Re: 2nd Tri Check In Week Of 12/12

  • Good morning ladies! Today I am 22+2 with my three littles. We're still hoping to make it to 3/10 when I'll be just shy of 35 weeks, but we're especially hoping we don't get Christmas babies! My next appointment is on Wednesday, my last one before Christmas! I'm hoping to get video of the ultrasound to share with our families, then on social media.

I have definitely noticed much more movement this past week, and DH has been able to feel kicks nearly every day, which is way awesome! I'm pretty positive that I've felt all three of them move, though I think I feel B most often. I'll ask at my appointment for confirmation of whose feet are where.

QOTW: DH never wants to talk about baby names. Whenever I say any, he just sort of shrugs and says "eh". So not helpful. My current front runner girls names are Clementine, Edith and Elsie. DH completely shot down my boy favorite, Griffin with Finn as a nickname, so I have to go back and look at my other top names. I think most people would think that getting to pick 6 names would be great because you can use all your favorites, but that hasn't been the case for me at all.

  • @wifeinraleigh28 Oh my gosh, LOVE your announcement!!!!!!!! So darn cute! I'm glad your RLP is easing, but that sucks that the pain has just migrated to your back. Ick! I hope you find something to make it feel better, maybe a heating pad on low setting? What a lovely name and tradition! I sure hope DH gets on board with giving them names, since we can't just call them "A, B and C" for their whole lives!

Hi everyone. I'm 19w3d today, and I'm feeling pretty down. I'm still battling nausea and exhaustion, and it's just really taking a toll on me physically and emotionally. I'm still on diclegis, which helps somewhat with the nausea but which makes it really hard for me to sleep b/c it gives me really bad restless leg syndrome. I wake up about 5 times per night and have a really hard time getting back to sleep. Add chasing a toddler, writing a dissertation, a last minute trip to visit DH's family this weekend 5 hours away, and hosting my family for Christmas into the mix, and I just sick and exhausted and feeling really run down!

I have an OB appointment later this week, and I plan to talk to them about my options. But when I brought it up at the last appointment, they were just like, "Well try relaxing in the evening before you go to bed, and the nausea should ease up soon." Yeah. Not helpful.

QOTW: We are having a hard time coming up with a name. We named DS after DH - they are the III and IV of their name, so that was an easy pick. Coming up with another boy name we love has been a challenge. I'll be looking at this thread through the week for some inspiration!

    ETA:
@wifeinraleigh28 What a cute announcement! I love it! You look great!
@AandDM2014 That is so cool that you can feel each one kick! And those are great baby names, too! It must be hard to come up with so many options... We're having trouble with just one!

@wifeinraleigh28 Cute announcement! Sorry to hear about your back pain. Mine seized up again yesterday. I took Tylenol and used my heating pad twice. It helped a little. I found that walking actually made it feel best, so I went to Target and did laps. Sitting on the couch seems to exacerbate the pain.

@AandDM2014 Choosing boy's names has been very difficult for us too. We disagree on all the boy names. My favorite was Silas but he said no. The only name he suggests is Payton which is a grandparent's last name. I appreciate the sentiment, but I hate it! Waaaaaay too trendy.

I'm 20 weeks today! Halfway there! Our anatomy scan is Wednesday, and I can't wait. So many of my fb friends are due the week after me and they are all announcing the genders this week! Everybody on here already knows! Patience is not one of my virtues.

As for names, we have decided on Della for a girl. If it's a boy, we might just call it Thing One because we literally cannot agree on anything!

  • Hi everyone!
    17 and 1/2 wks today!
I dont know if any of you have had similar experiences, but we live in the coldest damn place and of course none of my winter coats fit me anymore, but not being the tiniest lady, its been a huge pain in the ass to find a coat that will fit as my stomach begins to protrude more and more. Any advice? Just get a mens coat? A plus size one? The maternity ones seem flimsy and I need one that will do its job in -10 degree weather, which I've been informed is coming later this week. Blech.
We went to a couple xmas parties this weekend, where friends' little ones seemed way more interested in my husband and me than normal. It was extremely sweet but also bizarre - can they like, smell the soon-to-be-parenthood on us? Also learned husband's favorite new party trick is seeing what sizes of glassware can balance on my tummy when i sit down. Hiiiiilarious.
@wifeinraleigh28 - your announcement is adorable. Its like the exact kind of thing my husband would make.

