IF Check-in Week of 11/28

How is everyone doing this week? Some of us are entering 2nd tri either this week or next, which is super exciting for our group! Others will be following shortly. I hope your symptoms are subsiding (or getting more manageable) and that you're all enjoying being pregnant!

If this is your first time joining us, please introduce yourself (including your EDD and IF treatment history) so that I can add you to the check-in!

1. How far along are you?
2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week?
3. When is your next appointment?
4. Rants/Raves/Questions:

QOTW: Have you announced your pregnancy at work yet? If not, when do you plan to do so? Are you planning any job changes once LO arrives?

    1. How far along are you? 13 weeks, 2 days today. I'm counting myself in 2nd tri now mathematically speaking so I'm feeling good about reaching this milestone!

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? I'm feeling much better but now I'm starting to feel little pains/flutters in my abdomen which I'm hoping is movement but could be anything. Boobs are super sore still and my hunger is out of control around lunch time.

    3. When is your next appointment? Wednesday! I'll feel so relieved once we hear that strong little heart beat again.

    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: My bump really popped out this week and it feels awesome! I wore a tighter shirt yesterday since I don't feel the need to hide it anymore and it felt good to embrace my pregnant body!

QOTW: Have you announced your pregnancy at work yet? If not, when do you plan to do so? Are you planning any job changes once LO arrives? I'm actually leaving my current place of employment and heading somewhere new in 2 weeks (giving my notice today actually). My new job knows about my pregnancy (I told before accepting the position) and being that my new boss is a long-time friend/colleague, she was very supportive and didn't mind at all. I feel very fortunate. Things have gotten so stressful at my current job that I've been worried for about a month now about finding something new while being pregnant. Not much will change once LO arrives. I will take about 3 months leave (unpaid because my income comes directly from the clients I serve) but after that I will go back to work. I only work Monday-Thursday from about 2:30-6:30pm so it's very manageable, and DH often comes home from work before I go in anyway, so it will work out nicely. I'm a therapist in private practice so it's a pretty flexible job and I have control over how many clients I take on and see each week.

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? feeling a little better? *knock on wood*
    3. When is your next appointment?    US Friday, bloodwork today, perinatologist next Tuesday
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: Really really really tired of all the doc visits already... omg

QOTW: Have you announced your pregnancy at work yet? If not, when do you plan to do so? Are you planning any job changes once LO arrives?  I told my boss Friday before Thanksgiving, it was pretty well... I haven't told any other co workers though.  Not really sure how to do that...  My current plan is to keep working along my planned career path, but the timing of baby makes that difficult, so we'll just take it as it comes and see what happens.

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? Still crazy food aversions and waves of nausea.  I also have an unrelated issue which isn't helping matters.  I have a pre-existing back injury and one of the discs slides out of place from time to time as result.  It sits on the nerve and causes IMMENSE pain.  So yeah... that happened this weekend.  It is making things worse and my poor kids aren't getting as much mommy time.
    3. When is your next appointment?   This Friday I have my NT scan.
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: I just HATE my back.

QOTW: Have you announced your pregnancy at work yet? If not, when do you plan to do so? Are you planning any job changes once LO arrives?  My boss knows and a colleague I'm close to.  I haven't told the rest of the team yet, but plan to in a week or so (my NT scan is Friday).  I'm very lucky as my company is incredibly supportive of growing family and pregnant employees. This is baby #3 for me at this company.  No plans to change my schedule once #3 arrives.

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? I'm still just super tired all the time. And this week I've started with insomnia and waking up hungry.

    3. When is your next appointment?  dec 12th with our OB and dec 13th for our NT scan

    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: apparently my mom felt that my belly has gotten big enough at thanksgiving to make cute comments that I stole the turkey. I alway thought I'd be excited to get a baby belly but it kind of freaked me out. I think it's because I still don't "feel" pregnant and I'm afraid I'm just adding on unnecessary pounds. Other than being tired with tight fitting jeans, I'm still doubting that I'm ok. But every u/s has been perfect, not a drop of cramping or spotting. I try and relax and read about all the development that should be going on inside but the fact that I should have a lime-sized baby in my belly and I feel nothing weirdos me out.

