Re: 2nd Tri Check In Week of 12/5

  • Good Monday morning ladies! Today I am 21+2 with my three littles, 2 girls and 1 boy. It's still hard to believe that I've made it this far! My EDD is 3/10, though that may change next month when I switch to my birthing MFM and hospital. I have no appointment updates and don't have my next one until 12/14. At that one we'll just be checking to make sure everyone is doing okay. I'm hoping to get a video of the ultrasound to share with everyone at Christmas since it'll be my last appointment until after CD. Also, for the first time ever, on Sunday evening I put my hand on my tummy and felt a baby kick. I took DHs hand and put it there too, and he felt a few as well!!! So cool!!

My news for this week is: our house is being listed today and we will find out on Thursday or Friday if the offer we put on a new one has been accepted or not! I'm excivous (excited-nervous) because I really really love the house, but the other offer on it may be accepted instead, which would suck! If ours is accepted, we'll get to move sometime shortly after January 2nd.

QOTW: The only class that I can sign up for is a breastfeeding basics one, which I need to call to sign up for. I'm doing that today when they open and hoping they have one this month. If not, I'll have to wait until after I go to my new hospital to see what they offer there.

I'm so excited to be here this week! I'm 14 weeks, 2 days today with my baby girl and so far so good. I have round ligament pain now though that is making my daily exercise routine very difficult. It's just walking, but DH and I usually walk about 3 miles every morning and lately it's been pretty painful. I've also developed carpel tunnel (@kelrauh I believe you also posted about this last week, didn't you?) and so now I'm wearing wrist splints to bed so that my hands don't go all numb.

My next appointment isn't until Dec 29th . Last one was last Wednesday and all is well. No ultrasound, just the doppler. I made DH record the heart beat so I can listen to it whenever I want. My next ultrasound actually won't be until Jan 5th (anatomy scan) when we go back to the MFM. Right now all I can do is just be patient and wait I guess.

@AandDM2014 Congrats on feeling the kicking AND on the house stuff! I hope your offer will be accepted. I remember how stressful our house buying experience was so I hope you're able to relax!

QOTW: I'm actually completely clueless about this. Are you supposed to do this in 2nd tri? Thinking I need to bust open all those pamphlets I received at my first OB visit where they talk about this stuff!
    ***BFP & Child Warning***

    IUI #1-3 (Nov 2015, Feb 2016, May 2016) = BFNs

    FET #2 (April 2019) = BFN
    FET #3 (July 2019) = BFP! DS born 3/27/20
  • @wifeinraleigh28 Welcome to the second tri boards! I bet you're excited to make it this far!! I'm sorry that your RLP has made your daily walks painful. That sucks a bunch! Isn't it so weird being a normal pregnant person now and having appointments every 4 weeks, instead of like every other day! I'm glad things looked good at your last appointment. Buying a house is so never fun. We spent almost a year looking at places last time before we found our current house, which was kinda supposed to be our "until first kid starts school" house, but we just don't have the space or family support for three. I think most of the stressful stuff is over with, we just have to wait for it to get listed, then keep it in showing condition (which I admit will be hard as I am crap at cleaning). Per QOTW: there is a little chart on the wall of all the OB/GYN waiting rooms at my hospital saying what they recommend during each trimester, and most of them are in the second one, since babies can be born any time during the third tri and will most likely survive.

  • Hi everyone, I'm 18w 5days today and recovering from my emergency cerclage after I was diagnosed with incompetent cervix last Thursday. A bit freaked out about what happens next, but hoping my check-up with the MFM specialist on Thursday will ease my mind.

@wifeinraleigh28 welcome to the second trimester! I hope your RLP eases up a bit. Don't stress if you haven't done any research on classes yet. I found that only after week 14 did I start feeling relaxed enough to dip my toes into the world of classes. You have enough time to look around.

