Missing Work Due to MS?

Y'all.  I can't keep it together.  I'm 10 weeks today and the "morning" sickness is definitely peaking to a point that I can barely function.  So far, I have made it through teaching without getting sick, but I'm at the point where I'm ready to call in tomorrow...but I feel so lame!  Has anyone else called in due to MS that lasts all. day. long?

I SAH full time, but I've missed swim practice (I'm the coach) on several occasions due to nausea. I'm also the VP for my daughter's school's PTA, and I've missed a couple of those meetings as well.

  • I feel for you. I'm a stay at home mom right now and there have been many days in the last couple of weeks where my mom has covered for me or my daughter has watched way too much netflix. If you think one day off will help you feel recuperated, it might be worth it. Otherwise, if you can't get through work, maybe your doctor can recommend something for the nausea. I'm almost 11 weeks so hoping that it'll end soon for both of us.
  • I wish I could call in sick from my life right now. I'm not functioning at all.  I can't grocery shop or prepare meals. I can't change a pee diaper without vomiting.  I am so behind on laundry that I can't find my way out.

  • I'm trying to hang in there so I can save my days for doctor appointments and maternity leave, but it's tough. I have friends who are off at different periods who are helping cover my classes when I need them on occasion, so that is helping.

  • I am also a teacher and puked every morning for 3 or 4 days until my doctor put me on diclegis and it really works there is no harm in asking for something to help. The down side of the  medicine is that is does make me tired but I have thrown up since there are still a few nausea spells but it has gotten a lot better

  • Yes, I took 2 days off last week (11 weeks). Surpringly everyone was pushing me to take more time. This is about  your baby and your health, work will still be there when you get back
  • Do what is best for you and your baby. I am a teacher and have had to call in due to MS. I am on Diclegis also and it helps. I would take the day off and rest.
  • I almost lost my job in my last pregnancy because I missed too many days. If the medication you're taking isn't working for you, don't be afraid to get your doctor to give you something new.

Having said, I wouldn't stress about missing a day or two, but if it's interfering with your life, I would seek out something new.
  • When I was working with my last pregnancy I never called out.  I had severe all day MS and just puked all day at work. I knew where w wry trash can was! So gross! I don't know how I did it!!!! I think there was only about 7 weeks of no puking during my 1st pregnancy!
  • I missed 2 days of work in week 9 (which was by far the worst week for me). Since then I have felt much better. All day MS is no joke and if you need a little extra rest I think you're entitled to that!!!

  • During my last pregnancy I "got the flu" a few times during the first tri. No one seemed to bat and eye and everyone felt bad that I wasn't getting better and that I was really suffering at work. So far, I have taken a half day leave because I felt terrible and I literally had nothing important to do at work.

I was a cosmetic manager for Macy's and working 6 days 10-12 hours a day during the holidays. It was brutal! My boss wasn't understanding even despite me throwing up multiple times in front of her haha
  • I have 2 part time jobs while in school and I've had to drop all my shifts for the one since it's all in the evening and I go to bed at 7. The other is babysitting and they have been very understanding!! I'm glad the first tri is while in school. I can't imagine having a full time job right now! Although I'm slacking on school work.

  • I saw this thread originally, but skipped past it since I wasn't experiencing any symptoms... Now, I am miserable.  I'm nauseous, I am SO fatigued, I am achy... I just want to crawl in bed.  My husband told me to take the day off to rest... and I decided not to since I had already gotten up and gotten ready (crying the whole time)... Now, I wish I would have taken the day.

  • I called in sick last night.  Sent the baby to the babysitter's house and my big kids to school.  Ahhhhhhhh unfortunately my peace comes to an end in 2.5short hrs.

  • i haven't called in sick at all yet... technically.... but i don't think i have worked one full day at all since i found out i was pregnant... I am a college professor which is convenient right now because as long as I teach my class and am there for my students, no one really notices if i'm not in my office at other times.  but its really wearing me down and  i'm not getting better.  I see the doc tomorrow morning so hopefully she will have some good recommendations.  i am just sick of feeling so sick.  poor hubby is working full time and just taking care of EVERYTHING at home, i'm so impressed and grateful and i feel so bad.... :-(

Don't feel bad! The MS will usually pass after the first tri so you are almost there. Let your husband take care of you for a few weeks and keep slacking at work. Try to plan to sleep more at night. Remember, so much of baby's development is the first tri. Your body is doing a tremendous amount of work!

  • I have not missed work yet due to MS but I feel like HELL today!  My insurance would not cover diclesys (sp?) so my dr has me taking unisom and B6....which was working until I felt the need to "Try" to not take the unisom last last......BIG MISTAKE!!!!  Needless to say I will be taking the unisom tonight.  When I take it I feel great! and it looks like at 11 weeks I'm not ready to be off of it yet.  I work with 4 yr old Pre K, so throwing up in class has been super fun today!  With my first pregnancy I threw up for 18 weeks.  I was on Zofran at the time :/  luckily my DD turned our just fine and we didn't have any issues
  • I have called in sick twice this week. I am always nauseous. I am also getting migraines which is different than my first pregnancy. I am taking unisom and it's really not helping like it did in my first pregnancy. I feel like I'm going to die. I know I sound dramatic but I do. Why is this so hard???
