What is on your todo list before baby comes?

Ever so often I'm like "oh I gotta get that done before baby comes". It's to early to start yet but I've started my list. What's on yours?

Mine so far is clean the infant car seat, wash infant clothes, resanitize bottles? and take a weekend away with dh, oh maybe get a gift from baby to ds but what...

We have to paint the guest room that will be the baby's room and clean out the closet, add shelves to our laundry room, move the furniture from my moms house to here for the baby. Once we find out what we're having then I can figure out what baby stuff I have left from DD that can be reused.  Our car seat is expired so we need a new one of those.

We have to upgrade 4yo to a twin bed so his bed can go back into a crib. Also need another infant seat and high chair as we JUST sold both at a garage sale this summer. Also need another playpen as our other one was converted into a text/reading area for our toddlers.

We have to relocate the guest room to the main floor former office (which was relocated to the basement bedroom).  Still deciding if we are going to move DS to the other bedroom or leave him in his current one.  I want him to move because the other room is bigger but I'm also hoping to transition him from the crib before the new baby comes and worry it's too much change.  Probably way overthinking this but at the moment make a damn decision is at the top of my to-do list.

    1. Graduate school. Me and H are in graduate school. So he graduates in May and hopefully will have a job secured by then. I will be finished everything except my thesis by my due date.

    2. Rearrange our bedroom so that we can put a crib there.

    3. Buy H a new car.

    4. Buy all of the baby supplies.

@morgarita My list is pretty much the same as yours!  I also need a new crib and dresser set since DD is still in hers and a double stroller.

We have zero baby stuff from DD, and we are moving in March- so we are pretty much at square zero. But at least that gives us a blank canvas for the nursery.

We moved over the summer, and the new baby room became the dumping ground because we hadn't officially started TTCing. So now it has to be totally emptied.

    I have two things:
1.) Research and purchase a double jogging stroller.
2.) Figure out bedroom arrangements. I currently have three daughters. The two older girls (8 and 4) share a bedroom. My youngest is 14 months and I don't want to have her share a room with a newborn. We have a finished basement that we can convert into a room for my older girls, or we can have the 14 month old move into the older girls' room with them. I don't love either option though. Sigh.

    1) Stop nursing and sleep train my 13m old (dreading the sleep training but it really has to be done, he is a terrible sleeper and I just can't imagine being up with him this much and have a new baby)
    2) Go through the room for the new baby and purge.  It's so packed full of shit.
    3) Get a new truck that can fit 2 rear facing car seats.
    4) Convince my parents to move closer
5)Pack a lot of fun activities in while it's just the 3 of us...

    1) clean out the garage
    2) build a little guesthouse in the back (we live in a tiny 2bd/1ba home with a big yard and want to get it up before a second baby comes so family can stay with us for as long as possible... and then Airbnb it out when it's not occupied)
    3) I forgot - baby stuff. We don't have anything left over from our first but for whatever reason I'm like - ehhhh as long as we have diapers, some coconut oil, a cosleeper, and the right car seat and stroller adapter, I'm fine. And seriously this is so unlike my first pregnancy where I had spreadsheets of stuff.

@MrsN092714 we bought a f150 xlt it's the only thing we found to have a big enough backseat that we didn't have to have our knees in our chests in the front. We were looking for an SUV but couldn't find one. Our friend also has a Mercedes ML that they fit rear facing as well but not as good.

We have to renovate our whole house, including installing a new kitchen, dry walling and painting babies room, and moving pretty much every piece of furniture in the house. Plus we never properly unpacked from moving here, and I have to go through just about everything, but I have zero energy lol.

This! This is my biggest thought right now. We just bought a Full size bed for dd to switch to this summer but I'm trying to decide if we switch bedrooms too. I'm worried it's too much change and I like the way her room is decorated, but the other room is bigger.

Clean out the room designated as the nursery. It's our first baby so we have a lot of purchases to make!

We moved in August so need to finish setting up our living room - which includes things like buy a tv.

For the baby, I guess it depends if it's a boy (in which case we have everything) or a girl (in which case I will start slowly acquiring clothes). Either way, we need a bassinet, baby bathtub and bouncy chair. Need to figure out a new stroller, too.

We moved when DS was 7 weeks old, so I am feeling so much more relaxed this time around! And it was also such a good lesson in realizing babies don't actually need all that much.

    Planning is so fun, though!

This is our first baby, so we are pretty much starting from scratch in the purchases department. Car seat, crib, diapers, we need it all.

