  • I'm 10+2 and over the past couple weeks I've starting gagging every time I take my Nature Made with DHA prenatal vitamin before bed (it was so bad this weekend that I actually skipped a couple nights and felt super guilty about it afterwards). Does anyone have a recommendation for a good pnv that's smaller/easier to take?? Or should I just suck it up (no pun intended...)and trust it'll pass in the second trimester??

My doctor gave me several samples to try. The smallest/easiest one is called Prenate Mini. It's about the size of a jelly bean. You need a prescription for it though.
  • @Pepper16 I take the pre-natal gummies. I can't take regular person vitamins, so I've been on the gummy train for years.
  • I'm so frustrated with Christmas presents. My parents bought ds a train table which they knew was going to be our big gift to him from Santa. Then we bought him other stuff and one of the toys we're hoping he was really excited about my sil got for him and will give it to him before Christmas morning. I'm just done buying gifts for him forever, I went overboard and bought to much which I feel bad about and now he's gonna get double gifts. I tried to keep it small but couldn't and got burnt. I'm over thinking it and I hate it.
  • @morgarita these folks knew you got those gifts for your son and still got them anyway?  That'd drive me crazy! Sorry about that :(

  • I had a very rough appointment yesterday and what made it worse was that I wasn't even able to see MY doctor.

Surprise BFP on 10/25/16!!! Baby Firecracker is due on 07/02/17!
  • And I realize I'm being a ungrateful brat which is why I posted that here where you all don't know me in real life.
  • @morgarita I don't think it's ungrateful if folks got your DS gifts they knew you already got him.  That sounds super frustrating.

@Pepper16 Try BellyBar Chewables or Gummys.  I found Vitamin World DHA to be the smallest.  There are also chewable DHA options but they all taste terrible to me.

@morgarita hey just cause we're not IRL friends doesn't mean we won't call you out  ;) but this isn't one of those times, I think your frustration is justified!

  • I've been producing too much saliva and it's driving me nuts. I just got a patch and pills from my OB which I think are starting to decrease the saliva. I'm hoping so so bad that after this first trimester things start to settle down. I'm desperate to be my normal self again. I'll be 12 weeks Friday.
  • @dancegurl1118 I was kind of hoping someone would call me out so I would stop being irritated about it and try to feel thankful.  And if it was irl I would feel worse.
  • @AdaByron @Rae1 @PurplePumpernickel @Xath thank you all so much for your suggestions!! Sounds like the gummys are a good place to start - off to get some now!

  • I just had a serious Christmas shopping fail. I live in a walking town w lots of shops so I bundled up and went out to get those last minute gifts. Well, nausea decided to hit hard and I tried to trudge through and ignore it. Eventually it got to be too much, so I power walked home and ran into my chatty neighbor. I had to rudely cut her off bc I thought I would get sick right in front of her. Anyway turns out it was good I cut the convo short. Came home w no gifts. Womp womp.

I am not big into Christmas, gifts, or acting like a spoiled brat when people want to do nice things for my child. I am the first to call people out on that crap, and I believe intentions are more important than anything - it's a generosity of spirit that matters, IMHO. But I would be frustrated in your shoes.

My MIL did that to me last year on DH's birthday. Stole my gift idea right from under my nose. I was livid and hurt. I got over it eventually, but it was hard.

In your situation, I would think about the intentions of the gift givers. If it was an honest mistake, fine. Lick your wounds and be happy for your kid. See if you can exchange or return them for something else.

If they already knew you purchased the gifts, I would make it clear that Santa already charged the gifts and therefore sorry, my kid can't see you til after Christmas. I am not a person that usually does that, but if they are truly being that thoughtless or vindictive, no way would I let them ruin things.

I am really sorry. I have been in your shoes and it just sucks. It saps all the goodness out of a situation in which you only had good intentions.

I started cutting the pills in half- they are tablets, so easy enough (i don't cut the DHA for obvious reasons). I do that when I'm feeling well enough. If I'm not feeling well I do gummies.

Also, I just learned a trick if you look down when you swallow your pills it's less gaggy. Works surprising well (if I'm not feeling sick already).

Hope you start feeling better soon :)

  • @Pepper16 my OB gave me several samples of prenatals, maybe you can call the nurse and ask. I like VitalFol I'll have to check the correct spelling in the morning but it's something like that. It's small about the size of a jelly bean.
  • I was upset yesterday and didn't explain.

