Sugar in urine

I'm currently 20w1 and a FTM and at every appointment so far they have noted sugar in my urine. My appointments are usually scheduled after breakfast or after lunch so I'm not too concerned. I have taken an early 1 hour and then 3 hour glucose test and passed.

Should I be concerned about the sugar in my urine? Anyone have a similar experience?

Re: Sugar in urine

  • I had sugar in my urine once when I was pregnant with DD. I had eaten two pieces of candy corn an hour before my appointment. It was crazy. The doctor came in and said my urine was "full of sugar" and chastised me. They checked my blood sugar on the spot and it was fine. I'm not really sure why it happens sometimes, but I'm thinking it may be your body's way of getting rid of excess sugar and could be a good thing? Obviously not a medical expert.
  • I haven't had sugar noted in my urine, but I did have one of my weekly prenatal samples with DS flagged for protein.  Luckily follow-up tests showed everything was fine and nothing that could have caused it (eg UTI).  I believe the sugar check is to look for possible GD, but sorry I don't have experience.  How far along are you?  If they're concerned or you have a repeat urine test that shows the sugar presence maybe you'll need to take the glucose test a bit early?