QOTW: We have narrowed it down to 2 names, seemingly. Made the mistake of telling my mom who had immediate problems with both. She felt one of the names (Owen - cute, right?) was a "serial killer's name" which a. sounded crazy to us and b. didnt seem accurate. We actually went on Wikipedia and found the list of all the serial killers. Guess what? No Owens. My mom's favorite name is Henry (which, to be fair, is a very cute name). Bad news, Mom. 8 serial killer Henrys. Mom is officially no longer privy to our naming discussions. If any of you have moms who are bananas like mine, I suggest you do the same. (I love her v much, but she is bananas).

  • @BlueEyedDreamer I'm sorry you're still feeling so bad. I hope your OB can give you some good options to help make you feel better.

@clt2pwm11 I agree with you that Payton is kind of a no-no. It sounds very... I dunno, like a hipster millenial would use it. Ick. Happy 20 weeks!! I love the name Thing One! Perfect!

@alaaronson Oh yikes, I'm sorry to hear about your cold weather. I'd send some of my lovely so Cal weather your way if I could! Oh DH! So very silly! Mine hasn't quite gotten to that point yet, but I have a feeling he'll be trying to balance things soon. Lol about your mom and serial killers! That is too funny! I refuse to tell any of our name picks to anyone I know IRL until after we've set them and the babies have been born. I maybe, might tell my MIL, but only because she is cross stitching birth announcements, and she wants to get them done as soon after the babies are born as possible. We'll see.

  • Hey ladies. I have some terrible news to share.

Halips has contacted me, and unfortunately the bleeding she had at 15 weeks escalated until she was hospitalized at 18 weeks. Right before Thanksgiving she went into preterm labor, and after 30 hours of attempting to stop the bleeding and contractions, she gave birth to her baby girl. Her and her husband picked out the name Evangeline, and she was perfect. They are still grieving, but slowly each day is getting better. She still plans to check in on us, but most likely won't be posting. She wishes nothing but the best for us, and hopes to join the PaIF board again soon.

  • Oh, to me Payton sounds very redneck. I teach in the South and there are more Paytons and Peytons than you can throw sticks at! And it used to be very much masculine name but in the past few years I've seen more and more girls with the name. . .so I'm not digging it!

@alaaronson Thankfully my coat still zips. I'll keep rocking this one even if it doesn't zip because I love in a place that doesn't get too terribly cold. You might have to invest in layers of you can't find a coat thick enough to cover bumpus. Good luck!

  • @alaaronson I live in a cold place, too, and I've had trouble so far finding warm maternity clothes. We moved from a warm climate to a very cold climate since the last time I was pregnant... So I'm looking to add warmer pieces to my maternity wardrobe but not having much luck. My only maternity coat is pretty thin and definitely won't cut it here in the mountains. I managed to fit into one of my warmer puffy coats through my last pregnancy, and I'm HOPING that I can do the same this time around. It's a style that's not as fitted, with a belt that you tie at the waist, when you actually have a waist... Maybe try that style in a larger size?

Also, I agree with @AandDM2014 that it's wise not to tell anyone about names until you've made your final selection. And when you do announce, make sure people know it's your final decision so that they don't make any weird or annoying commentary, like it's up for debate... I had some bad experiences last time around!

@AandDM2014 and @halips My heart is breaking at this news. Halips' family is in my thoughts and prayers. <3

@alaaronson I went to Good will the other day and RAIDED the maternity stuff. This little munchkin was our last embryo and if we decide to have a sibling we have already done the first steps to adopt through foster care so I can't stand the idea of spending loads of money on a few months. I didn't see any jackets so I just perused the jacket section and found one that should hopefully cover my bump until winter is over! I think your mom's serial killer concerns are awesome ha ha!! too funny!

