  • Yay! Thanks for this @m6agua

We're big Packers fans here too. My grandfather's family is from Wisconsin and my grandfather was a scouter for the Packers way back in the day. I'm really hoping that beat Atlanta this afternoon - it's going to be close if last week is any indication of their performances.

Before re the game we're going to a party in a restaurant where the clientele is old school enough that DH thinks BF is a bad idea. We have no bottles. What's a mom to do? Excuse herself to the car? He thinks even my super covered up nursing that I do in public places would be offensive, but unless you're staring, how would you know?

  • @SandNStarsNJ by old school do you mean old? Because I am guessing most old people BF because that was the option. I remember my mom saying all of her brothers and sisters (12 of them) were cloth diapered except for the last one because there were no disposable diapers until then.

    I would just BF.

  • I've never BF in public and I'm not sure I could. I much prefer just to strip down at home vs trying to not let it all hang out.

I have no skin in the game for the playoffs though I'll watch bc I like football. I used to love college basketball the most but now I don't really care about it and I'm all about football.
  • Welp. I'm nursing in the car now. And it's old conservative men. Like the kind who still think you should dress up to go on an airplane.

  • @leighry BAHAhahahahaha!!!!! OMG that was the best. It's so sad the decline in literacy though :( either that or people really don't care to look at what they typed before they hit enter (which I am guilty of too) but seriously, you know some people really are this dumb.
  • I love random threads! I'm glad I caught this before it exploded so I might be able to keep up.

  • I've been having vivid dreams of dating other men lately, including a very ummm naughty dream with a former coworker who I've never found attractive (physically or really even personality wise).  wtf. I imagine it is because of my issues w/ my H so I guess my subconscious is going wild haha
  • @SandNStarsNJ, what did you end up doing? I was super modest until the day we were about to go into our local wholesale club and realized A needed to eat. I sent my husband in and couldn't figure out why so many people were staring and approaching the car. Then I realized we were next to the cart return.
I lost all modesty after that. I figured half the neighborhood saw my boobs that day, might as well let the other half have a look.

  • @rhodamorgenstern I BF in public when I need to without hesitation. It's DH who I usually check with for if he's comfortable with the situation. And, of course, he was not yesterday so I took LO to the car and fed him there. It was the only option as the bathrooms were gross. The women there thought it was silly but I like to respect DH's opinion when they're more his people. I mean, we're on our second child and I'm only just BF in front of my in laws (no one ever BF in their family so it's super foreign to them).

bummed about the Packers. That game was just plain depressing.

  • @SandNStarsNJ I am so bummed about the Packers loss. They did not play their best at all. Hopefully next year will be better.

  • I plan to fly to  visit my parents in FL in a few weeks. My options are to either gate check my stroller and car seat/base or to have my parents buy a convertible car seat (they will be getting one sometime anyway) and use that down there and just bring my stroller. Which would you do?

I'm afraid my little guy would be too tiny for my BOB stroller just strapped in.

What kind of car seat do you have? I will be flying with LO in September my plan is to travel with the infant car seat and the frame stroller (purchased for $99). I will probably have a plane seat for her (or the car seat) and then gate check the stroller. I plan to do a baseless install for the car when we get to our destination.

I have read that it's good to have multiple strollers. I have the Bob, a frame stroller, and a upgraded umbrella stroller.

  • @m6agua I have Britax there isn't a frame option that I was ever aware of bc that was my original plan when we thought about Graco. Frame would be better than big ole BOB if I had that option. We will do nice umbrella later for sure.

I don't plan to take car seat on plane bc I don't want to buy a ticket for him. I was considering baseless install in my parents car if I take my seat.

  • I would vote baseless install or have your patent purchase their car seat now. We have traveled with child and all the accessories and it gets mighty cumbersome through the airport. We've always opted to use carriers instead of strollers, but our kids prefer them so it's no big deal. We hike a lot and have the backpack and then usually stick a Bjorn or Boba in our carry on (we don't check bags). Then we gate check the backpack and car seat.

And perhaps unsolicited, but we traveled with our, at the time, 20 month old and opted to not purchase her a seat and it went smoothly. She cuddled up in my lap and in between us with the arm rest up and we were good to go. I say save the money while you can.

  • Ooo, baby carrier is a good idea. Have you checked pricing for the seat vs not getting the extra seat? I know I looked at both options for my trip and for a seat for a child under two wasn't that much more than opting to not have the seat. I guess my only concern is when checking the carseat how well do they take care of it.

I'm sure it depends on the airline/staff but ours were handled well and returned in same condition. And we honestly were treated better overall with a baby in tow - they had us board first despite our cheap seats, one of the flight attendants took our carry ons ahead of time and put them in the overhead, they made sure to pull out gate check items first and hand them to us, etc... I guess it's worth mentioning that we flew United.

And we are carrier people all the way. You have your hands, it's not bulky, stairs are never an issue, LO can see above everyone else's knees, and you can't walk away from anything because it's attached.