@AandDM2014 so cool you got to feel the little ones! Can you distinguish which one you feel by which side you feel movement?
I can feel my little girl moving a bit every now and then. The first time I didn't know if it was gas or her moving haha! It's so amazing and reassuring at the same time.
Btw I had to think of you @AandDM2014 when I was in hospital and the nurses came with the Doppler a couple of times, trying to hear if baby's heartbeat was ok. It took them forever to find it! Luckily I had read enough here to know it's not easy to find, so I didn't freak out. Funny thing was, my OB came in and found it within one second! Those nurses must have been fresh out of school...

QOTW: I went to a birthing class with a UK midwife here in Thailand last week. I was quite shocked to find out how much doctors tend to 'meddle' here, meaning unnessecary interventions, medication, injections as well as just wisking you off to surgery when it could take too long :( So I will need to have a serious talk with my OB about what I want.

Are you guys putting together a birth plan?

  • @flanners1 I hope your checkup on Thursday goes well and your MFM lets you know that baby is going to stay put for quite a bit longer! It's kinda hard to tell between B and C since they're like right on top of each other, but A is way off by herself, so I can tell when it's her. I'm pretty sure yesterday was C since I think B is a bit more in the middle, but I don't remember their exact position from last time and it could have easily been B, or both. I'm sorry that it took your nurses so long to find babys heart. That's always super nerve wracking! I've gotten super good at using mine, but I also get scans every two weeks and I know where he's putting the ultrasound wand as it relates to each baby, so it makes it quite a bit easier! That care in Thailand sounds pretty similar to care in the US. Like if you're in labor for more than an hour and haven't made significant progress, they'll give you pitocin to speed things up. They want you in and out so they can make more money!

I plan to make a birth plan, but I have to see my new MFM first, because it'll depend on what their views are. My current one said we could maybe try vaginal (if we stayed with him) because he's done it before and is comfortable with it, but not all docs are. I should meet with my new one in January, so hopefully before February rolls around we'll have a plan. Plus I think by then they're more likely to be closer to their final positions than they are now.

  • Friends! I felt the baby move this morning! It was a very distinctive like kick. I felt him or her for a few minutes before he or she proceeded to settle down on a nerve somehow attached to my back. Ouch! But I felt it!!!

I am 19 weeks today, and besides back pain, I feel good. Next week is our anatomy scan, and I'm so excited to find out what we are having. I'm still leaning towards a girl, but we will be thankful no matter what. As for the qotw, I am planning to do the classes, especially the breastfeeding classes.

@AandDM2014 I hope your house sells in a timely manner. We went through all of that in the spring. I can't imagine trying to move while being pregnant! Sounds like torture!

@wifeinraleigh28 Yay! You made it to the 2nd trimester! So happy to have you here.

@flanners1 I'm glad the cerclage went ok, and I'm glad your doctors were willing to do that for you. I had a friend who needed one, and they refused to do it. It didn't end well at all.

  • @clt2pwm11 Yay for joining the movement club!!!! I too hope our house sells quickly (it should based on previous units in our complex), but first our realtor actually has to list it! I haven't heard from him since I emailed yesterday, so I will have DH call him when he gets up.

  • @aanddm2014 good luck with the buying and selling! We did it two years ago and even though I did all the work dh still tells everyone how horrible it was when it really wasn't that bad haha.

@wifeinraleigh28 welcome to second tri! Hopefully your rlp isn't consistent and you're just having a little growth spurt.

    @flanners1 good luck on Thursday!

@clt2pwm11 so exciting you will be finding out what you're having soon! I applaud you for being patient enough to wait till the 20 week scan.

Afm 22 weeks tomorrow and I have my fetal echo on wed and then a normal on apt on Friday. My a/s was all normal so not worried for wed. I've been feeling movement more but it's still not consistent, mostly at night when I settle down for the day and a little in the morning. I'm excited to start feeling kicks more during the day.

Qotw: babies r us has a breastfeeding class for free. I may register for that or pay the $50 for the one at my hospital. I haven't decided yet. I did register for my hospital tour for next week. With the holidays weeks away and my sister due with her little one in Jan I'm going to be so busy I wanted to get the tour done while I had the time.
  • @ale9687 We bought our place just over 4 years ago, and I was so hoping we had longer before we had to do the process again, but that's how life goes sometimes.

