Who has a cold/flu? I'm taking the approach that my husband normally takes so basically I'm dying. I got robitussion, Vicks, and Tylenol cold &a head at the grocery store tonight. The only one I'm curious on is the Tylenol cold & head. Anyone know if I can take that?
@Taylor72 Yes! I had a cold a few weeks ago (ok its been about a month now) and dr said I could use anything that did not have ibuprofen. So Tylenol cold and head is good to use.
@Taylor72 I've been pretty sick with a chest cold for almost a week. I have taken tylenol cold severe and tylenol cold multi-symptom. Thank God I just learned I could take it, I was suffering way worse without taking anything. I would assume cold and head is just fine
Has anyone tried the maternity/nursing brand Envie de Fraise? They are on zulily right now. A bit pricier than I ever spend on myself but they are super cute! I like things that are nursing too.

I just got over a cold. My doctor said plain/regular Mucinex, Robitussen, and Sudafed were ok and Tylenol if I felt like I needed it. Let me tell you, taking the plain Mucinex helped because it was better than nothing but I miss the good stuff lol. It just hung around longer than usual which was annoying.
I've had a cold, an upper respiratory infection, and bronchitis already so far. UGH. (I'm a teacher of 6 and 7 year old little germ monsters lol) My OB prescribed a zpack for both the URI and bronchitis. If I hadn't been severely coughing up green and yellow mucous, I would have just been taking Mucinex. But my OB didn't want it to get even worse. I also have pretty awful allergies that I was not taking anything for until very recently. I'm hoping that being on daily Claritin will help.
I have a terrible cold right now sudeffed is keeping me alive right now. I'm having a tooth pulled on Wednesday so I'm thinking the antibiotics they will give me for that we keep secondary infections away.
Tylenol cold and head along with the raspberry Emergen-C has been my life saver over the last few days. I had a terrible time on Friday and actually called that OSF oncall, the guy was very nice and politely told me I was wasting my time because no one would prescribe anything to a pregnant lady that hasn't been sick for at least 10 days. So I went and got the Tylenol and Emergen-C, by Saturday night I was feeling much better and I have been sleeping like a baby since.
I hope you all feel better! Ive been stuck with a badcold for two weeks now. Coughing up phelgm and the whole nine. Im on the z pack now. Cant wait to feel better.
I hate that I see all of you sick as well but selfishly it makes me feel better because I have felt all alone and like I was losing my mind. I had a horrible chest cold for going on two weeks including a fever that would not go away. I ended up going to the hospital where they just told me to take tylenol and rest. Went back to the doctor they gave me a zpac for pneumonia. Over the last three days I have been covered in hives and I'm taking some steroids. Now of course I'm paranoid about all the medicine I'm taking. I keep telling myself that the doctor would stop me if it was going to hurt the baby but I'm still paranoid. How are you all keeping your sanity while being sick?
@aboxofchocolates sanity? What's that? I have no more sanity left. I went from the flu to a cold. My body hates me. Hopefully baby brother is doing ok in there though...
Sort of a random question but looking for anyone with previous experience - Anyone gone on a long trip via chartered bus (we're talking 10+ hours here) while pregnant? DH is going to a college bowl game in Florida with the marching band over New Year's, and I'd be going for sure if not for my worries about the bus ride. Going there the trip will be overnight so I'll be trying to sleep. My head is saying it's not a good idea, but FOMO (fear of missing out) is strong!!
@schef070911 I'd ask your OB just to be sure. I took a couple of long flights (6-7) hours during my last pregnancy, and my OB wanted me to wear those super sexy compression stockings and get up and walk every hour or so. The primary concern was formation of blood clots due to lack of circulation (more common during pregnancy than normal since you have increased blood flow). Assuming that would still be the primary concern, you'd probably just need to get up and walk/stretch your legs periodically. Sleep wise you'd probably be best to have your feet elevated, but again, I can't say for sure.
@schef070911 Do the trip! Bowl games are awesome! We took a trip over Thanksgiving, only about 4 hours, and the OB told me to make sure and stretch or walk every few hours. He said the same about risk for clots. Also, he gave me an envelope with pertinent info about me and my pregnancy to take in my luggage. This way if I needed any emergency care, I would have something to hand to the Drs on call. You could ask your office for some printouts.
@SnarkasaurusRex@jennielynn+ Thanks! I think I'm going to do it. Found out I'll be able to stretch out and keep my legs elevated while sleeping on the bus so that helps a lot. I am going to check with my OB to be sure though. I'm flying this week and she had no problems with that, but this is quite a bit longer than my flight!
Has anyone tried the H&M brand nursing tanks before? I'll basically be living in tanks once baby comes for easy nursing and because April is already hot in Arizona, but are they too good to be true? They're 2 for $30 vs I paid $20 each for my Target ones.
@schef070911 not to scare you, but I would look up hospitals with NICUs in the area you are staying, just to be safe. I went out of town when 26 weeks with DD and had a pre-term labor scare. I was so early, it never once occurred to me to have that info handy (didn't end up needing it and everything was ok, but we would have felt better having it on hand. Luckily, our midwife called around and figured it out for us). I'm guessing you're headed to a city, but still can't hurt.