Monday I had an OB checkup, my OB was needed for a delivery so I saw the nurse practitioner. She didn't know my loss history, or my blood pressure history, so she was a little cold. We could not hear the heartbeat with Doppler (which I was expecting because I was only 11w4d and plus size). So she brought in an ultrasound machine, did an abdominal, took a couple pictures but didn't catch the heartbeat, so she did a transvaginal.  Took more pictures and then she was finally able to catch the heartbeat.  She said everything looks "ok" and the pictures aren't good because of my weight, baby was moving too much/had back to us.  My OB ended up calling, spoke with the NP.  NP wrote me up a referral to see an MFM for " U/S consult and co-manage pre-existing chronic hypertension"

The pictures she gave me look nothing like a baby, still like a big blob.  It makes me very nervous.  MFM appointment is on Thursday at 2 pm.  The nurse from his office called and said I will be having a level 2 ultrasound and my appointment will take about an hour.

  • We made a list of ten for each boy and girl name, then narrowed it down to five on each list, and went from there. We each got 2-3 hard vetos for each sex. It didn't even really work because we decided on a girls name early on and we were never really convinced on a boys name, the rubber would've hit the road if it was a boy at delivery.

We always had a running list of 5 or so names for a boy or a girl. We were Team Green last time, so the names conversation didn't happen until maybe 15/16 weeks although I was thinking about it all the time, really. I think he'd shoot names down left and right and if I felt strongly enough for them, I'd keep them on the list and revisit them every so often to see if he had changed his mind/if they grew on him, etc.

The one thing I should've done is to review the final list going into the hospital and actually write them down or something because when they pulled her out, instead of saying "It's a girl!" he said "It's a (DD's name)!" .... which would be fine if it was actually one of the names on my list. It had dropped off around week 17.

We kept her name as-is but he's got no say in what we name this next one.
  • @satsumasandlemons omg that story's priceless!!

@cait32 with our first, I was into late second trimester before I could get DH to think seriously about names. It just didn't seem real or urgent enough for him until then. I made lists and talked about it constantly, and then one day he finally just got on board.
  • @Cait32 he found a baby name app and looked at it on his own. He would throw a name at me, most of the time I didnt like it but if I did it went on a list. We only could agree on like 3, and went from there.
  • Cait32 said:
This is a random, I think.

For those of you who have been through this before: when it came to choosing a name, did you go through any process with DH? I've posted about this in some of my updates today, and we just found out its a girl. I have a few names I like (one in particular), and DH hasn't said anything he likes yet. Should we both look through books and list out 5-10 we like and then share lists? I don't want it to be a point of contention, but I feel worried to tell him THE name that's in my head, because what if he immediately shoots it down? I sort of want to hide it in a list and bring him around to it--ha.

Did anyone have a "process" they can recommend?
For a girl name, I've always had it in my head and he has said fine to it. He's more doubtful about the middle name, but I said OK, then I get to pick the last name... so I think I win.

As far as boy names, I don't love any TBH. He didn't have any in mind either, so we went through some apps to see if we agreed on any. (We actually had agreed on Oliver - Ollie- a long time ago, because my girl name is Ellie, but now that I really have to research names I find out it's in the top 10! What the heck!!)

We got this app called Baby Names which is like name tinder - you both download the app and you each say yes or no to each name in the list, and it alerts you if you have a match! So that's where our current list came from.

Anyone else bruise really bad? I bruise easy, but I don't remember it being this bad last time...or getting as many blood draws either...
eta: this is from 24 hrs ago but it started bruising immediately

  • @GlitterFish DS2 is Oliver, and we have never met another Oliver in all the 5.5 years he's been alive! I didn't even realize it was in the top 10.  I get so many compliments on the name from all kinds of people. It's a great solid name, and we nn him ollie too.
  • @supermom83 we also have an Oliver. I hear other kids called it all the time but I think it's a regional thing. Oh I think you can search regionally can't you. There was 3 Olivia's in ds daycare class that was our girl name.
  • So I've given up. I normally hand make all my christmas gifts, and I bought the supplies to make them, but I have been so sick and tired since the week before Thanksgiving that I have been completely incapable of doing anything but laying on the couch and watching TV. Which is 100% NOT me. I do not sit down and watch Tv like ever. I'm always doing other things, cleaning, organizing, crafting, researching, cooking, going out..... Nope. I've been down and out with this pregnancy. I now have to tell all our family that I don't have gifts for them because I've been so sick, and that I'll send them the gifts as soon as I can. I am starting to feel better, but it just wasn't soon enough. I would go buy gifts for everyone, but for one I just kind of don't want to do that, and for two I don't really have the money either. I feel so bad about this, but I just can't do anything about it. I can't sit all day and do this crafting. It's too tiring and I'm too far behind to make anything real. I could make like stupid easy ornaments, but it just isn't the same, and I feel like mini/lesser gifts are worse than no gifts at all with an explanation. Sigh. I feel completely defeated.