I'm curious about those doing an echo: I asked about it last time, and my doc said because my AS looked good, I don't need to do one. Have your doctors given you a reason, other than you did IVF (which is kinda a bs reason), why they want you to have one?

  • @aanddm2014 I met with two different MFM's and they both said icsi is why they reccomend it. The tech doing our a/s said I see all 4 chambers of the heart but she was even envious of the equipment they'll use for the echo. Honestly if insurance wasn't paying 100% for the scan I prob would've canceled it but I think this might be my last u/s so Im ok doing it.
  • I am 15 weeks and 1 day today today with twins. I am starting to get my energy back. I am able to stay up to see 10:00pm now, which I hadn't before.

A new symptom I am having is a pressure type feeling in my lower pelvis (about 2 inches under belly button). The pressure gets worse the more active I am. It almost feels like there is weight on my bladder. I have had this since Thursday, does anyone else have this feeling? Is it normal?

I am not certain what classes we will take. I think they suggested we take them in February, so we have a little bit of time.

@wifeinraleigh28 - YAY for joining the 2nd Trimester board. I was not the one with the carpel tunnel. I can relate very closely with the round ligament pain as that and hip pain have taken over my life.

@AandDM2014 - I couldn't imagine doing the home buying/selling process right now. We only have a 2 bedroom house right now and we will need to move or add on before too long, but with the cost of daycare I dont know if we can move or add on until these two beans are close to being in school.

Hello everyone! Happy Monday! Welcome 2nd tri newbies. I've been MIA and trying to keep on top of posting when I can.

Here's my update . . . I'm currently at 23 weeks, 6 days. Went to OB a couple of weeks ago and they said that the reason why I haven't been feeling the baby kicking is because my placenta attached in front. Once he's bigger and there is less room to move, I'll start feeling stronger kicks. The boy just can't get enough "ooomph" with his punches and kicks through the placenta right now. Now that I'm reassured, they said I'd start feeling them stronger by the end of the month. Although I felt a huge jab in my ribs the other night which I swear was my little guy. My OB said that I would now deliver at 39 weeks, so my due date has not been solidified, but guessing it will be around March 20.

Fetal Echogram a few weeks ago was so-so. Because of my placement of my placenta, they're having a hard time seeing the baby and he's not that active. So they had me do some lunges, pushed/prodded my belly, I peed and ate some candy. He moved but then moved back to his normal position and stayed there. Now they want me to come back next week for another u/s. I don't mind as it's a chance to see my stubborn little guy.

Today, I see my primary doc. The cold I had last month has not gone away and I have a suspicion that it's a sinus infection. My Father in Law is getting married this weekend, so I'm hoping she'll give me something to kick it for good.

QOTW: I signed my 6 yr old DS and myself up for a sibling preparation class. We go in January. They have story time, he learns to help change a diaper, how to hold a baby, and what to expect when Mom and Dad are caring for the new baby.

With my first son, I took every class (Lamaze, Breastfeeding, and How to care for your baby), and booked them in my 2nd tri, but didn't attend them until my 3rd tri. This time around, I'm not taking any of the classes. I feel like it will all come back to me like a flood.

@ale9687 How strange! I don't understand why doing ICSI would be a reason for needing an echo if it looked good on the AS. Sure it's slightly more detailed, but not by that much (from what I understand). I also have no idea if the embryos we used this time were ICSI or not since half of them weren't...

@pdbird Oh those darn placentas! Attaching wherever they feel like and freaking moms out! That class you signed up for with your DS sounds awesome! I hope he enjoys it and learns a bunch!

  • @AandDM2014 - They told me the same thing for my fetal echo. If you did IVF, they want to look at the fetal heart as there is some sort of complication that can occur with heart. I thought it was strange to and questioned them in the office, but they said those that have done IVF, they have noticed a higher number of heart conditions in the babies and think that IVF plays a role in that. Science . . .

I'm hoping the class is what I imagine it to be. I think my DS has no idea what is coming his way. He thinks they're going to play lego's together the minute the kid comes out of me.

