@TinaBelcher Thanks! I'm going to discuss all this with my OB tomorrow. I'd really like to get a firm, yes we'll induce by x-time or not. It's interesting that the two OBs that have directly said they'd do vaginal delivery if A is down are the two men and the two OBs that have been practicing the longest. I'm really curious what the OB says that I'm seeing tomorrow since she's the youngest in the practice.
I plan on working up until I deliver or until I can't stand it any more. With my son I started my leave a week before he came because I was just so physically tired. I want to save as much leave as possible for after the baby is here.
@askerrysmile where in VT are you? I live in Williston. *waves*
I will be working up until I have the baby. I can take 12 weeks off with FMLA but of course none of it's paid. I do have some sick and vacation days. I will be using for paid. It's going to be tight but I'm only going to take eight weeks off if the delivery and everything goes well. This is my fourth pregnancy. The baby head down already but my cervix is high and close. I did have my daughter at 3.5 weeks early. With her I work all the way until I had her. With this one I plan to do the same. I'm due January 14th. I make my own schedule at work. So I don't work everyday anyways. I do plan on working until I have him.
As of right now I plan on working until I'm induced or I guess right before since we will be on Christmas break right before I'm induced. We had to modify the schedule for me though in order to do that. My contractions have gotten really intense and the clinic I work at does not want me going into labor at work. So I get to answer the phones a lot in the coming weeks. I don't mind really though. It gives me good practice for the desk. I had to negotiate with my OB to keep working and this was the compromise we came up with. Thank goodness because I can't afford to go on leave just yet.
I'm a waitress at my families restaurant, I currently only work 2 days a week, but after next week I'll go down to maybe 1 day and possibly just be the cashier. After working last night for 3.5 hours on the super hard tiles we have I just feel like crap today. Not even out of bed yet and I can tell my hips are messed and my feet are really tender. I'm due jan 3rd so I'll likely stop working around December 20. I'm in Canada so I get the whole year off.
I feel so so bad for all you mamas that get shit for time off. I don't understand how "rthe greatest country in the world" can just treat mothers like trash
it's easier when you rememeber its historically only been the greatest country in the world for men, and usually rich ones at that.
I teach 7/8 math in Arizona and it's so hard to find decent substitute teachers in my location. It's honestly one of the things I'm most worried about.... I have Short Term Disability coverage, and enough PTO saved up for about 6 weeks (4 day school week) depending on how it all works out. My students were just asking me yesterday if I was going to take off a couple of weeks before the baby comes, and I told them I plan on working until my doctor tells me not to or until my water breaks at school (cue awkward conversation with 13 years olds about giving birth in class). We have two weeks off for Christmas break, and I would ideally not like to come back from break for a few days just to leave again. Since my technical due date is 2/1, or the way end of January, I plan to stick it out as long as I can and be on leave until early/mid-April when another teacher at my school is due to have her baby.
This thread makes me so sad for those of you finding yourselves in situations where you can't spend as much time with your babes as you'd like, or are needing time before the baby comes to rest but can't. Sending you all hugs!
I chose to take this current term off teaching and will take a few terms off after baby comes. Unpaid of course.
@sagoon I'm in Brattleboro! we are so lucky to have some amazing community resources available such as Nurse Family Partnership, various new moms groups, It takes a Village volunteers and a birthing center with extremely low rate of interventions. no paid family leave across the board though... I hope hope hope my plan to depend on the state for the first year doesn't backfire on me somehow. I have never not held a job and supported myself since I was 15! I just can't see the logic in going back to work a low paying job where most of my income would just go to childcare. Is anybody else going to apply for any state benefits when baby is born? or is already utilizing them?
I'll be working right up until the baby comes. Due date is 1/10. Last time my DD came on her due date, I went into labor the day before but actually went to work because it was a Friday and my contractions were so mild and spread out to start with. It ended up being a 32 hour labor. No dramatic water breaking in the office for me. I'll be taking off 12 weeks again this time, mostly unpaid.
These posts make me so sad about parental leave in our country. My husband is an engineer and works for a really great company. We are so so fortunate they offer paid "parental leave" meaning men and women qualify. I have FMLA with very very generous PTO so my full FMLA will be covered for 12 weeks of leave if i use my PTO which i plan on using about half so i have some when i come back. Plus My husband gets his paid leave. Not required by law but out of the generosity of his company...we feel so blessed. But parental leave in this country is really awful. I hope someday there will be a change fir the better. I realize with this child it will not happen but i can only hope for future child(ren) and those of others.
I had planned to work right up until he was born, just like I did with my son. Yesterday I called the dr to say that I was having a lot of lower pelvic pain, cramping and back pains. They told me to come in and examined me and my cervix is short and they could feel his head, so now I'm on bedrest at 29.5 weeks
I have had a lot of pelvic area pain while moving. I never had it with my son, but this time it feels like idk a bruised muscle or pulled. it hurts when I walk or get up and down but if I stay moving it goes away. I'm at 31 weeks but I've had this pain for a few weeks
After looking at daycare options and really thinking I want to be a SAHM I've worked with my boss to go to part time. I work at a Hospital. I think it will be the best of both worlds. My actual schedule will be 2 days a week. But if someone in my department needs a day off I will get to decide if I want to pick up extra shifts. Luckily my husband is an operating engineer and will be laid off when baby arrives so I will thankfully have him home with me my whole maternity leave of 12weeks. And if being a SAHM ends up not being for me I still have my foot in the door to go back to full time at some point! ETA: I hope to start part time Jan 1st so I have some time to myself before baby! But we will see how that works out!
I'm going to be working until baby girl comes. I'm feeling good and staying productive so there's no reason for me to sit at home and nest at this point.

I am planning on working until the baby comes because I work from home and haven't had any pregnancy complications that would prevent me from continuing. I'm so ready to be done though.