  • Hi all, 23 weeks tomorrow! No apt's this week, but everything looked perfect at our echo last week. @wifeinraleigh28 Love the announcement! Deff right up DH's alley as well. @aanddm2014 thank you for letting us know, I'll be thinking of @halips and her family.

qotw: dh and I are both ALK so we
wanted to keep the initials going, ds' name will be Anthony Louis. We told family at thanksgiving and everyone loves the name but since my family is all Italians from the Bronx we got a few ppl jokingly saying Tony or Antny in their thickest accent possible. Dh's dad said the same thing and I freaked out telling him if he doesn't say Anthony properly don't expect to be welcomed in my home.
  • @2legbaby How lovely to name your babe after DHs mother!

@ale9687 I'm glad your echo went well! So cute to continue the initials with your kids!

  • Hi Ladies – I ‘m so excited to be joining you this week. I am 14+5 today - EDD 6/8. We are having a boy! Our next appt is after Christmas.

I’ve been battling a cold on an off since thanksgiving. I’ve finally broken down today and planning to take some meds that the OB said I could to try to get rid of this. I don’t feel that horrible, I just feel like I’ve had it for too long.

QOTW: barely. We decided to put off any significant planning until our 20 week appt (or at least after the holidays) so that we can just enjoy being pregnant for a while. However, we are definitely not telling anyone our names as I really don’t want others opinions – ha! When we told people we were pregnant my husbands 7 year old nephew threw out a few names and my mother in law immediately rejected them, so there’s no way I’m opening myself to that.

  • Hello!!! I'm 14w today. Baby is the size of a peach. I'm single mom by choice and conceived via IUI. This is my first child and pregnancy. Things are going great so far. I will be finding out the sex the end of January at my 20w scan. My names so far are Ezra (boy) and Cora (girl). I still can't believe at times that I'm pregnant but I'm enjoying the journey.
  • I am excited to see so many new faces on this board this week!

I am 16 weeks and 2 days with twins. I am starting to feel what I assume is one of the babies moving. I get it about the same time every night or when I eat certain things. I font know if both of the babies are close to the same spot or if I am only feeling one. I go to the OB tomorrow for a check up. I am a bit concerned because I don't think I am gaining weight like I should. I seem to be loosing fat everywhere and gaining a belly slowly. hopefully they are okay with this. I am also hoping that they have a hard time with the doppler tomorrow so I can see our little nuggets!

QOTW -  We have talked baby names and have a few picked out. If they are boy and girl I think we will do Everly and Patrick. If it is 2 boys we are thinking Patrick and James and two girls would be Everly and Cecilia. I am trying to keep the names a secret until they are here but I am not a good secret keeper. The only name I think our families will question is Everly because it is different and doesn't have a family connection.

@wifeinraleigh28 - your announcement is adorable!
alaaronson - I am in the same situation with coats. I don't know what to do because I hate spending so much money on a coat I will only wear one year. I haven't found a solution yet. I have asked DH to buy me one for Christmas so I don't have the buyers guilt.

  • @kelrauh I hope your doctor can let you know if your weight gain (or lack thereof) is okay, but I am going through the same thing (although with a singleton). The same thing happened during my last pregnancy - I got leaner everywhere, but my belly grew. I'm almost 20w now and have only gained about 2-3 lbs (nausea sucks), but baby was measuring ahead at my a/s last week. Last time and this time my doctors haven't had any problem with my weight gain, even though it seemed to be on the lower end of the spectrum. Hopefully your situation will be similar! :)

  • @BlueEyedDreamer - I would have never expected to not gain weight with pregnancy. She told me at my last appointment to eat all high fat foods, which I have but I get full too easy. Once I get full I cant eat more because I get nauseated. It is noticeable that I am slimming everywhere except my bump. I go back and forth between 2-5lbs of weight gain. I had lost weight when I went in a month ago so hopefully when I go in tomorrow I am on the heavier end.

  • @kelrauh I'm the same way! I am trying to eat small, high-calorie meals, but nausea comes on fast. Until a few weeks ago, I was down from my pre-pregnancy weight, too. I have a cousin who went through her whole pregnancy and gained less than pounds. She started out with some weight to lose and struggled with nausea throughout the pregnancy, so her case was a little unique. But just know that "normal" is different for everyone! I'm sure your doc will keep you on the right track.

@kelrauh If you're feeling them, that would be amazing! I know the usual is at least 18 weeks, so feeling them at 16 would be awesome! Love the names, other than Everly, but only because DH worked on a movie with that name and it was super duper weird/violent/bloody. I hope you get good news weight-wise at your appointment tomorrow!

