Summer Trips

So DH and I started discussing taking Audri on a road trip this summer for a vacation. We thought she might be old enough then to do something fun. We live outside of Chicago, so it's a good starting of point. Are we crazy to consider this? Would flying and renting a car be easier? Any suggestions on kid friendly destinations? I'd love to go west and see the mountains. It's so flat here in Illinois, ha! Anyone planning a summer getaway already?

Re: Summer Trips

  • If you want mts come to Colorado. It is beautiful here and there is so much to do!  We are thinking about driving to Yellowstone or mt Rushmore. We live in northern co so neither is too terrible to drive.
  • So I don't know if we'll be going on a summer trip but I'm taking the kids to Texas for spring break, my dad has a small ranch with some goats. We had horses growing up but when I went to college he got rid of them all since no one was riding them. They got a very nice retirement in Tennessee on a cousins ranch. Anyways since I have 3 and it's a 16 hr drive we will fly. I started solo flying with my oldest when he was 3 months and both the boys do great now. I get car sick easily so I'm not a road trip kind of gal. Oh and we don't go to Texas in the summer it's too hot, but Colorado is nice and the mountains are always cooler if it's hot in Denver. Frisco has a really fun BBQ challenge the weekend of Father's Day that we always go to and if it's cool enough we stop and fish at Lake Dillion.

  • We just booked tickets to fly out to California this spring break. It's a 1 hr ride and then another 3 hr one, so we're a little scared since LO gets fussy in our laps so easily. He does not fall asleep on our shoulders or arms at all, so it will be very interesting...he is 7 months now
  • We try to take a family vacation with my parents and sisters every summer (my mom's a teacher, so that limits when we can travel). This past summer we didn't travel since I was due with the twins, but even before they were born, my dad and I started planning the next vacation (this August). We're renting condos in Maui for a week. My older sister and her husband announced their first pregnancy on Christmas morning, and she's due mid-June, so they may not be going this year.

My dad and I love planning the family vacations, and we're huge Disneyphiles, so we're already discussing a Disney cruise in 2018, and WDW and Universal in 2019 sometime before the twins turn 3.

What about in a baby carrier? Could you strap him on and walk a couple laps to get him to sleep and then sit down?