FYI ladies! I've recently had to purchase a couple of dresses for upcoming events and found https://www.pinkblushmaternity.com

I love their dresses and it's reasonably priced. The quality is good as well. I bought 2 chiffon dresses and a jersey knit top to wear to work. Love them all! They have Maternity and Maternity Plus, so that sold me right there!

Just wanted to throw that out there in case any of you are looking to purchase maternity clothes.

  • @pdbird Hmm, how very curious. I think because I get scans more often that my doc doesn't just automatically send me for one. He looks at their hearts every two weeks, and can see if things look okay, and they have every time, so he isn't worried.

  • I will be 18 weeks on Weds, and I'm still patiently waiting to feel my little one move.  Not that patiently, actually.....

I'm having lots of dizziness/lightheadedness when I first stand up (all day long!) and when I get overheated and am standing for awhile.  Really not a fan of this, and I'm told it will just get worse for the next month or so.  Working on drinking more fluids (I am sooo bad at this), but that's about all I can do.

We haven't signed up for any classes, and are having a really hard time finding any that pertain to us.  I have no boobs, so I can't breastfeed and those classes are of no use to me.  And, we're having a C section, so the labor classes don't really apply either.  I'd love a 'what to expect when you're having a C section', because a friend of ours (who delivered at a different hospital and had midwives instead of an OB), had that covered in one of her myriad of teaching sessions.  They went into things like what music do you want played in the OR and do you want a mirror to see over the drape, skin to skin, delayed cord clamping, etc.  I haven't found anything like that at all (her class had the C section as part of a bigger class on birthing in general).  I feel like I'm missing out.  I'll keep looking, though.  I live in a major metropolitan area. Surely there is something out there for me!

  • @kelrauh I felt that pressure on my pelvis as well and it got worse when I was more active (walking a lot and working late in office) - it turned out to be an incompetent cervix. The first check I had, length was 3.5 cm which was still ok, but a week later I was at 2.4. Best get it checked. Maybe it's nothing, but given you also have twins to carry, you want to be sure because the weight is more of course.

@PNW12RN  I also wouldn't mind a c section class. They seem to always skip that and focus so much on natural. Are you electing one or is it medically necessary?

@clt2pwm11 yay on feeling the little one! You must be so excited to find out if it's a boy or girl. Keep us posted.

@ale9687 and @AandDM2014 I also got an echo last week - I think it was mainly to get some additional $$$ from us. No one mentioned anything about ICSI. It was not cheap but the machine also had a 3D or 4D function so we saw baby girl's face in 3D and saw her super prominent nose (def my nose haha!). It was a bit early to make out other features -  they usually wait until 22 weeks for this - but it was still just wow!

  • @flanners1 - thank you for the response. It is a strange feeling. I called my OB this morning, and now I am waiting to hear if they want me to come in. I was talking to my DH last night and we decided I should call this morning because if something happened I would hate for it to be preventable and I just didn't call because I thought I was over analyzing.

@AandDM2014 Thank you!! I'm so glad you'll be closer to family and have the support that you're going to need with 3 little ones! And yeah, it's so nerve racking having appointments every 4 weeks! I got lucky last month because my first MFM appointment (with ultrasound) was scheduled just 2 weeks after my initial OB visit. So I ended up only having to wait 2 weeks in between appointments for awhile. I'm not so lucky anymore :( As for the echo, mine is already scheduled and the only reason my MFM is recommending it is because of IVF. Our insurance is covering it and it will be another ultrasound so I'm fine with it. It is also my understanding that if they detect problems there are treatments available so I'm cool with getting that additional information or (most likely) reassurance.

@flanners1 Hope all goes well at your appointment on Thursday and I hope your cervix issues are taken care of. Yay modern medicine! At what point do people usually start putting together a birth plan and what does that even consist of? I have so much to learn...

@pdbird I hope you start to feel some good kicks soon! What a wonderful idea to take that sibling preparation class! Didn't even know they had those :)

  • Hi, everyone! I'm 18w4d today. I just got back from my a/s with the MFM, and it went really well. We brought DS with us, and he was so excited to see his baby brother! It was a huge relief overall, and I feel like I am now starting to really get excited about this pregnancy.