I had never heard of the movie Everly. We were listening to the Everly brothers and I randomly came up with the name and it turns out that it is more common than I thought.

  • I am so shocked and saddened to hear about Halips, thank you for letting us know. After all the pain of IF it feels so horribly unfair to go through such a late loss as well. She, and her little Evangeline, will be in my thoughts.

I'm 19 weeks and had my anatomy ultrasound a few days ago--I had been worried it would be a little too early to see everything properly but it wasn't a problem; everything looked good and healthy, luckily. The baby refused to get into a proper profile position: it was fine for diagnostic purposes but not for ~preshus lil' photos~ to share; they all look like weird blobs!

My nausea has pretty much cleared up, finally, and has given way to spectacular heartburn. I have an appointment today and will see about getting something prescription strength, because I'm tired of feeling like I'm swallowing knives that are dipped in acid and also on fire.

QOTW: Sigh, my husband was also kind of uncooperative, but in a different way. I had pictured we would talk and brainstorm and dream for months and months and not really have a solid name until pretty late in the game, but at like 7 weeks we chatted about names and found some we liked and he was like OK WE'RE DONE HERE and won't discuss it any further because "we already chose names and WE ARE EFFICIENT."

Our one neurosis about the baby's names is that we're keeping them in a vault between the two of us: I felt like this pregnancy has been such an open book because of my commitment to honesty regarding IF and IVF, which then necessarily included very early announcing that this cycle had worked. There hasn't been anything that we felt was private between my husband and me, so it's been nice to have this sweet little secret just for us. Once we announced it was a girl my family has had a lot of fun throwing out names semi-seriously, and have come DANGEROUSLY CLOSE to guessing (in fact, someone already suggested the first name, along with a second name identical in initial and syllabic structure to the middle name), but they haven't bugged me to tell them for sure. HOWEVER my husband's step mom, whom I've spoken to like 4 times in my life, is weirdly obsessed with finding out and has complained to other family members about my unwillingness to share. Chill out, lady.
  • @cato99 I'm glad to hear that your AS went so well! I had mine at 15 and 16 weeks, so 19 definitely isn't too early! I hear ya about babies not getting into good positions for photos. Last time we only got 1 good one and 1 okay one, and I have a feeling tomorrow we may not get any :( I bet you're excited to have your nausea cleared up, but alas, heartburn is awful! I hope your doc can help you out! I've personally found that taking one Zantac 75 is super helpful and makes my heartburn pretty much go away. Lol about your DH and name picking. I can just imagine the tone of voice you were going for with the caps! I wholeheartedly agree with not telling your families until after baby is born. I don't mind sharing here since none of y'all know me IRL, but I won't tell anyone who comes up to me and asks!

  • Hi Everyone!

It's funny reading how everyone's DHs react to naming. Mine did the same... was not very cooperative, and then once HE wanted to discuss names, we had them picked out - done, end of story. I like talking about names and toying around with different ones... but not him. I think it stresses them out. Men just want to check the box and move on.

@halips I'm so incredibly sorry to hear about your sweet baby girl. I hope you are able to grieve in peace. Lots of prayers for you and your family.

QOTW: We have names picked out, but are keeping them to ourselves... trying not to get commentary from everyone about them. And I always find it's awkward when someone tells you their baby names... idk how I'm supposed to respond, and it feels fake and forced. Soooo... it's a secret! We aren't finding out the sex, so we have 2 picked out. I still want to try to weasel in a name that DH shot down - Maren (girl). I will probably have little success bc apparently we are in a naming freeze... *eyeroll*.

  • @alaaronson You just made me laugh so hard at your mom's comments about the serial killer names. Wow! I support your decision to not share your name ideas with her anymore!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a nerdy DH  It's looking like our sex reveal party is going to be Star Wars themed as well: Jedi or Princess cake with Luke and Leia pins that our guests will wear to display their guess. Oh boy!

I am devastated to hear the news about @halips. Thank you for telling us @AandDM2014. What a nightmare and I can't even imagine. I'm getting all weepy and tense just thinking about it

I'm so sick right now. I have fluid in my lungs, a sore throat, can't speak, and body aches and pains everywhere. I called my OB to ask the advice nurse if I should be seen or not, and she told me what medications I can take and told me to see my PCP if my symptoms don't improve soon. Ugh. Being sick while pregnant is horrible, but it's even worse when it happens your first week at a new job! I can't even...

