Pregnant after IF

Trimester Dating Question

Yesterday at my appointment the nurse said I would continue all my meds through January 11th and, at that point, I'd be considered out of my 1st tri. However, that will put me at 12 weeks. I'm curious what your REs consensus is - 12 vs 14 weeks? I know there is a difference between trimester stages. My due date calculator has 2nd tri starting on 1/8 (developmental), 1/18 (gestational) and 1/27 (conception).

Re: Trimester Dating Question

  • My RE didn't ever talk to me about that as I stopped all meds by 10 weeks, but I go by 14 weeks before second tri and 28 weeks before third tri.

  • 1st trimester is through the end of week 13
2nd is weeks 14 through end of 27
    3rd is 28 weeks onward

Here's a helpful chart that lists trimesters and weeks/months pregnant. It irks me when someone says they are 6 months along but only 24 weeks pregnant because they divide months by 4 weeks. Not every month is exactly 4 weeks though.

Agreed with the PPs. If you do the math and divide 40 weeks by 3, each trimester is technically 13.3333333333 weeks. Some of my apps welcomed me to 2nd tri when I hit 13 weeks, others waited until 14 weeks. Either way, you are in undebated 2nd trimester territory at 14 weeks and 3rd trimester at 28 weeks.

My RE and OB both agreed on having me stop my meds at 10 weeks. You can actually stop at 8 weeks, the added 2 weeks is just a precaution. By 8 weeks, your placenta takes over and there's no more need for progesterone supplements.

  • Thanks, ladies! I had always heard to wait until week 14 to 'announce' so I was confused when she said to take meds through 1/11 and the was the end of my first tri.

  • I'm also stopping meds at week 10 but I started cutting down from week 8.

Where I live everyone has a free 12 week scan and if that goes well it's normally considered safe enough to announce.