QOTW: Have you announced your pregnancy at work yet? If not, when do you plan to do so? Are you planning any job changes once LO arrives? I had to tell my work right away. I'm an oncology nurse so being pregnant affects my ability to give certain chemo and care for children with certain viruses/medications that can pass the placenta. So I got a positive pregnancy test and work knew before my husband only because they tried to give me a patient I couldn't care for that night (what are the odds). However, my supervisor has been a huge support for me as she also struggled with IF for years so it was exciting to get to celebrate with someone so early on.  As for job changes, DH is a firefighter who works 24 hour shifts and only 8 shifts total each month. I work solely night shift so we will have to play with our schedule a little bit but can't see why it won't work.

    4. Rants/Raves/Questions:

QOTW: Have you announced your pregnancy at work yet? If not, when do you plan to do so? Are you planning any job changes once LO arrives? Work knows. Due to school district politics there is some rearranging going on and I was going to be moved to a new department so I told my bosses and staff at 9.5wks. I am (for now) still in my same department(s) since the district has decided to put things on hold.

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? I still have the all day nausea but I think it's getting a little better. I am not actively vomiting on a daily basis so that's a win for me. The acid reflux that I have had is still there and I don't expect that to go away anytime soon.
    3. When is your next appointment?   December 16. This will be the first appointment that I will not have an ultrasound with it. I want to see the baby!
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: None at this time. I'm just taking things day by day. :)

QOTW: Have you announced your pregnancy at work yet? If not, when do you plan to do so? Are you planning any job changes once LO arrives? My situation is a little complicated but I just accepted a new position but they do not know I am pregnant. In my defense, when I interviewed for the job originally I was not pregnant yet. I plan to tell them in a few weeks when I get in the office. I could tell them earlier, as I have signed a contract, but figured I should wait until I am physically working to do so. I just don't want them to feel like I lied about anything or put this on anyone. I feel almost guilty being pregnant and starting a new job.

QOTW: Have you announced your pregnancy at work yet? If not, when do you plan to do so? Are you planning any job changes once LO arrives? I am a SAHM currently (I have an almost 13 month old). We did our "social media" announcement over Thanksgiving though.

@JessErinF Wow, that IS a lot of appointments. I feel like the appointments have pretty much stopped for me now  I have one tomorrow but then my next one won't be until the end of December!

@kmd0501 The growing belly thing is weirding me out too. I have to constantly remind myself that I'm pregnant and not just putting on weight!

@NurseSHS13 I think you're doing the right thing by waiting until you get into the office to tell them about the pregnancy. I feel like these things are best done during face to face conversations anyway. I doubt they will have a problem with it. Congrats on your new job!

@helloaustin123 Congrats on your great scan!

A lot of you are mentioning the NT scan, which is making me wonder why I'm not getting one. My next ultrasound is the anatomy scan at 18 weeks and before that I've just had my initial prenatal visit and then a bonus scan to make sure all was well when I had spotting. No mention of an NT scan. Is that the one where they check for possible chromosomal abnormalities? I'm wondering then if maybe it wasn't recommended for me because we did PGS testing...

@wifeinraleigh28 my doc gave me the option of whether I want to get the NT scan or not. I actually have to decide and call her since my appointment is next week. We are torn about whether to get it. In one sense I figure knowledge is good but in another if there's not much you can do with the results I don't know if I want those added nerves?

    1. How far along are you?

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? Well I managed to get a stomach bug over the holiday and spent all night Sunday to Monday throwing up, haven't been able to keep much down until today. Before that I was actually feeling pretty good for a few days. Today I'm feeling worn out and weak but I think that's more recovering from the bug than pregnancy.
    3. When is your next appointment? One week from today!
    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: None at the moment

QOTW: Have you announced your pregnancy at work yet? If not, when do you plan to do so? Are you planning any job changes once LO arrives? One of my coworkers know but that's it. I work most closely with her and we have to schedule travel pretty far in advance so she sort of needed to know. I'm planning to tell my boss after our next appointment assuming everything looks good! No plans to make any job changes at the time being.

