This post reminded me I haven't taken folate in three weeks. Oops. Second pregnancy so much more distracted than last time. I've never taken the gummies but I have heard they are less likely to make you gag, a lot of my mates use them instead of tablets. All the best.
I use the First Response prenatal gummies! I was taking the capsules beforehand and they made me sick- regardless of whether or not I took them in the morning or at night. The gummies are great! 45 day supply is usually 12-14$ depending on if you can catch it on sale or not
I've always taken New Chapter Perfect Prenatal vitamins... you have to take 3, so if taking pills is hard due to gag reflux... it can be tough, but it isn't a huge single horse pill like other brands. The reason I like this one so much is that it doesn't upset my stomach like most general multi and other prenatal vitamins do... also, the flavor of the gummies makes me gag, I've tried multiple ones, even Rx, and just can't get them down.
I had been taken pills but just bought gummies today. Bought CVS brand and the value size was buy one get one free! There was also a $3 coupon to use on them as well! I always love a good deal!
I've taken women's one a day and nature's way brands. I prefer just one pill, even if it's large. I've never had nausea with any of them, but I've also made sure to only ever take them with a meal and after eating half to 3/4 of the meal first. Pills on an empty stomach is a recipe for nausea and/or stomach pains, whether you're pregnant or not. I made the mistake of taking vitamin C on an empty stomach once long before I was pregnant, and I felt horrid for several hours.
I take the Target generic brand (up and up) pills. been using them for years bc my obgyn suggests that all women of child bearing age use prenatals rather than regular multivitamins. take them at night before bed and have never had a problem with them. it's just one a day.
I'm on the Walgreen's generic prenatals. They're large, but it's just once a day and they're gel caps which is easier for me than dry pills. I think I ended up on those because my doctor wrote a generic prescription when I told her we planned to TTC in the next year, so my insurance covers them 100%.
My new doctor's office gave me samples of Vitafol Ultra and Vitafol gummies in my welcome bag as well as something else I can't remember. I liked the gummies and appreciated that they actually had iron (something most gummies don't seem to have) but they still have less of certain components than my current pills do or else I would ask my midwife for a new prescription because they didn't aggravate my heartburn as much as my current pill.
Thorne is one of the better brands out there - for all types of vitamins/supplements. Many of the "mainstream" brands have lots of fillers and additives that your system can't process so you just pretty much flush it out when you go to the bathroom.
Thorne prenatals also have a higher level of folate -- 1,000 mcg vs. other brands that usually have 800 mcg as the max. At my first appt. with my midwives I showed her the Thorne prenatal bottle and in looking at the ingredient/nutrition panel, she remarked that it was the best she'd seen.
I take Garden of Life's multi because I'm a vitamin snob. After years of working for a manufacturer I learned a lot about what goes into vitamins and I just can't justify putting that crap in my body. I'm hard enough on my body so I figure the least I can do is take a high quality vitamin.
I have been taking 2 Flintstones vitamins a day, that's what my doctor recommended when I said I was gagging on the pills. I'll continue that until I feel less queasy.
I take Pregvit vitamins. A pink tablet in the morning two hours after breakfast and a blue one during supper. It has something to do with the iron VS calcium absorption...
I go with whatever's on sale I've taken First Response, One a Day, Nature Made and the Target brand gummies. I usually buy a bottle of gummies and a bottle of regular pills so I have options based on what I can keep down
i take rainbow light prenatal one because it is what i took during my first pregnancy. i might switch to new chapter prenatal when i run out. who knows.
i also take 2 new chapter wholemega fish oil pills a day, 2 NOW foods vitamin D3 1000iu capsules, and 2 vitafusion D3 1000iu gummies (i have a vitamin D deficiency and am on an increased dose by doctor's orders).
@ViviEli thanks for looking out, but I just checked my Flintstones and each has 400 much folic acid, so the dr recommendation of 2 per day works. I looked for gummies, but couldn't find any with iron, which I definitely need.
Same as silliegirlie143. Garden of Life has the highest ratings by labcorp for quality control and because vitamins are unregulated I felt I needed something trustworthy vs placebo with my terrible first tri eating habits.
Re: Prenatals
@BellaO21 I use the same ones
