Re: Thursday Ticker Change 12/29

  • How far along are you?
    17 weeks

    How big is baby?
Pomegranate (or order of fries, which now I must have)

    Appointment updates?
I had an awful 16 week checkup on Tuesday where we had to wait nearly an hour for an ultrasound machine because baby's heartbeat couldn't be found with the Doppler. All was well thankfully but the wait sucked.

    Any new symptoms or changes?
My back and right hip are really not liking the change to side sleeping (I was a stomach sleeper until a couple weeks ago).

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Just anxious to feel movement so I'm no longer waiting on appointments for reassurance that things are fine.

GTKY: My H and I have gone out partying every NYE with several of our couple friends for the past 5 years or so. The last two years I started making dinner for all of us beforehand and it's become a fun tradition. This year we're staying in but I'll still be making the traditional dinner for all of us.

  • How far along are you? 18 weeks!!! Officially half way done! (They won't let me go past 36 weeks!)

    How big is baby? Artichokes

Appointment updates? Nothing until next week.

Any new symptoms or changes?  Waves of nausea are back and the nose bleeding is annoying.

    Rants/Raves/Questions? Nothing

GTKY: What traditions do you have for bringing in the new year? We don't have any traditions really. Last year we slept comfortably in our bed for New Years. This year we are going to Palm Springs for the weeekend with another couple. I am excited for that!!!
  • How far along are you? 16 weeks
    How big is baby? Avocado
Appointment updates? Last Friday very quick check, my anatomy scan was scheduled for 1/20
Any new symptoms or changes? movements!
Rants/Raves/Questions? All is good over here
GTKY: What traditions do you have for bringing in the new year? no traditions but this year a friend is having a house party
  • How far along are you? 18 weeks!

How big is baby? Artichoke or more importantly a pint of Ben and Jerry's

Appointment updates?  First one in almost 6 weeks next week- can't wait to make sure everything is okay!

Any new symptoms or changes?  Omgggg I totally popped over Christmas.  I went from aww cute little bump to holy shit how many babies are in there.  (spoiler alert it's probably mostly just cheese)

Rants/Raves/Questions? My hips hurt sooooo bad sleeping on my side.  This is just the beginning.

GTKY: What traditions do you have for bringing in the new year? We don't really do anything for New Years.  Usually just watch football on the couch and make snacks.

    How far along are you?

    16 weeks

    How big is baby?

    An avocado

    Appointment updates?

    Nothing until the 12th.

    Any new symptoms or changes?

Nothing really. I have been having trouble standing for moderate amounts of time.
Like I need to sit down or I start to feel dizzy and faint. But other than that, smooth sailing.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?

I'm pretty sure I've been feeling some movement lately, so that's really exciting!

My SIL is due a few days after me and just has her gender reveal party. I just want to know what I'm having already! 4 more weeks.
GTKY: What traditions do you have for bringing in the new year?

We don't have any traditions. We've always done something different each NYE so far. I suspect this year will be pretty low key.

  • How far along are you? 18 weeks! Almost half way!

How big is baby? A bell pepper

Appointment updates? None until January 16th

Any new symptoms or changes?  Lots of movement! Baby is all over the place. Everyone has told me my "glow" has kicked in but I'm still waiting to see it.

Rants/Raves/Questions?  @CurlyMommy416  I'm with you on the hips/shoulder pain! I'm usually a back sleeper so my sides are taking a beating. Yoga has helped relieve a lot of the soreness!!

GTKY: What traditions do you have for bringing in the new year?

Every other year we are at our cabin in upper lower Michigan with my in laws. We drove from the UP (upper pennisula) to the cabin yesterday.
My MIL and I always go to crystal mountain spa for massages and then we go out to a restaurant called Boons for dinner with family and friends. Back to the cabin to party and celebrate!! We have a catwalk hallway upstairs so we usually fashion a tin foil ball and drop it from there...it's always funny to see how it's decorated each year. The years we aren't up north, we go out on the town in my hometown in the UP. There's a whole big ball drop downtown, it's fun!

@meilay that sounds like a super stressful appointment! Sorry you had to go through that, and so happy it had a happy ending!

    One day late....

    How far along are you?
    17 weeks

    How big is baby? pomegranate

Appointment updates?  just had one on Tuesday that went well. Next one is not until my anatomy scan on Jan 25th. Excited to find out the sex!

Any new symptoms or changes?  Finally feel like I'm showing!! Feeling generally great, other then occasional headaches, which usually go away if I chug a bunch of water.

Rants/Raves/Questions?  Work has  slowed down this week and I've really enjoyed more time to get outside, get extra exercise and enjoy winter beach time. Hoping I can continue to make time for this in the new year!

GTKY: What traditions do you have for bringing in the new year? no set traditions but we often get tickets to a concert. Now that our friends are having kids I think the shift will be to renting a house/ cabin somewhere so we can all hangout, eat, and have a few drinks in a kid friendly way.

Any new symptoms or changes?  Nothing new, still tired and feeling good. Lots of movement with little one! Not consistent but at least when I'm laying in bed or on the couch.

Rants/Raves/Questions? Tomorrow we have our Gender Reveal at midnight to celebrate the new year! I hope it's a girl so bad but I'm scared I'll be having another boy!

  • @CurlyMommy416 it's been a life safer! There are some really low key shoulder opening and general stretching sequences that I get a lot out of without feeling like I'm straining or overworking. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send some your way!