Is there anyone else who has had some scary/irrational dreams? I had one last night, and it's bothering me so much, I think I need to get it out.
I went into labor (full term, no issues with that part) and had an unmedicated birth. I knew I kinda blanked out, but when I woke up, I was so excited that the pain wasn't as bad as my induction. Turns out, I had been out like 3 days because my brain started bleeding and they had me in ICU or something. No one was really freaked out, and I was okay at that point, but I was like WTF I ALMOST DIED?? And because I had been out like 3 days, I was stressed out that I wasn't going to be able to BF my LO.
When I woke up, I had a horrible crick in my neck. I'm hoping it was just the pain from sleeping weird that made me have such a bad dream.
@Magheeta ugh that's terrifying. You're not alone though. My pregnancy dreams have ranged from horrific to murderous to wildly inappropriate to just plain weird. Far more vivid than anything I've dreamed pre-pregnancy. It's the worst.
Re all this cold talk: I travel by air quite a bit and I carry clorox wipes with me and wipe down the seat, armrests, tray tables, etc., as soon as we get on the plane. I look like a bit of a hypochondriac but since I started doing it, I have cut down on my travel induced colds quite a bit. Just a tip if you are traveling this holiday season!
@Magheeta Your dream is nightmarish to even read about let alone being trapped in that reality while sleeping. I'm glad you're able to release that negativity here and hopefully feel better.
I hope all of you ladies, under the weather, get relief soon!
Anyone worried about leaving their LOs while at the hospital?
I wasn't worried at first bc she is excited about her brother and keeps telling me she's staying with my parents.. we lived in my parents MIL apartment while our house was being worked on and has asked to stay over a few times and done great.
Now all of a sudden she wants to come home from my parents.. and will only let me do routine and put her to bed. After stories she falls asleep in less than 5 minutes for me. My husband has tried when I'm not home and ends up calling me bc he can't get her to sleep
How are you feeling @aboxofchocolates? I finished my Zpak on Saturday. Called the dr. this morning and asked if there was anything else I could do do because I'm still congested. He told me to stay on the holistic route and that the Zpak should linger in my body another 5 days. He said if I still feel bad next week to call him again. FML.... so over this cold. It's 3 weeks today!
@HappyAnjel I'm not so much worried about my kids spending the night somewhere else because they are pretty open to spending the night at grandma's house. But I'm more worried that it will happen in the middle of the night and we can not get a hold of anybody or on a weeknight when they have to go to school the next day. With DS, my MIL had a party at her house on a Saturday. I wasn't feeling super great the entire day and by that night I begged DH to go home. We left the kids at my MILs because they wanted to stay the night with their cousins and I'm glad they did. The next morning at 4am I woke up in incredible pain and knew it was time to go to the hospital.
I am also not too worried about having DS stay with my parents when the time comes. We are actually moving in with them soon to bridge the gap between selling our house and moving into our new home. The new home is scheduled to be done very close to my due date, so we may still actually be at my parents. If we aren't still there I am a bit concerned that I will go into labor in the middle of the night and have to drag my parents out of bed to come over. Which brings me to my next concern...I went to the hospital twice with DS before it was actually the real deal. I was having regular contractions fairly close together for over a week before I was in "active labor". So I really would hate to call them over for that many false alarms!
schef070911 I know I'm going against the crowd here, but there's no way in hell I would do that. 10 hours overnight on a bus? I'd barely consider doing that while not pregnant...Is there any way you can fly and meet the group there?
DD #1: April 2017 DD #2: May 2020 Baby #3: EDD May 2023; MC October 2022
@HappyAnjel I am worried about that too. DS will be 20 months in April, and sleeps like shit still. He has never spent the night somewhere else without me or DH. My mom offered to come to our house to be with him there, and I think he will do better in his own bed, but I still worry he won't go to bed for her. At this point, he won't even take naps for my mom.
@catem07 I'm definitely going to discuss with my OB on Monday before making a final decision because I want to make sure I'm considering everything from a medical perspective. The bus is definitely not the most fun part of the trip (pregnant or not), and if there wasn't going to be guaranteed space for me to put my feet up and get up/stretch I'd say no way. I looked at flights and financially it just isn't an option at the moment. I've been going back and forth on my decision to go though, I'm really indecisive!!
I wasn't worried until the last month or so.. she's always been really good for my parents and has slept over their house a few times because she didn't want to come home. my husband had no problems getting her to bed before either. I've always done it more.. but if I wasn't home it was never a problem.. Hopefully she out grows this and it's not an issue.
@HappyAnjel Maybe plan a few slumber parties at your parent's house before baby comes so that she can get used to sleeping there on occasion again. Have them make it super fun for her to be there (I'm sure this isn't a problem with grandparents though).
Anyone worried about leaving their LOs while at the hospital?
I read this too fast and thought you were asking if we were afraid of leaving LO at the hospital...I was thinking, I don't think they'd let you!
But to answer you, we plan to have DD along for the ride at birth. If I was going to the hospital (or if something happens and I have to), yes, I'd be concerned about leaving her. Even though she's familiar with my parents and has slept there, leaving her overnight is hard. I've only done it once in 3 years (oops!).

@KirstinH88 I'll try for a few sleep over's.. she has slept there a bunch of times in the past as on Saturdays she used to refuse to come home when my parents watched her.. now she demands to come home.. and they spoil her.. always eating out, getting toys, baking and loads of attention.. I'm worried she's being clingy bc we've been reading books about baby and it mentions babies need to be held and nursed a lot.. I just really hope she's not feeling pushed out and I'm making a big deal over nothing.
@punkita51 Thank you so much for checking in. I'm doing much better. Still not 100% but I don't feel like I'm dying and I'm off the steroids which I am happy about. I am so paranoid about getting sick over christmas break when we travel. I'm not going to let any sick people near me because I literally don't think I have the energy to go through this all again.
Any suggestions on compression hose? My right leg is fine, but my left leg looks like a road map. I developed varicose and spider veins over time mostly from my pregnancies. It's getting worse now and I'm hoping to slow it down.
ACK! I just put myself into a panic....I have my AS tomorrow and I've never done this ultrasound thing. It's all from the belly, right? No wands going up my yoni...right?!
Please, please, please! Universe, do not tell me I have to shave my legs before tomorrow.
