Blood Type, RH Negative

FTM here with O negative blood. DH has O positive blood. Curious to know what other RH negative mom's experiences have been through their pregnancies? Did you get RhoGAM shots? I have my appointment with the nurse this week, so I will for sure bring it up then.

Re: Blood Type, RH Negative

  • I'm rh negative, I've already had 1/2 a rhogam due to early bleeding.  I'll get another around 28 weeks and then one after birth if baby is positive.

It it really poses no issues (for me) other than additional shots.

  • I'm RH Negative too. With DD I got one at 28 weeks (I think) and then after she was born I received the shot again. They'll probably mention it to you as you get closer to the mid 20s week.

Also, I received the shot every time after my 3 miscarriages.

  • O- here as well! With DD I received rhogam at about 28 weeks, @like previous posters said. If she had been RH positive I would've received another, but I didn't. I assume it will be the same this time around. I didn't even know my blood type until I went in and was told I had to get the shot, but I know to expect it this time around.
  • I'm O neg and my husband is O pos, I've had the shot with every pregnancy and then after delivery as well. I just know to except it, it's really no big deal at all. With my first two pregnancies they gave me the shot in my bottom, last pregnancy they actually gave me the option of my arm... so now that I know it's not necessary to have in my bottom I will request my arm this time as well.
  • Another neg here. Dh is neg as well. With my oldest they still made me get the shot. They basically said in front of DH that they can't believe me that dh is the father... Yeah awkward. With Dd2 they let me opt out of it. Not sure what they will do this time around.

  • A-. I got the Rhogam shot at 28 weeks and again after delivery.
  • Thanks ladies. I appreciate all of you sharing your experiences!

I've had the shot each time with all pregnancies.with dd2 , I got a second dose after delivery. They will take the cord blood of the baby at the hospital. Gl!
  • I'm O- and my husband is A+. I got both shots like everyone else with my DD. I didn't have any problems with that pregnancy and haven't had any problems with this one either, knock on wood. I had my first shot in my lower hip and literally didn't feel it. Kind of think my nurse was a magician haha. The second shot was in my arm and unfortunately wasn't as comfortable. IMO, it's worth getting the shots.
  • I don't even remember getting one after delivery, though my DD is A+.  I did get one at 28 weeks (I'm O-) like previous posters mentioned.  No issues.

  • I'm O- and always get the shot at 28 weeks.  It does hurt a little when they do it in the hip/booty.  I'm pretty sure I've had it after both times too but I actually don't know my kiddos blood types.  I need to check.  My DH is A +.  I've had spotting early pregnant and gotten it at the beginning too.
  • Had my appointment today with the nurse. She was impressed DH and I had our blood donor cards with our blood types. Being that I am O- and him being O+ the nurse said it saved my husband a finger prick. She said i'll get the shot at 28 weeks and when the baby is born, the cord blood would be tested and I would get the shot again if the babies blood was positive. Seems simple.

    I'm A- and DH is O+
    DS ended up O+
RhoGAM is no biggie. I had early spotting with my last pregnancy so I received it at 6 weeks, 28 weeks and after birth.

This pregnancy I received it early again (more early spotting) and will again at 28 weeks and after birth.

Edit it to fix my butchered version of RhoGAM.