@wifeinraleigh28 Oh yikes, I'm sorry you're feeling so bad! It sucks that pregnant ladies can take basically nothing to help us feel better. I do hope you improve soon!

  • Welcome @MelD17011 and @beckij34 !
@AandDM2014 thank you for letting us know @ halips. Heartbreaking.

@kelrauh I didn't gain weight for a while and I was concerned I wasn't eating enough due to nausea, etc. especially when I compared myself to others' bumps, but my OB wasn't concerned and told me the baby takes what it needs.

I don't have any appointments until my glucose test in about 3 weeks. There is a lot going on right now with the holidays and like others have mentioned I am having to add to my winter wardrobe to accommodate my growing bump. I swapped my body pillow for a u-shaped pillow this week and so far it has helped with sleeping. Less flipping and I don't have to be all the way on my side.

QOTW: We've picked our baby's name and already have nicknames for her. We got unsolicited input on our first name choice that kind of ruined it for us. We ultimately decided against it because it's common, but learned to not share our second baby name pick. I think someone on here said that once people meet the baby, the name will fit and knowing that it is a done deal they are less likely to criticize it (in front of us  :D). We don't have a middle name yet.

Has anyone started kick counts or downloaded an app? I'm supposed to start week 28, but I want to practice and see if she's really getting less active or if I'm just used to it. Kickme looks like the most popular app.

  • Thank you @AandDM2014. I ended up going to my PCP for a flu test and it was negative, so it looks like I have your "common cold." My doctor said some colds right now are lasting 2 weeks + and making people very miserable. Great. Went to the pharmacy and picked up some weak cough drops (that don't have menthol in them) and some robitussin.

    Welcome @MelD17011 and @beckij34 !

Hope you feel better quicker than 2weeks @wifeinraleigh28, colds suck! DH was just sick and so far (*knock on wood) I haven't caught it but it is going around my work like wildfire so it is only a matter of time I suspect.

@cato99 glad your anatomy scan went well!!!

@mrygoround I haven't started a kick count yet, but glad you mentioned it, I had a regular appointment today (and it wasn't mentioned) and next is in 4 wks and I will be 30wks at that time, so good to know that I should start counting at 28weeks!

  • We had an appointment today. Unfortunately it was running WAY late, so DH had to leave before we got in because we had a house showing we needed to be home for (and of course they were way late, and I was home before they got there, so URGH). Anyway, babies were looking great. They are measuring in at 1 pound 1, 2, and 4 ounces! I have 3 pounds, 7 ounces of baby in me! So exciting. My doc also said that, weight wise, they'd probably be okay if they had to be born, so there is an anxiety lifted off my shoulders! I got video of them that we plan to share on Christmas Eve or Day, once I've reached 24 weeks!

  • @2legbaby My OB wasn't clear on how and why to kick count, but there is info online for how to do it and some people start as early as 26 weeks. I plan to count for about 30 min every day when I lie down for the night. After I said the baby wasn't as active lately, yesterday was one of the most active days. DH felt and saw movement for the 2nd or 3rd time in 1.5 months. I had a dream last night that we could distinctly see her full hand stretching my skin like she was reaching out to high five us. :D I only see 3 apps available on my phone and they are free so I could just try them all, but Kickme has the best ratings and most downloads. If you get started let me know how it goes!

@AandDM2014 Good to hear your doctor thinks they'd be okay if you delivered this early. Of course we hope not, but still a big milestone.

  • I went to the OB yesterday. Nothing too exciting except seeing our little nuggets. The doctor couldn't believe that they both were still hanging out so low and haven't spread out. They were directly on top of one another, so she couldn't see them very good with the mobile ultrasound. Both had good heartbeats and seemed content snuggling with each other. I was thinking that I was feeling one move, but we now think I am feeling both of them move as they are both right where I thought I was feeling them. I am anxiously awaiting our anatomy scan in 2 weeks to find out the genders. My husband is now feeling two girls when I am still feeling boy and girl.  I feel so blessed and excited!
