Another potty question

So this is my second day of potty training my 27 month old. It's going ok but feel like he is going potty on his seat by luck. I take him every 1/2 hour. Any success stories from moms that have gone through this? Also, what is the latest that you give your LO liquids before bedtime? His bedtime is 8.
