Carrier Testing?

Has anyone done genetic carrier testing? I did mine (Recombine) a few weeks ago and today I have a call with the counselor to go over results. My OB warned me that they make you do the call even if the results are fine, but I'm still a little nervous. Has anyone done this? What was your experience like?

Everyone who's done IVF has done it before their first cycle! If you don't have a family history of chromosomal disorders and aren't from certain ethnic groups with a high prevalence (such as Ashkenazi Jewish like my husband), the odds are very high that everything will be totally normal. Genetic testing is such a new field that they do an overabundance of counseling so people feel supported (whether they care or not) with how to interpret the results, especially when there are "variants of unknown significance" which sound scary but generally mean nothing. I had to schedule an in-person 30 min appointment in the middle of the workday to hear my BRCA test was negative! (not related to pregnancy)

Awesome @leilac! I did Counsyl with my first pregnancy. I kept checking incessantly and it said completed but that my doctor had to release the results to me which obviously made me think the worst. I wish all these tests were instantaneous!

Awesome! I did this years ago with my second pregnancy (which, like my first, ended in miscarriage), and found out I was a carrier of spinal muscular atrophy. I was terrified but thankfully my husband came back clear.
