Re: Exercise/Fitness Check In - January
1: How far along are you? 19w5d
2: How was December for you fitness-wise? I literally have not worked out since I went for a hike sometime in November, and I spent December eating everything I wanted to eat. I get depressed when I'm not active, so I'm changing it starting today.
3: What are your goals for the week/month ahead? I'm trying out a 7 day pass at the gym so that I can do laps, and I'm leaving as soon as I finish this post. I'll see how this first week goes before making longer-term goals, but I plan to go to the gym 3 times this week so that I don't feel like I wasted money on the pass.
4: What type of activities are you doing to stay in shape? So far none, but I'm starting with swimming because my hips are too sore to try running. I'm interested in trying some pre-natal yoga videos if anyone has recommendations.
5: Rants/Raves/Questions/Anything else you want to add? I'm still not sure what exercises are safe during pregnancy, so I'm interested to see what other people are doing.

1: How far along are you?
20 weeks today!
2: How was December for you fitness-wise?
So, so bad. I went on maybe two walks. Diet was ok until I went to the in-laws the week of Christmas and then it was terrible.
3: What are your goals for the week/month ahead?
I copied someone else's new years resolution to walk 12 miles per week. I did 2 on Monday and 4 yesterday. I hope to get in 6 miles today, but if not I'll extend the week through Sunday. Food-wise since my tentative diagnosis on Wednesday I have become kind of a crazy person nutrition-wise. There is a lot of research that says that diet can impact cancer development, recovery, and re-occurrence so I've been very strict about eating an anti-cancer diet (essentially lots of vegetables and no sugars, red meat, or processed foods). One of the silver linings from this whole thing is that I've now got great motivation to eat well.
4: What type of activities are you doing to stay in shape?
I find it almost impossible to get gym time in with a toddler and a long commute so I'll have to stick with walking for now. I have some pregnancy exercise DVDs but I found it really hard to get motivated. I'm also not sure how I'll be feeling once my treatment starts so I'm not going to commit to anything too crazy right now. I am very motivated to continue physical activity though, because I know I will feel better and I also know exercise has been shown to have an impact on cancer recovery as well.
5: Rants/Raves/Questions/Anything else you want to add?
I really, really, really want to down an entire pizza all by myself right now.
2: How was December for you fitness-wise? I've been doing pretty good, I didn't work out the week of Christmas though.
3: What are your goals for the week/month ahead? To start eating better again. We got really off track and I think it's been making me feel gross. And to get back to 4 days a week of exercising. I've started a daily smoothie to help with that.
4: What type of activities are you doing to stay in shape? I bought the Beachbody on Demand subscription so I could do their Active Maternity work out, but I love Beachbody work outs so after baby comes, I'll do the others too. When it warms back up outside, I plan on doing more outside...only about 40 more degrees to go for that (yay below zero's)!
5: Rants/Raves/Questions/Anything else you want to add? @kns1988 I also wan't completely sure what to do for a work out during pregnancy so I choose to do one that was specific for pregnancy. Active Maternity seems to be a pretty good program. The only downside is that you only get 1 workout for the whole trimester so it can feel boring some days. They do offer a free 30 day trial if that was something you wanted to try.
@RainyDays86, 12 miles a week sounds like a great goal! Is it a little warmer where you are?
Also... I did it! I went to the gym, got a free 7 day pass (which I was super excited about), swam some laps and did some weights/cardio. I haven't felt this good in months.