Maybe I'm just super sensitive, but I've been feeling the baby move since about 13.5 weeks! I think it's easier to tell with a second pregnancy b/c I didn't feel kicks with DS until about 17 weeks. But this time around, I feel him moving and kicking consistently through the day and especially at night. DH even felt some strong kicks with his hand the other night. I've got a pretty active little dude in there, I guess!

I don't think we will be doing any classes this time around. With DS, we did an infant CPR class and a hospital orientation - both were very helpful. I also read a lot of books.

@AandDM2014 I asked our MFM about the fetal echo today, because that will be our next appt with him. They said it is recommended across the board for IVF pregnancies due to some studies (which he admitted may be somewhat flawed) that show increased risk of heart abnormalities for IVF babies. He said specifically the studies may be flawed b/c parents of IVF babies may have underlying health/risk factors (which contributed to IF overall, such as weight and fitness level) that may be leading to increased heart abnormalities. My former OB when I was pregnant with DS (we moved since then - I miss him!) never mentioned having an echo to me. I think it may have been because he ruled DH and I out of these higher risks due to our family history and our overall fitness levels. We had unexplained IF, so no red flags there either. The MFM today said it's just a really enhanced u/s that shows much more detail than the scans we usually get. We have ours scheduled for January around 24 weeks.

  • Love reading everyone's updates as we cruise along!

I am 19 weeks and a few days with a baby girl resulting from IVF/FET #1. We have a 2.5 year old DS who is pretty excited about "baby margaret" which is what he has dubbed this baby. For the uninitiated Baby Margaret is Daniel Tiger's little sister. You will some day know this. We actually had no intention of telling DS so early, but he is super physical and trying to get him to be gentle around my belly was an issue. Other than that, lots of baby movement going on and an Anatomy scan tomorrow to check this baby out.

I don't think we plan on any classes this time around. I actually had DS before we got to do any classes for DS as he was born early. I think we did OK! I'm CPR/choking certified through my job and did the HypnoBirthing book which is what I used for my son's birth. For any ladies hoping to breastfeed I definitely recommend getting any support you can prior to and following birth.
  • @BlueEyedDreamer I'm glad your AS today went well!! Interesting how different doctors do different things! Mine told me a flat out "no" when I asked if I needed to get an echo, so it's not even an option.

@BornReady I hope your AS tomorrow goes awesome!

  • @BornReady My DS is 2.5 years old, too, and he keeps talking about Baby Margaret, too!! We keep telling him it's a baby brother, but he keeps telling us he thinks it's a baby sister, like Daniel Tiger. Hahaha! We try to limit screen time, but watching the episodes about having a new baby in the family has really helped him understand and get excited about being a big brother. He keeps asking me if it's time to go to Dr. Anna's office so that the baby can be born!

Also, the episode about going potty was HUGE in our potty training process, too. After many days of struggle, that episode seemed to make things "click" for him somehow. Craziness. The songs get stuck in your head, but I am grateful for that show when it comes to helping us explain big changes!

  • Welcome to the 2nd trimester @wifeinraleigh28 !

@flanners1 glad you are doing well so far and hope your appointment tomorrow provides you with a solid plan (I think that is the worst about any situation is not knowing what to expect next!)

@clt2pwm11 so excited for feeling your first kick!!! Can't wait to hear if he or she is the future soccer star!

@BlueEyedDreamer glad your anatomy scan went well!

I am 23 weeks (tomorrow) with our little girl.We celebrated my 39th (yikes!) bday yesterday and went for my favorite sushi (fully cooked, low mercury fish rolls only!). I still feel pretty good and feel her consistently throughout day and night moving along. I got the wall decal (white birch trees with pink owls) for her nursery and was surprised with the complexity to put it up- it may be quite the project!
Still ***anxiously**** waiting for my appointment next week for my repeat toxoplasmosis titers after my needle stick the other week, trying not to freak out too much, but sometimes it is hard to not go down the road "what if?"
I posted the question about fetal echos the other week on the randoms board, we did both IVF and ICSI. I still plan to ask my OB about this, but seems as though OBs fall on one side or the other. The risks are very slightly more than natural pregnancies and they don't do echos on all the "lucky" ladies so I can definitely see both sides of this.