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
GTKY: What traditions do you have for bringing in the new year?  Have been really missing out on my extended family ski trips for the past few years because of work obligations, but have made a resolution to plan ahead for it next year. Life is too short!

Rants/Raves/Questions? Tomorrow we have our Gender Reveal at midnight to celebrate the new year! I hope it's a girl so bad but I'm scared I'll be having another boy!

Having been on the bump for nearly three years now, you have to know that sex disappointment isn't going to go well.

Whatever happened to just wanting a fvcking healthy baby...?

Pretty sure there isn't anyone who wishes for an un-healthy baby..... but I guess I should have clarified. I'm sure you'll be happy to hear it was a boy!

Pretty sure you missed the entire point. Obviously no one wishes for an unhealthy baby, so how about you just be grateful for the fact that although it's not your desired sex, you at least are 1) pregnant and 2) your child is seemingly healthy despite lacking a vagina.

I was certainly happier than you to hear your fetus was of the male variety. I pray your child never sees your obviously disappointed reaction or be prepared to shell out some serious therapy money.
  • @JessicaHerron13 What scares you about another boy?
  • Nothing says 'I love my child' like an 'oh fuck', a thumbs down and obvious disappointment on your face. Oh and 'ugh another boy (insert crying emoji here).

    Get some perspective, broad.
Omg.... was that her reaction? :(

    Yep.
  • With that reaction I am genuinely curious about your experience with your first son. Was it a difficult transition into parenthood with him? Was he a fussy baby or challenging toddler? Something difficult or hard had to have happened for this strong reaction.

    @JessicaHerron13
  • @Mother0fDragons, I was in a group with her when she had her first son. I won't answer whether or not he was difficult or fussy or a difficult transition, but I will say, if I recall correctly, she had a similar reaction to her first son.

    *Removed for TOU Violation*
  • Having my DS made me love little boys that much more.  Anyone scared over the prospect of either sex shouldn't take that 50/50 gamble period.  So sad... I know a few couples struggling with IF who wouldn't care if a baby had a penis or vagina.
  • We had a "gender reveal" party for a friend a couple years ago. My friends husband knew the sex and prepared all the cans of silly string to spray at them, but he must have missed one can and a tiny spec of blue was on the nozzle- apparently before the party she was oraganzing the table and noticed but didn't tell anyone until after! We went ahead with the party and when they were sprayed she bawled her eyes out that it was "another" boy, everyone just stood there in awkward silence while she got herself together... then come to find out she knew beforehand and still acted like that on camera and in front of everyone! It was gross. Now she let her second little boy grow his hair out like a girl and puts it in a man bun because "it's the closest she'll get to having a girl" extra gross!
  • I'm feeling fairly enraged by her reaction to another beautiful baby. I seriously didn't know people decided to get pregnant for anything other then a CHILD. I have no other words that are appropriate for TB.
Having my second boy, I'm just GRATEFUL to be carry a beautiful heartbeat in my belly and praying for his health and well being.

I'm sure admin will be here soon to close this thread...

My sister has 3 amazing boys and still to this day complains in front of them about not getting the girl she wanted. It really chaps my ass. Sorry you're scared to have a kid that pees standing up instead of sitting down. I hope you grow up and get over your petty bs. I'm glad to see that gender disappointment still does not go over well on TB. It still irritates me to no end.

edit: you're not your. Ya know, grammar.
  • @kassyfry That's awful. And makes me so sad for your BIL.

  • To those curious, I'm sorry it bothers you that I had a strong preference on gender. Just because I really wanted a girl doesn't mean that I don't want my baby boy. The video yes, shows fun and thumbs down and obvious smiling and laughing the entire time.

My my little 2.5 year boy is my life. I wanted a boy sooo badly with him. I couldn't imagine a girl first because I really wanted s boy. He was the easiest baby, sleeping 12 hours in his room starting at 7 weeks, happy, like clockwork. He's 100% boy as a toddler, likes all rough, tough and messy experiences. Yes he's a boy and wild and a dare devil but he's a sweet mamas boy and cuddles and smothers me in kisses. His downfall, well he doesn't nap! But that's not related to his gender.

My husband and I were thrilled to find out we were finally expecting and nothing is any different now that it's a boy. Where you get the idea to wish my sons good luck for their life or that I don't love my children is beyond me. But to each their own. I know plenty of people that have true hard gender disappointment in their own life, but I'm not actually sad that I'm having a boy. Not once have I regretted having a boy. Not once has any ill thought come into my mind about either of my boys. What does make me sad, is how people or rather other moms, think I don't love my unborn son that we've created and that I'm growing and nurturing inside my womb.

@JessicaHerron13 I am glad you came back to explain yourself bc as an outsider reading the previous discussion, I was pretty put off by your strong preference and the reaction described. The reason people thought the things you mentioned in your last paragraph is bc its how you wrote it. Sex disappointment is not something I think I will ever understand. I truely hope your thumbs down reaction was a joke. Either way, Congratulations on your baby boy.

Edit: corrected gender to sex bc I do not want to contribute to all that is wrong with disappointment over anatomy

  • Might I remind you that you referred to finding out you were having a son as 'dooms day'.

::dirty lurker:: I pray your sons, and any future sons, NEVER see your reaction to him being (or them being) a boy. I would feel so awful if my parents responded "Ugh", "doomsday", "thumbs down", "multiple crying sad faces" and "no blue hearts! Only PINK, "you Know I want a girl". No wonder we couldn't really tell you were actually happy to be having a boy. You are (acting like) the worst of the worst.