@wifeinraleigh28 My OB has me do both the bloodwork (panorama) and the NT scan.  He said the NT scan looks for more than trisonomies. That said, he did say the bloodwork is more accurate for trisonomies as the NT scan looks for markers.

Oh I feel you @JessErinF. I'm seeing an OB, an MFM specialist, and also my rheumatologist has increased my visit frequency now that I'm pregnant. I'll also be scheduling an echo of my own heart soon because of my autoimmune issues. It's overwhelming!

@wifeinraleigh28 It's great that you find a better job that you love.  It's sad that we still have to worry about what are bosses will think or do when they find out we're pregnant...in this day and age ridiculous but it does still happen. Glad yours was so understanding.

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? nothing really, they all pretty much went away.

    3. When is your next appointment?   It was today.  We had an NT scan (although baby refused to let us get measurements. He/She was jumping around like my uterus was a spring board, which was hilarious.)  We also did the panaroma genetic screening today.  Ready for the results...NOW.

    4. Rants/Raves/Questions:  Tired of feeling anxious. I wasn't with DS at all but then he was in the NICU for two weeks and my SIL had some losses, so I think that is why I am more worried this time. Hoping the screening results will help me calm down and enjoy this pregnancy.

QOTW: Have you announced your pregnancy at work yet? If not, when do you plan to do so? Are you planning any job changes once LO arrives? My principal and a few close co-workers know. Planning to tell once my, hopefully healthy, screening results come in.  I am a teacher and am due the day after the last day of school but am still planning to take leave at the beginning of the following year. 6 months home with my baby? (summer + leave) yes please.

    1. How far along are you? 13 weeks

    2. What symptoms are you experiencing this week? Bad constipation. Still some fatigue. Bloating is better but still there. RLP or pelvic girdle pain. I'm not 100% sure which it is since it seems to have qualities of both. I'm going to discuss it with my OB at my next appointment.

    3. When is your next appointment? December 7th

    4. Rants/Raves/Questions: My rant is pretty petty and I'm probably just in a bad mood but I'm really having so much trouble connecting with anyone on this BMB. I spent so long day dreaming about how amazing it would be to be on a BMB and now that I'm here it's just... a disappointment. I mean don't get me wrong I'm so incredibly excited to be pregnant. And there are some aspects of the board I really enjoy. I just feel like the majority of women here already have a couple of children that they want to talk about all the time and I can't relate to any of that. And so many women here are the fertile myrtles we all have struggled to not be bitter about through the whole infertility process. And somehow it just really grates on my nerves to see people on the BMB acting like they're some sort of unicorn that couldn't possibly ever have anything bad happen to them. The worst thing they can imagine is not having baby be the sex they preferred or something. And there is nothing about that I can relate to, at all. And then all my opening threads and being like "oh OK this has turned into a major AW over existing children" realizing I have nothing at all I can contribute and closing the thread has really left me feeling out of place here.

Anyone else having these problems? I'm assuming if anyone else is feeling disconnected and unable to relate it's probably people from PGAL/IF threads since we've all had some sort of struggle to get here.

QOTW: Have you announced your pregnancy at work yet? If not, when do you plan to do so? Are you planning any job changes once LO arrives? I'm actually not working at the moment which has been great.

@NamelessAria Your rant put into words something I've been feeling weird about for awhile now. Completely agree. I was initially turned off and almost left when there was that whole debate about structured threads. It just completely rubbed me the wrong way that people cared so much about how we chose to interact here. And you're right, a lot of the women here have so many kids and are very fertile and it does make me feel out of place too. I'll admit, I spend way more time on the PAIF board and feel like I've made really close connections with every lady on there. Please come join us if you are so inclined!

@NamelessAria @wifeinraleigh28. I feel that way some but I also know it is partially because I don't respond to other people's post. I, also, was majorly over the board organization . I will say though that this group is MUCH nicer than my August2013 board (sorry other child talk but he was from infertility treatments too so it's okay ;). That board was vicious absolutely horrible, so I am glad that the people here are pretty civil.
