Spotting after first AF?

Hello all! Hope everyone had a good new year's and that we are all looking onto 2017 with optimism.

Question for all of you lovely ladies. I had my second natural MC back in early November at 6 weeks. Finally got AF on December 20 and lasted quite awhile. (typically) have around 35-40 day cycles, so too early for ovulation. However, today I woke up with light brown spotting and has continued through the morning. Never not once have I ever spotted in between my periods. My RE indicated last week that my HCG is back to zero so I guess just confused - could this still be residual from the MC?

  • It's definitely possible that it's just residual and your body is still trying to get back to normal. Unfortunately it can take longer than we'd like sometimes. I would say if it continues or gets a lot heavier to maybe ask the doc again, but it could even be a short cycle (if bleeding gets heavier like AF) since mc can screw up our cycles. But hoping it's just random spotting and all is ok!! Sorry I'm not much more help.

  • @GG620 I think @Uhlease13 is probably right - it can take awhile to get everything back to normal.  I had instances of light brown spotting for the entire month of July, which was more than 3 months after my natural-MC.  At that point, of course, my OBGYN was concerned (and ordered bloodwork to test my thyroid, iron, and prolactin levels) but when I had contacted her after it had been happening for 2ish weeks, she didn't seem too concerned and said it was just my body still regulating.  If it gets heavier or goes on for too long, I'd call.  Hope it stops soon, though!

  • Thank you for the responses ladies.

Just an update - turned bright red/heavier flow like normal AF last night. Spoke with OB and she was not concerned and said will just be wonky. Happy it is nothing, but ughh so frustrating. Was just hoping I was getting regular finally and we could try again. Oh well...

  • @GG620.  I had bright red bouts after my d & c too.  It occurred after I worked out and lasted a day or two.  My doctor said body was still recovering and nothing to worry about.  That happened each time I worked out for about two weeks.  Our bodies have a mind of there own. I'm still waiting for everything to be regular.  Each time I think cycle is more regular something changes.  Totally understand your frustration. I hope you get some normalcy soon!
  • It's frustrating, but there's no real normal after loss. It's hard to know when to talk to the doctor, too, but whatever you're uncomfortable with is probably a good start. It can take months to regulate, even though my cycles came back kinda normal right away - they were just ever so slightly off with ovulation moving around a lot and a full, painful 16 day luteal phase with at least five days of spotting leading up, which is not ideal.