QOTW: we have signed up for classes but I will be in my third when they happen-birthing class (two parter), child care class (how to bathe, swaddle and all that fun stuff), hospital tour and the offer a free online breast feeding course (if it is a link I can share I will post for any ladies interested to use). My daycare does free child CPR classes so we will take the infant CPR with them before she gets here!

  • Hi everyone! I've been taking a break from the bump...totally exhausted from 12 weeks until now - it was all I could do to get through a workday. But now feeling a lot more energetic (which still means I want a nap) at 21 weeks today! Due date is 4/19/17 with di/di twin girls, but they say we will deliver around 38 weeks.  We had our anatomy scan this week and so far girls look great :-)

  • Quick update from my doc's visit yesterday: my cerclage looks great, my cervix actually grew from 2.4 to 3.5cm again, and baby is busy boxing and dancing around inside - completely oblivious to all the drama!

But the doctor still wants me to work from home (don't mind that) and take it easy. Sadly it looks like she does not agree to let me fly home to Switzerland for Xmas. I burst into tears there and then, thinking of not seeing my family and meeting my nephew for the first time - he was born in August, just the day after my FET so I haven't been able to see him yet. I know it's silly, and obviously the lil' one comes first and I will do whatever it takes to make sure she is safe, but it's tough to be so far from the family in these moments...
We are also not allowed any sex, and no swimming or baths because it could cause infection. Sigh!

Now I am hunting the internet for last minute christmas deals at the beach! At least I should be allowed to sip a pineapple juice under a palm tree if I can't get xmas in the snow haha.

@2legbaby I hope your test comes back ok.

  • Welcome @wifeinraleigh28!

@2legbaby I really hope the toxoplasmosis titers are clear. I too wish we could live in a protective bubble.

@flanners1 Welcome to the pelvic rest club. :|  I'm glad to hear cervix has actually lengthened already. I'm so sorry this changes your plans. A beach at Christmas time sounds wonderful though.

Yay for all of the first kicks, even if DH doesn't realize how mesmerizing they are!  ;) I felt my first kicks at almost 21 weeks.

I had my echocardiogram this week and like others have said it was recommended because of ICSI, but also because during the anatomy scan baby wasn't very cooperative for heart images. The echo was over an hour long and in addition to images and on-screen measurements of the heart like the anatomy scan, they spend a lot of that time getting rates (graphs and numbers) for blood flow at every chamber, entrance and exit. DH and I are healthy with no other risk factors, but it was nice to get the reassurance that baby's heart is okay.

QOTW: We are taking a free hospital tour next week and then we will take a 9 hour comprehensive class that includes a tour during 3rd tri, and a breast feeding class.

  • Hi! I will be 17 weeks tomorrow with a little girl. I had a check-up with my OB and unfortunately I have to switch to someone else because they don't want to be liable if something happens to me :( Basically I had a hard time getting pregnant due to non-classic CAH (adrenal gland issue that messes up your hormones- similar symptoms to PCOS) and even though every doctor I have seen in the past year has told me I should have no issues once I am pregnant (since my husband does not carry the gene), the OB group I am with is sketched out. SO I now have to meet with a specialist 45 minutes away for a consult (which I did before I became pregnant) and do a more advanced anatomy scan at 19 weeks. I was super irritated because my current OB has been my primary care doctor for almost 15 years and I feel really comfortable with her. I am hoping I can get more of an explanation as to why I am high risk and possibly fight their decison. I have felt fine so far in my pregnancy and she keeps telling me, "I anticipate you will have no problems". Trying to not let this get me down. Ultimately, I want to the best care for myself and my little girl so if that's what I have to do, then I will do it. End of rant!

@marissy8 that is really unfortunate about having to change OBs and to have to travel so far away!!! You have every right to rant, but to be honest, if they are telling you they don't want to be "liable" for you, the truth may be that they feel uncomfortable handling your care and I wouldn't fight them on that- if they are not comfortable in co-managing your adrenal disease and pregnancy it will be better for you and baby to find someone who is comfortable
