Utah?

My husband and I are a military family and thinking about relocating to hill Air Force base in northern Utah.  I was wondering if any of the mommys here had any info about places to avoid or to make sure to see or just some help since we have never been there. We are planning a week long trip in may but I'm trying to do some research before so we don't go completely clueless. The Air Force base is north of Salt Lake City and we will not be living on base so any neighborhoods to look at or stay away from would be super helpful. I would also love to know if any of you live there so maybe I could plan a play date during the time we go in may given Lily will be almost a year old and will be full of energy. Thanks hope someone can help.

Re: Utah?

  • I've never lived there, but my brother has been there for 15 years, and his wife is from there. I don't know geography super well there, but here is what I know

    - Ogden canyon is fun to visit, and has some great hiking trails and places for bonfires, etc.

-Bountiful is a really nice place to live, and both bountiful and Layton have good schools (at least from what SIL says).

-the treehouse museum in salt lake is amazing for kids. So cool

I like visiting my brother out there. Lots of good outdoor activities to do, and family friendly places.

  • We're also military (navy) and when we moved from CA to VA we visited a few of the national parks in Utah: Zion, Canyonlands, and Arches. Even outside of the national parks the state is beautiful. The family we have in Utah are all very outdoorsy people. Lots of great activities all year round.

  • Zion national park is absolutely beautiful!  Bryce Canyon is nearby so you can see both in one day. We hiked in the river (water up to our waist) to the waterfalls and it was a once in a lifetime experience!!!!  I would say it's not baby friendly hiking though because the trails we went on were steep, high and narrow.

Oh yeah, we went to Bryce too. Definitely worth the trip. We did the hike to delicate arch in Arches. It was tough, but we made it with kiddo. I think it was a 3 mile hike. Not too steep.