1: How far along are you? 21 weeks
2: How was December for you fitness-wise? My appetite was on the low side due to a major head cold so I figured that non-exercising plus less-eating kind of balanced each other out? Is that wrong of me?
3: What are your goals for the week/month ahead? More prenatal yoga. I went to a class this week and am really grateful to have done so. I did pn yoga during my last pregnancy and I think it helped strengthen me and give me (some, not enough!) endurance to work through labor. I'm definitely a fan, I just need to find a good class. There's a different one I'll check out this week.
4: What type of activities are you doing to stay in shape? Not enough?
5: Rants/Raves/Questions/Anything else you want to add? @kns1988: Please don't hesitate to chat with your OB about which exercises might be recommended (or contraindicated) for you personally. In general, though, there are women who do everything from walking and swimming, up to Iron Man and spartan races (up to a certain comfort point, that is). It all depends on what you're used to: I've heard that if you're a runner, you can keep running. Whatever your current regimen is, you can likely keep it. I personally wouldn't use my pregnant condition as the time to experiment with a totally new exercise like karate or motocross or MMA but that's just me!
2: How was December for you fitness-wise? Horrible. Kind of. I'm on my feet a lot at work (nurse in an emergency department) so I'm fairly active during my job, which means on my days off I'm recuperating sometimes. But I also went to NY and did a lot of walking there. My husband loves to go on walks with the dogs, so I joined a few of those. Overall, bad. I did my prenatal yoga ONCE in December.
3: What are your goals for the week/month ahead? Prenatal yoga at least 3 days a week. I really enjoy yoga/pilates, and have found there are plenty of videos on youtube or Barre3. I also need to be more cognizant of my eating. I'm gotten a bit lax, and need to refocus. Generally I try to eat very healthy.
4: What type of activities are you doing to stay in shape? Prenatal yoga, walks. Eating well.
5: Rants/Raves/Questions/Anything else you want to add? I'm disappointed in myself that I haven't kept up with yoga/activity/eating well. I got so disappointed it made me sad and it turned into a vicious cycle. But I did yoga today and hope I'm turning a new page this week.
@kns1988 Good job going to the gym! I'd say talk to your OB for sure, but basically the rule of thumb I've read/heard is don't add anything you weren't doing before. Stick with what feels comfortable and don't try to push yourself to a place of discomfort when exercising. I would definitely say start slow and steady.
@absbubbs With the maternity workout there's one video? I might look into that, thanks for mentioning it!
@RainyDays86 I think 12 miles a week is great! I've also heard great things about anti-cancer diets as well. At the very least, it is eating healthy and that can only be a good thing. (I was craving pizza today, too!)
@SKZW I don't think low-appetite + not exercising is a bad thing, I think it's sensible!

How was Dec fitness wise?
horrible! I maybe took a walk once a week.
What are your goals for the week/month ahead?
to walk for 30 mins at least 3x week. Begin doing yoga, and also begin using a yoga/exercise ball.
What kind of activities are you doing to stay in shape?
So far only walking 30 mins for a few times a week!
Rants/Raves/Questions/anything you'd like to add:
ive found some great exercises on Pinterest using a yoga/exercise ball. I plan to go out and buy one this week and begin using it. Looking forward to picking up a better fitness routine and eating better since all the holidays are over!

I just look up "prenatal yoga" on youtube and try them out. I will also put a plug here for Barre3. I have the basic membership and think it's worth the money. There are TONS of videos and they have a whole webpage about how to modify for pregnancy, but then there are a handful (I wish there were more) of prenatal specific videos. (As a side note, the previous link about modifications for yoga during pregnancy is a great page in general of how to tailor any yoga to being pregnant.) If I'm going to spend money on exercise, I put it towards Barre3. I do the videos online, in my home, and love it that way. Let me know if you try something out and how you like it, or if you find a great video!
2: How was December for you fitness-wise? fitness wise it wasn't too awful. I try to workout before work 4 times a week, but one week I didn't at all and all the others I had at least one day off from work so I didn't get up and workout on my days off. I also ate like I'd never eat again.
3: What are your goals for the week/month ahead? to stop eating all the food. I feel like I've gained a bit of weight in the last few weeks so I'd like to slow that down. I want to keep working out 4x a week.
4: What type of activities are you doing to stay in shape? walking on the treadmill, workout videos (insanity, Jillian Michaels, etc). I've been pretty lucky to be able to continue my previous regimen and haven't had to change much so far. My belly is pretty nonexistent, so the only modifier I've had to do is no laying on my stomach.
5: Rants/Raves/Questions/Anything else you want to add? proud of all of us for trying to stay active! It's hard for me because all I want to do is sleep, but cheers to us!
@kns1988 thanks for starting this thread!