When we traveled with our first on a plane we always gate checked the car seat and stroller combo. As our kiddo got older we've checked her car seat. Although I'm afraid it won't make it one of these times. I always feel better gate checking because I know it will be there when we land. However, it's a lot already to lug around. When we rented a car we would just use the seatbelt strap option on the car seat. Good luck, it's stressful getting through security and to the gate with all your stuff. We've been there and will be there again soon with two kiddos for the first time. to tell the truth I'm not looking forward to it.

Yes! I would keep it as minimal as possible, but that's just me. Have your parents buy a car seat and pop the LO on your lap.

That's how I'm leaning tho I want a stroller in FL
  • Today I realized that I have no pix of baby just in a diaper or of his little feet/hands etc. our newborn pix had wraps so I feel like I missed out on it. And no foot prints/handprints although I think they did feet at least at the hospital. Bad mom already :)

I feel like a bad mom because we barely got any pics when she was born. H snapped one while they were working on her. I think it's because she was born at almost 10 pm and we were switching rooms at 1 AM

  • We're fulfilling the stereotype for second children: tons of pictures of our first and pretty much none of our second.

That's adorable! DH got Jimmy Fallon's book so I think I'm tapped out on book gifts... and speaking of gifts his birthday is next month and I've got nothing.

Also so I think I'm in a maternity leave slump. There's way too much couch, breastfeeding, binge watching going on but it's so cold out that other than shopping I don't have too many ideas (and I hate shopping). I've been thinking about taking LO to the gym daycare so I can workout but I A. Don't really trust them and B. Am pretty sure he will cry relentlessly, which means they'll come get me and I won't be able to workout anyway. Suggestions welcome!

  •  @SandNStarsNJ Are there any good museums, aquariums, science centers or the like near you? Or how about taking them to the library for book readings?

And for what it's worth, I mentioned joining the YMCA and leaving M in their daycare to his pediatrician. She recommended waiting until March since the flu is borderline epidemic levels. We have all these snowbirds bringing it with them from up north but if you're in an area where it's prevalent I'd probably wait anyway. I had the flu last year and I wouldn't wish it on anyone and definitely not on a two month old. I for sure get the temptation though because I desperately want to work out too and can't figure out how with M attached to me all the time.

This is so cute!!! I'm so doing this.
  • @mrsmaryk2016 Thanks for the heads up on the daycare advice. It is running rampant and it's actually a Y daycare he'd be going to. And we do live near all of those types of places and take DD to regularly, but it's an event. I need a couple cheap mom and LO only places. Or maybe I'm just making excuses.

  • @SandNStarsNJ I go no where too. I'd love to but it's an ordeal and I don't want to deal with messing up his routine so other than the occasional target trip or walk outside if warm enough we sit at home all day
  • @SandNStarsNJ I only have the one kid and it's an event to go to the grocery store so I can imagine two is twice as much work.

I don't mind it though. I just need motivation. I really don't like winter. My first was born in June; we spent maternity leave on the beach and it was awesome.

  • Yes to all of this! I'm going back to work in a week and a half but I'm sooooo grumpy because I stay at home all day. I cry because I'm going back to work. Then I cry because I can't talk anymore baby talk. It's been a rough week. Oof. I wish it was warm so we could at least go for a walk!

  • I'm annoyed this afternoon. Went to McD for a large Diet Coke and when Indeovr away and took a sip realized it was regular even though the Diet button on the lid was pressed. My whole reason for going there was to break a $20 to buy a Merlin sleepsuit from someone on my fb baby page. GO to pick up and I look at it in the car and she left out the wrong size for me. I am sure she can set out the right one another time but it's not a convenient location so I'm extra annoyed. Ugh.
  • I have zero patience today. Normally M's crying doesn't bother me but today it's annoying the shit out of me. I think the sleep deprivation is getting to me finally.

I mean really... Just go to sleep, baby! You don't need to scream about a nap!
  • At the 2 month appt B weighed a whopping 10 lbs (he's 9 weeks 2 days). Dr was a bit concerned and said to add an additional feeding and to not let him go more than 8 hours w/o eating at night. Right Now he eats at 6:30pm, goes to bed and will wake to eat usually between 3-4 am, sometimes earlier, once later but 3-4 is the sweet spot. I have trouble falling asleep after this feeding especially if it's the 330/4 range. I wonder if I should feed him at 630, put to bed, wake to Feed around 11ish and then hope he sleeps til 7ish in the morning. I'm afraid he won't handle this adjustment and I'll lose his long stretch if I wake him to feed after 4 hours of sleep but it would be a better schedule for me if it works.

I don't know if this is your first but I remember the first few days were really hard but once I started really actively working it was easier to adjust. Granted, at first all I could do was think about LO, talk about her, and had ABCs stuck in my head all the time. When we would get home I wouldn't let her out of my sight/grip until bedtime (I had to leave before she woke). It'll take time, but you can do this!

I don't go back until March and am already trying to talk myself into accepting what's going to happen. I'm also already thinking logistics as this one is a little less easy (still no bottles being taken here).

  • @kvruns I'm not an expert but I do know that sleeping through the night is an amazing feeling. Could you encourage an extra feeding during the day? Or push the 6:30 to something closer to 8?
