I asked on the First Trimester board but maybe so others will know - did anyone add additional Omega to their vitamins? I have a prenatal with DHA/ADH but my sister and best friend are saying to add more. I forgot to ask my midwife this am about it.

@JWatt5 It depends on how much DHA is in your prenatal. A lot of the prenatals that say they include DHA only have a tiny bit. I have been taking an extra fish oil supplement because of this.

My prenatales also include DHA but I also take an additional supplement, since I don't eat fish very often. It's supposed to be especially helpful in the third trimester and during breastfeeding.
  • Options
@jwatt5 my prenatal has a small amount of DHA in it but I do take an additional fish oil supplement. My obgyn said it was more than fine and would support brain health for the baby and help with breastfeeding after the baby is born.

I did, but I lived in Norway at the time, they are crazy about their omega's!
Even not pregnant they insist you take those. So if one buys prenatal vitamins it comes with extra omega capsules.
Would I've been here in the Netherlands my whole pregnancy I wouldn't have taken it extra as it's not a common thing.
But now that I learnt the benefits I might with another pregnancy if that ever happens.

    2 capsules exist of:
Concentrated fish oil 1500 mg; omega-3 1020 mg (EPA 288 mg, DHA 582 mg and DPA 86 mg).

Anybody having a lot of Braxton hicks contractions? Mine happen mostly at night, but today I've experienced a few at work. Maybe one an hour. Normally I have one or two after standing on my feet and making dinner or (for some reason) when I stand up from sitting on our super cushy sofa. I don't know at what point I should call the Dr or if I should just carry on.

I had tons from August on @clt2pwm11. My due date was 11.nov
I got told not to worry, as I would know when real ones would start.
Many times they suggested me to slow down (I was moving from one country to another), but I had sooooo much to do.
As I didn't feel my little girl move I had CTG scan every other day (both unrelated) but they could check them at the same time.
It never was an issue, but I got told over and over in both countries to not worry at home. If something was worrying me I should call and get it checked out. All nurses (and I've seen tons) told me they are there to reassure us all is ok.
Most likely all is well for you too, but if you are not sure, call your dr and (s)he can tell you all is ok :)

@jwatt5 It also depends on what omega you are getting naturally in your diet. Do you eat fish or any other sources of omega often?

for those of you that had RLP, how bad was it. I woke up last night with pretty severe/sharp pain on my one side. it was right where I would expect to have RLP, but I've never had it that painful. It went away in a few minutes and hasn't returned this morning, so I'm not too worried. I also should note that I feel like by bump is bigger today!!

@MelD17011 There were definitely some days that were worse than others with RLP. There was one day that I was having sharp pains and my doc had me drink a ton of water and lay down on my left side for 20 minutes.  The pain didn't go away so they brought me in for a quick check. As long as it's not a lingering pain, you should be good.  It's never fun though!

@MelD17011 RLP can get pretty bad. I get it on and off for a day then the next day is when I notice my belly grew, just like you. So, I'm guessing baby went through a growth spurt or moved and caused your body to stretch a little more.

Random IF-brain-moment: I seem to be in the middle of a spate of pregnancies among my various circles of acquaintances--off the top of my head I'm one of 8. It's such a relief to be on this side of IF; if this were going on, say, this time last year (or the year before, or the year before, or the year before) I would have been crushed (though of course happy for everyone, etc etc). It's interesting to see to what extent the sadness associated with all of those years didn't just evaporate with this pregnancy; I still even feel a brief residual moment of panic when I hear about a new pregnancy. I'm just really actively thankful to be where I am now.
  • Options
@cato99 I feel the same way. Old habits die hard and I still find my heart sinking when I see or hear pregnancy announcements! It's crazy. And then I sometimes continue to feel sad that most (if not all) of these people got pregnant for free and we're $25k+ in.

But still, thank goodness we are on this side of IF!

@cato99 - Today would have been my IVF consult. I actually woke up thinking I still needed to go to it. I feel fortunate I have the story I do now but I still get a little curious of announcements wondering - are they worrying like I do? I wonder how many months they tried? Since we haven't "announced" other than at work, family and a few friends that knew we were trying with the help of a RE still ask and still I have to deal with the silly comments - "Just relax - there's nothing wrong with you", "Just go get drunk one night with DH and it'll happen", "Why are you spending so much time and money when there are kids you could adopt". It's not any easier now than it was before - if anything it's worse because I feel the need to stick up for those still going through IF listening to these things they shouldn't have to.

