Progesterone levels

Hi everyone! I just got my BFP yesterday and I am still super early in my pregnancy at 3w4d. I have bloodwork yesterday to check my progesterone levels (I typically spot several days before AF, starting on 10DPO) and I just got a call back with the results. My progesterone level is 13.45 so the nurse said the doctor wanted me to start on progesterone supplements. I was wondering if any of you ladies had it tested, and basically if this is something I need to worry about?

  • I also got my progesterone levels at 4 weeks, 3 days. It came back at 9.45 ng/l. I spoke to the doctor on call, who said since it's so early, they aren't concerned. But I'm still waiting for my doctor and nurses to get back to me.

Now I feel like I SHOULD be on supplements. Hmmm...

I've heard really good things about supplements during the first trimester!

  • Ok so you guys would assume it's just a precaution then? The nurse told me not to worry but I can't help it. I'm still in the super scary part of pregnancy. (Are any parts not scary??)

  • My nurse just called me too and my progesterone is 8. Dr. is in tomorrow morning so she said that once he sees the results he will decide if he wants to check again in a few days or give me something. She said I'm so early but it looks like we are off to a great start. I'm trying not to worry.
  • Update: my nurse called again and my Dr. had gotten back to her regarding my results. I'm getting labs redrawn tomorrow and if progesterone is not over 10 my Dr. is giving me something. I'm a little nervous.
  • @shstephenson congrats on your BFP! To make you feel better, my progesterone is super low (6.5) and I'm a little bit further along than you. I'm in limbo now waiting to see if my other levels increase, in which case I will go on progesterone supplements as well. Fingers crossed!

If the nurse says not to worry, I would try your best to follow that advice. It's really good that they are doing this so early. Good luck!

  • I'm 4wks today. Thank you!
  • Hi due date buddy! I'm going through something similar and just switched OBs because I was frustrated with the response I was getting. Mine was low (from what I'm seeing) at 8dpo. I'm waiting on a call back from my new (well old- I used him for my first 6 years ago) doctor to see if they will test again to make sure it's not still low.

  • @nikkiandchris was your OB not taking your concerns seriously? I would switch too!

  • My level was 15 (at a little over 5 weeks) and my doctor put me on supplements. So far so good! Up to 7+5 today). Certainly won't hurt anything to be on them!

    Sweet baby boy arrived 7/7/17!
  • @shstephenson not really. And then when talking to two different doctors at the practice they had wildly different opinions on key things like the cutoff, when to start supplements, and when to stop. So I peaced out.

  • @shstephenson Just got my levels back, they are 13. My new doc said that's fine. So interesting that they all have different cutoffs. Sounds like maybe your supplements are just a good precaution :)

  • @nikkiandchris oh that's comforting! I'm a worrier by nature so it's nice to have you ladies to talk to!

  • @shstephenson Oh my gosh, me too. I have anxiety about everything, on a good day. The beginning of pregnancy is very hard when you're already a worrier.

  • Even though I wish you guys didn't have anxiety, it's reassuring knowing I'm not alone. I worry and dwell on everything during pregnancy. It's like the happiest/scariest time of my life. I want so much to just be excited but I know all to well what is possible.

P.S. My Doctor prescribed me 200mg Prometrium once daily.
  • I was put on progesterone with my last pregnancy and took it all through the first tri , and was put in it again yesterday for this pregnancy. my progesterone was 9something yesterday.
