of them at any time so they aren't much help with advice!

Re: Refusing lunch

  • My lo starts this when he's at "wonder week".He gets super picky, usually eats breakfast and a little dinner but refuses lunch and snacks .could also be teething for sure though. My lo has also decided if its not something he can feed himself he's not eating it.
  • We've been struggling with that here too. I never had problems with my other 3 boys once they started eating our food, but Caleb is extremely picky. He'll eat something one day and then a few days later he wants nothing to do with it. Lunch is definitely the worst of the three meals. Same case here, eating really good for breakfast and supper but lunch not so much.

This last week or so he hasn't been eating as much as usual. He acts like he is hungry and wants to eat it, but ends up spitting it out and crying. So I figure he's either teething or he has a sore throat (lots of colds going through our house lately).

  • Reassuring to hear there are others going through this! Well she ate lunch today...because I reverted to a smooth chicken puree baby food pouch! She did this last time she teethed
  • My little guy has been very picky lately. He has been sick and teething so I chalked it up to a combo of all of it along with the leap wonder weeks describes. As with OP lunch is the least consumed meal of the day.
@taitai82 for sure if he can't feed himself he wants very very little to do with it.
  • Mine loves most of his food but has started to reject nursing time. :(
It's not actually a bad thing; I'm just worried about his fluid intake. He doesn't drink THAT much water during the day.

Despite his love for food, he has his little preferences. He'll pretty much always eat bananas and bread, but most other things get squished and thrown around to some extent. He also loves to put food in his mouth, chew it a little, spit it out and examine it, then put it back in again. I can always tell when he's full because he starts dropping it on the floor.

    Babies are gross.
  • Mine has started to nurse for only a couple minutes then bite, I can tell my supply is dwindling :( I've started giving him a bottle or sippy of whole milk and formula supplement and he will drink it all down. I guess
My supply just isn't enough. He was only having about 2 wet diapers in 24 hrs and waking up dry after 10 hrs of sleep with just nursing. That's why I started giving him a bottle but at least he's getting nutrition and hydration. He is now having 4+ wet diapers and a good wet diaper in the morning. Plus I am done with the pump when working in a couple more weeks anyways so introducing whole milk now works out anyways.
  • @jarob747 we have cut down to 2 feeds and am concerned about losing supply too.
  • We are also down to usually only 2 feeds a day . My supply too is slowing down. I just worry she's not drinking enough . Some days she eats great some days not so much . Some days great soaking diapers some days not so much . I'm really conciserjng just using my freezer stash and switching to whole milk the biting hurts so bad and my baby girl has been a biter lately
  • @smn14 & @mrsc12414 so If you're only nursing twice a day, is that all they are drinking? Or do they take water or milk in a bottle or sippy?  Oh the biting is terrible!!!
  • @jarob747 she has water at mealtimes and snack times and any other time I think she needs it.

She hasnt really bitten me yet (touch wood!)
  • @jarob747 I offer water in a cup but she never really drinks it much . Ughhh the struggle is real
  • What cups r you ladies using for your lo?I've tried many diff ones as well as bottles and my lo only wants a regular cup but will only take 2-3sips out of it .if like to find one he likes to drink out of so he gets more than just breast milk and small sips of water.I have the yippie Tommie cup that says its like drinking out a big cup..there's no spout on it but he's not to found of that one eighter ...
  • Sorry tippie Tommie cup, stupid autocorrect
  • I use the open top doidy cup.
  • LO uses a regular/classic sippy cup and a munchkin one. He also gets sips from my cups and water bottles.
  • I use the straw munchkin cups. No mess and she loves them. We also let her drink out of our regular cups for practice.
  • I use a Playtex sipster and a simple ninja turtle sippy (from the dollar store nonetheless) and he loves it.
  • Thank u ladies") I'll c if he likes any of those.he needs to get use to some kinda cup.he never took to a bottle eighter!
  • My DD never took a bottle either and we had the best luck with the the nuk learner cup at first. Once she could eat food directly from pouches, she figured out straw cups and can use either the munchkin one above (which has a valve so it took her a while learn she had to suck hard but is awesome!!) and the cheap take and toss ones (and she now goes after any glass with a straw if we aren't watching)