I've also had what I hope is RLP yesterday and today. It feels like bean is stabbing me with tiny knives in the lower abdomen. Short and sharp intermittant pain mostly when I'm standing or walking. I'll try drinking extra water and call my midwife if it's still bad tomorrow.

I don't mind the pain, pain I can handle, it's the worry it's something bad that gets to me!

Has anyone lost weight in their 1st trimester? I know it's not totally uncommon but I'm down almost 5lbs(I'm 12 weeks). Obviously I'm not trying to lose weight but I'm not trying to gain a ton either. I was slightly overweight prior to getting pregnant(thanks hormones and stress!). I know being slightly overweight my weight gain should be less than that of someone who has normal BMI. I don't have too much of an appetite but I'm forcing myself to eat nutrient dense foods and I eat small meals/snacks often.
  • Options
@ARB425 I did. I lost about 3 pounds that I didn't really have to lose, but as you said you're a little overweight to begin with, so baby is fine. Baby takes everything s/he needs, so you're the one who looses out, not them!

Does anyone else get pain at the top of their bump, right under their breasts (right where your bra meets your stomach)? It almost feels like the same pain as round ligament pain. I thought it was from my bra but it's been there for a few weeks and it gets worse at night when I am trying to sleep. I am guessing that it is growing pains but it hurts!

I've lost tons while being pregnant about 9 kilo's.
Around the time my little girl got born I was weighing only 1 kilo more prior pregnancy and when she was out I was weighing less.
I was very ill the first trimester and I don't gain back weight easy.
Pia, my little girl has been doing fine all the time. They only worried a bit in the beginning due to me being so ill, but once that was over no one worried. Baby takes what it needs, so it's mostly the mummy that suffers @arb425.
Try to eat what you can, take your prenatal vitamins and it should be ok!

@arb425 I have. I was down about 10 lbs from pre-pregnancy weight. I'm guessing it had to do with IVF stress and not really having much of an appetite. My doc doesn't seem too concerned and I've gained 1 lb exactly since my OB intake appointment (just had my heartbeat check today)! As long as you are getting your essential vitamins and nutrients I wouldn't worry too much.

I'm up about 11 lbs now at almost 21 weeks, and my doctor didn't say anything so I'm hoping it's appropriate weight gain! Looks like we're in the same boat. At my 17 week appointment I was only up 6 lbs, so I guess we're both in some serious growth mode now haha. At least that's what my appetite has been telling me!

I just need to complain for a minute. I've had a cold, and I've been trying to power through it, but today is downright awful. My head is all swimmy, and I just need to go to bed but I'm at work waiting on an important phone call that may or may not ever happen. I took some Tylenol Cold at 9 (it is 2:30 now) and I'm tempted to take some more, but I don't want to over-medicate if I can avoid it. Blurgh! I'm so miserable!

I had a scan today - crazy to see the LO moving so much - seeing it's back flex was amazing to me. But, the migraine issue has become a bigger issue and my RE said no more midwife as she didn't pick up on some red flags in my history (mini stroke due to taking Birth Control at 19) and current symptoms (and if I'm honest, I wasn't super happy after my first appt). So I'm off to a specialist next week, now to take a baby aspirin a day and based on next week's appt either go to my OB or be referred to a high risk ob. I feel like I'm in better hands now - actually way calmer than I was two days ago.

@clt2pwm11 - oh the colds are the worst. Hang in there, I found showers really helped. I sat in the bottom of the shower for an hour when I had my cold. I was happiest in there hehe.

@clt2pwm11 - I feel you. I have been fighting what I thought was a cold for the past 2 weeks but it turned out to be an upper respiratory infection. I started antibiotics today, but I haven't been sleeping well due to congestion and coughing. I am tempted to take tomorrow off work to catch up on sleep (three hours of sleep a night isn't cutting it).

@JWatt5 - I am glad that you are feeling like you are in better hands now. That is the most important thing.

To those with colds, I highly recommend trying a saline sinus rinse! I hope you all feel better soon!

@JWatt5 I'm so glad you are feeling better about your plan of care - I hope the migraine issue gets resolved and that you end up with a doctor who makes you feel more at ease!