The biggest "to-do" will be getting the nursery ready - it's currently our office. But first, we need to get a full (currently unfinished) attic renovation done so we can move the office upstairs. I'm a little terrified since it's currently all open studs and insulation, but we have a few carpenters, woodworkers and electricians in the family so I'm sure it won't be as bad as I think!

@RunRestRepeat we also are converting my office into the nursery. You are so lucky to have people in the family that can undertake renovations in your attic. So jealous!

After the holidays we need to get quotes from contractors for adding a small closet to the nursery. Once that is done, we'll need to paint the walls and buy baby furniture. We bought our house last December so my list of things I would like to get done before the baby is here is a mile long, but other than the nursery those other project aren't necessities.

I have a 12 monthbold sonwe have most of our baby gear already, we just need a double stroller and another crib.

The only thing on myblist really is
    1. purchase an SUV we currently both have cars.
    2. buy more diapers
    3. Get in at least 1 more vacation with my son before adding another little to the family.

@oheliza44 Well, we'll have to see how lucky I am - most of them live 5+ hours away, so it might be more consulting than anything. Or, if time gets away from us, we might just be throwing desks up there among the 2x4s! We just bought our house in April, so I hear you on mile-long project lists!!

Potty training is rough! For night time we made sure to not put DS in any diapers or pull ups, he stayed in his underwear. He hated being wet so after a couple nights of waking up with wet underwear he stopped peeing the bed. Yes it means more laundry but it was worth it to me. Also make sure she goes right before bed and at first we stopped liquids about 45 minutes before he went to bed but now he can drink water before bed and be fine all night.

So many things...the bedroom is the main priority, but would love to finish the others too.

The bedroom we're going to use needs some work -
    - gotta patch the hole in the sheetrock from replacing an outside faucet
    - painting as needed
    - gotta clean it out so we can get baby stuff set up
    - would like to replace the carpet since I'm not sure how bad the mold might be from previous water issues we've fixed... not sure if we'll get to that, but I'll try to take a look at the carpet to figure that out since it's a potential health hazard.
    - Also patching the closet wall area from where we fixed said water issue

We've gotta finish up the outside siding of our house, a project we started LAST summer. Need an electrician to finish the last side. (Replacing the fuse box, adding a generator hook up)

Getting the replacement fan hooked up in the dining room (we've had it for over a year, just been too lazy to do it)

    obtaining a dryer

obtaining a new garbage disposal so our dishwasher will work again

deep clean the rest of the house - ugh I hate cleaning...and my cats don't make it any easier

Also, in the spring, we were already planning on going on a long trip for our 10th anniversary (3 weeks) - so that'll be fun/stressful too. (The boss is going to love me lol). Luckily I've got a LOT of PTO saved up so even with that, I can still take 3 months paid and have some left over for the end of next year (hopefully).

@ThePecks ok your list made me feel better. I was hoping to get some ideas of stuff I could get done early or so I don't forget until baby comes but I definitely do not have as much as you or most people here.
  • Options
@ThePecks lol, we need a dryer, too. It was literally one of the very first things DH said when I showed him the BFP. "Wow...I guess we definitely need a dryer now." I will never be able to think of dryers without remembering that moment!

Oh boy - my head is swirling with all the to-do's! My list (so far):

    1. Convert the guest room/office into a nursery/guest room. DH's clothes are also in there so we're going to have to figure out what to do there....uh oh.....

    2. Finishing all my home decor projects - there's pretty much something in every room of the apartment. Definitely want to feel like the place is "done" before baby comes.

    3. Buy a new SUV (never bought a car before! been using my dad's old one forever so this one's exciting)

    4. Plan a bunch of fun things/trips before baby comes! (trip for DH's 35th bday, baby moon, ladies weekend, etc.)

    5. Put together a registry for baby shower - don't know the first thing and need to keep the list very strategic for city living, so I have a lot of research to do!

It's kind of overwhelming, but also exciting so I'm looking forward to diving in!

We've already planned to do most of the stuff on the list within 6 months so now being pregnant just makes me and DH stick to our timeline.

    1. Get our CC's paid off from when DH got laid off

    2. Move out of our house now and into my in-laws (happening next week, I somehow always end up moving while pregnant and it's miserable!)

    3. Find a house and buy it before this baby makes his/her appearance

    4. Get my 3 year old out of my damn bed.

    5. Possibly potty train DD but we might wait until after the baby to do that just depends on living situation and all that. I don't want her to go through too many changes all at once and end up regressing