2: How was December for you fitness-wise?
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!
3: What are your goals for the week/month ahead?
I need to figure out something that doesn't give me raging vag and round ligament pain beside yoga.
4: What type of activities are you doing to stay in shape?
Well running just ended today when I thought my cervix was going to explode and I can't fit comfortably on the rower any more so I am kind of wondering where to go from here.
5: Rants/Raves/Questions/Anything else you want to add?
The RLP and stabbing crotch pain with all cardio is such bullshit. I'm getting really frustrated and I am not a home workout girl so DVDs won't fill the gap.

2: How was December for you fitness-wise?
Umm yeah...about that...I think I may have done some of my PT exercises/stretches, but not much. I ate okay minus a few cookies here and there. Haven't craved much seeet so that's good.
3: What are your goals for the week/month ahead?
To to do my PT stuff every day...I use this website gat they gave me that is specifically for women who are pregnant. It's ran by a women who is a physical therapist so she gives you all of the stuff you can do while pregnant that's safe! Especially if you weren't much of an exercise person before. www.heyfitmama.com
4: What type of activities are you doing to stay in shape?
PT exercises/stretching and I want to start taking our dog on longer walks.
5: Rants/Raves/Questions/Anything else you want to add?
I'm so tired when I get home from work (hour commute both ways) that I don't want to do anything! But I really need to so I'm not paying for it later!!
Ugh stupid phone hone isn't letting me select stuff to take the bold off of my answers! I'm done lol

1: How far along are you? 24 weeks
2: How was December for you fitness-wise? It was okay. I averaged 3 workouts per week except for the last week, in which I finally was able to get 5 workouts in. I don't think that had happened since like September. This past week I got 4 workouts in.
3: What are your goals for the week/month ahead? Keep active. I want to workout at least 4x per week from here on out.
4: What type of activities are you doing to stay in shape? Running and a combination of running/walking sessions. When I first got pregnant I was doing a little bit of everything... yoga, pilates, weight training, x-training, running... but when my workouts went down to 2-3x per week I stopped everything except for running. In the last week though, SPD has flared up so I've started doing a mix of running and walking but I want to incorporate some strength training too since it won't be long before I'll have to stop running altogether.
5: Rants/Raves/Questions/Anything else you want to add? I need to get out of the habit that the holidays brought of eating so many bad foods!

@BabyMC517 Thanks for the website suggestion, I'm going to go check it out!
2: How was December for you fitness-wise? Not great. I think I went to barre twice? In my defense, I was sick.
3: What are your goals for the week/month ahead? I'm not sure. I actually cancelled barre because I wasn't going enough. I think I'd like to pick up a class here and there as well as some yoga classes. I have been trying to stretch at home so I'd like to do that more. I'll also get H and I back on our nightly walks.
4: What type of activities are you doing to stay in shape? I wont pretend I'm doing these anywhere near often enough, but Barre, yoga, walking, stretching
5: Rants/Raves/Questions/Anything else you want to add? I'm so tired and I get so out of breath! Can I just sleep? haha

2: How was December for you fitness-wise? Not very good.
3: What are your goals for the week/month ahead? Prenatal yoga. I need to do it more often.
4: What type of activities are you doing to stay in shape? @absbubbs I also got Beachbody on Demand, so i'll be checking that out soon. Walking and yoga are really it right now.
5: Rants/Raves/Questions/Anything else you want to add? @WombThereItIs I also have the stabbing crotch pain and even walking is killer. Makes working out very difficult.
