Re: Heart Palpitations Anyone?

  • ive been having heart palpitations frequently the past 2 weeks (currently 8w1d with my second baby) and was wondering if anyone else is experiencing them. It feels like my heart just skips a beat or flutters and I know we have increased blood flow so the hearts just trying to regulate that but they're still scary! Can anyone relate?

I have had that every now and then before I became pregnant but not since getting pregnant so I can understand them. I am sure it is fine but I would call and mention it to your doctor just to be on the safe side.

  • I noticed palpitations early on (4-5 weeks), but haven't felt them lately.  I would ask your doctor at your next appointment.  My doc wasn't concerned, but they had gone away by that point.

  • I had them too around 7-8 weeks and they seem to have gone away.  I understand that they are pregnancy symptoms as the extra blood flow can cause them.

  • I've had them in all my pregnancies. Mentioned it to Ob during 2nd pregnancy and she sent me to cardiologist who had me wear a hotter monitor for 24 hours and it did record some palps but they were not dangerous. They stopped after my pregnancy. I also get them a few days before my period.

  • @MrsWilson830 My heart always skips beats fairly regularly (about once an hour) - this was checked out by a cardiologist long before pregnancy and he told me it's not a problem and is fairly common. Since becoming pregnant, I've noticed they've become more frequent/noticeable. I mentioned this to my OB at my last appointment and she said it's perfectly normal: for women who've felt these heart flutterings before, pregnancy can make them more apparent. For others who haven't, pregnancy can uncover them for the first time. So I'd mention the symptom to your doctor, but wouldn't be too concerned!

  • @MrsWilson830 our sons were born on the same day!
also I had these PVC-like flutters during my first pregnancy and my midwife told me it was due to the relaxin. I was really worried because my mom developed cardiomyopathy with her second child, my sister, at only 26! I'm so worried history is going to repeat itself, but all seems normal for now!
