@WishingforLuck my acupuncturist said that there are points that can be stimulated to trigger the onset of natural labor so if I run past my due date she said I could come back to see her also, a prenatal massage therapist can activate those points that they are so careful to stay away from before you are due (ankles and hands)

@2legbaby thanks for the advice, I will try to see if I can get an appointment with an acupuncturist. My acupuncturist is about an hour away so I will try some other options before that.
@WishingforLuck in addition to what you've already planned, my hypnobirthing book recommends: lovemaking/nipple stimulation, taking a medium/hot bath, and acupuncture or acupressure. Good luck!

@WishingforLuck I just came from an appointment at my chiropractor. They also do massage and acupuncture there, and they told me that they have helped women get labor going when they are past due through acupressure and acupuncture. May be something to consider. Good luck!

@wishingforluck Red raspberry tea and 6 dates a day can help stimulate uterine contractions. Do you have an exercise ball? Gently bounce on the ball...helps to have someone there to support you if needed. Try also a guided meditation and /pregnancy affirmations for labor...try YouTube. There is a strong mind body connection and you just have to bring both of those together to get things going(think of the placebo effect). Good luck!!
@wishingforluck I think it's advised against getting a pedi bc they may rub your trigger points in your ankles/feet. Maybe try that, at the very least it'll be relaxing. Spicy foods seemed to work for a few of my family members too.
@BlueEyedDreamer I'm glad to hear you had an uneventful vaginal birth after being induced with pitocin. I will be induced this way if I don't go into labor naturally by 39 weeks, and it's been kind of scaring me!

Makes me sad that there are companies in the US that think a woman only needs 2 weeks of maternity leave. Pretty ridiculous. I'm very fortunate in that the company I work for gives 16 weeks paid leave. They also provide "mom rooms" with hospital grade pumps! If I decided to work from home for a while after my leave, they will pay for part of my childcare expenses on those days. All companies should consider treating their working mothers with respect and empathy - I'm so loyal to my company, that I may never leave! What a great way to reduce turnover... they would benefit in the long run.

I thought you all might need a good laugh today! I put my bra on this morning and I guess my boobs have enlarged over night because the underwire completely broke through the fabric and sprang out. All I could think of was, "Dear God! I could have poked my eye out". So I threw the bra away and pulled out my alternate bra (identical to the other one). I work from home most of the time and I'm sitting in the office (aka, hopefully one day the nursery if I can get my act together), and out of nowhere, I look down in my shirt and the underwire on that bra has pushed out and is sticking out. And the funny thing is I've been telling DH for the last 2 weeks, "I think I need to get a new bra soon."
So tonight we are heading out to the mall to get me some new bras. I'm going to see if I can get a nursing underwire bra (thought I could kill 2 birds with one stone). Does anyone have any preferences on nursing bras?

@babylonghorn16 your company sounds amazing! I wish all companies realized if you treat your employees right it'll only benefit the company in the long run.
@pdbird that gave me a laugh haha. Target has some cheep maternity and nursing bras. So if you outgrow them you aren't spending a fortune on new ones.
Does anyone else live in NJ but work in NYC? I've been trying to figure out if I can apply for the NJ state short term disability and bonding benefits for the weeks my company's maternity leave is unpaid.
The cat is out of the bag! Just sent an email to my team announcing I'm pregnant (because I was too scared to do it in person!). Told my supervisor yesterday and she was great: "wow congratulations that's so amazing...Crap, that means I have to try and replace you!"
@pdbird I read that nursing bras shouldn't have underwires because the wire can press on something (duct/blood vessel??) and impact your milk flow. I'm sure someone else is more knowledgeable on this, I'm still just wearing my "fat bras" - bras I used to wear when I weighed more!
@dragonfaerie I will definitely try that. I tried walking longer and my feet swelled so much I couldn't even prop it up on my pillow, I think I won't be doing that again. @ARB425 I got rid of my exercise ball but I will try the guided mediation on youtube. @ale9687 I got a pedicure on Tuesday where I received a wonderful massage but nothing happened afterwards. I did order some spicy food last night so hopefully that jump starts something. @yelllow22 I definitely hear you on the unpaid leave. It sucks. @pdbird I bought regular nursing bras (no wires) from burlington they were decently priced. Also as someone mentioned target has some nursing bras also.
My nursing bras are Pea in the Pod I think and they both have underwire. They are very comfy and still a little sexy and lowcut so I can wear tanktops. I only heard recently that underwire isn't a great idea, but it's too late now. If they get uncomfortable when I'm actually breastfeeding then I will suck it up and buy another one or two.

@dragonfaerie@pdbird@Nellin I've been wearing my old nursing bras for weeks now - so much more comfy! But I will say, I had TERRIBLE problems with blocked ducts when I was nursing DS, and underwire definitely made it worse. The nursing bras I wear now are just like super comfy sports bras, but I use the cups from the more structured nursing bras to smooth everything out... Just something to be aware of if you develop blocked ducts down the road (which you hopefully won't!).

@kelrauh My pharmacist and OB both said to stay away from cough drops with menthol in them. I ended up getting some really weak kind that was basically candy and didn't do anything for my throat I found that doing WARM water (not hot) with lemon and honey is what helped. If the water is too hot, it will strip the lemon of the nutrients you need when you're sick! You can also take robitussin. Feel better soon. Being sick while pregnant is awful

@dragonfaerie@BlueEyedDreamer@Nellin - With my DS I wore underwire nursing bras outside of the house. I'm a DDD, so I can't be hanging low No one needs to be seeing that! I never ran into any issues with nursing, so I'm hoping it's the same with this LO.
At night, I wore the sports bra types so I was more comfortable.
I ended up going to Nordstrom's last night and bought two bras and they said that if they still fit, they can convert them to nursing bra's for $16 a piece by cutting them and adding in the clips on the straps. My previous nursing bra's don't fit, so I will need to purchase new one's but was advised to not buy any until a week before I'm due or shortly after I have the baby as size can change when milk comes in (which is totally true). With my first DS, I looked like the picture on St. Pauli's beer.

@AandDM2014 I'm pretty sure you are right, it's most likely carpal tunnel and I know it's common during pregnancy. I've had wrist issues in the past and had to wear a brace, the fact that I work with my hands doesn't help either. I haven't used the brace recently, I may try it !

So after I had already decided (as I mentioned earlier in this thread) that I was registering for the Chicco Keyfit 30 car seat, my in laws take us baby shopping today and this cute little high end boutique store where we bought our furniture from happened to have the Nuna Pipa. Soooooo.... they ended up getting it for us! No way would we have spent that much on a car seat ourselves, nor would we have put a car seat that expensive on our registry in hopes of someone else buying it, but my in laws were in an extra generous mood today. I'm stoked! This car seat is awesome.
In addition, they also bought us our City Mini GT, a full bedroom set for the nursery, complete crib bedding set, a glider + matching ottoman, and the Nuna Leaf with the thingy that makes it swivel back and forth. Our little girl was really spoiled today!

@DDRGirlie The way it folds, and how light it is, is what really sold us on the City Mini GT.

It would have been easy for us to get a Nuna stroller that the car seat was automatically compatible with, but they just didn't compare to the City Mini. Best stroller ever, in my opinion, out of all the ones we tried at least! We will probably buy a double when we have our next kid
