Registering

So I already have people offering me items/ wanting to know what we want.... I personally have not even thought about it yet, only 13 weeks, but with the free glider offer etc.. my husband and I are going to start looking tomorrow.... my questions for you ladies...

#1 when did you register? (Ps I already know gender)

#2 where did you register. I know there are registry websites now where you can register for amazon and buy buy baby. Wondering what's been used/previous experiences.

Re: Registering

  • #1 20ish weeks, I researched a ton before then.

#2- BBB, BRU, Target, and an Amazon list.  I did most of my registering in stores, one at a time though because I was exhausted.

Are you asking about what baby items were previously used or registering tools?

Registering tools, figured items would be too much in the same thread!

  • BBB, Target, PB Kids - We maybe registered around 13 weeks as we found out the gender at 12.

I think most stores have it set up where you can use your phone to scan and add items instead of having to get their scanner tool to do it all. That was very convenient!

A word about the catch-all online registries - like where you have everything from different stores under 1 list (I can't think what it's called)... I have heard they can be a hassle as individual stores will not have a record of what has or hasn't been purchased. If people don't order directly through that registry or go online to mark it 'purchased' if they buy in-store, you can end up with duplicates.
  • I registered sometime in the 2nd trimester and kept it private until I was ready to share. I have already started working on an Amazon registry this time, if for nothing else, the completion coupon. I just have it set to private.

As far as where... I registered at Babies R Us and Amazon with my daughter. Almost everyone bought from the Amazon registry and one person bought off of the Babies R Us registry. This time around, I am going to do an Amazon registry and probably a Target registry.

  • I registered at around 25 weeks only. What can happen if you register too early is that things go on clearance or are pulled off the shelf and become unavailable so if you register early, you might want to keep a close eye on availability of items.

I registered at Target, Walmart, and BRU. I think that Amazon is a great idea! I loved the welcome packages and the completion coupons so even though I won't have a shower this time, I plan on registering for the completion coupon.

  • I registered on Amazon and Target with DD1. Agree with @vrj0522 Target is especially bad with high inventory turn over, so if you want a specific bed set/theme or something you just need to go ahead and buy it. Also they are VERY specific. I had registered for a certain color for a Bumbo seat and my friend texted to let me know they were out of stock and got a different color and they wouldn't let her take it off the registry because it wasn't the color I registered.

I highly recommend Lucie's List (just google it). It's a website ran by a mom and she reviews literally everything. It really helped when I was registering and trying to figure out what I really needed vs. wants and preferences.
  • +1 for Lucies List. In the past two years I have gone back to the site for things like high chair lists, convertible car seats, etc. That woman is a wizard.

I didnt have any planned ahowers with my first so i had a private Amazon registry for myself. I added things from their sites like the bedroom furniture from PB and it was nice to have everything in one place. If parents asked about specifics I could send them that link.

Also timing for me was kind of a moot point because of team green.

I would suggest not not to register for clothes. You will get a ton and almost exclusively in tiny sizes they row out of. Also clothes turn over in stock and like PP said they often are no longer available by the time folks are shopping.

  • I have seen tons of recommendations for lucies list. I've signed up for her emails and it's not an insane amount so like it so far!

  • I registered at BRU and target with my first. I love target but am not a fan of their registry and return process. This time around I might do a private Amazon registry for the completion coupon. I registered around 26 weeks or so.

  • We did amazon as I have a lot of out of town family, and one of the higher end local shops as well. Both were great and used equally. A word of advice for not looking tacky: provide registry info on request and don't include the link on your shower invites or it looks gift-grabby. We let people ask me or the shower host where we were registered and if they wanted to give something not on the registry that was totally fine too.
  • The first time we waiting to find out gender before registering, so 20 weeks which was perfect before the holidays. We registered at BRU and Target and I did both online. I asked my cousin who had two kids at the time what products she recommended and I went from there with my research.

This time we are Team Green and I finished my registry by 9 weeks. Again with the holidays coming up, I know my family will be wondering what we want/need. I used Baby List which is a site that you can pull items from any site or store. I like it this time because the things that we registered for are from many different places.

I registered way early but I had my Baby shower at 27 weeks, I probably should have added that to previous comment.

  • With DD we registered around 20 weeks when we found out the sex! This time around we are thinking of starting one soon since the holidays are coming around, I know my parents will be asking what we need for the baby! DH and I will most likely go to Target again and maybe BRU.

  • I started a private Amazon registry around 13 weeks. I went with Amazon because we already buy a lot of stuff from there, it has a sweet completion discount, and it allows you to add items from other online shops (etsy, target, etc). I don't want to have a conventional shower with gifts, but I like having something on hand for family or people who ask. It's a surprisingly handy organizing tool, especially if you're still doing research or need to prove to your SO that an item really does have the best reviews out there (my DH researches everything to death). It's also useful if you want to keep track of items you still need after you go through any hand-me-downs.
  • I think for DD we waited until after 20 weeks. We registered at Target in person and I added/edited the list online. I also had an amazon list plus kohls (for completion coupons).

  • I highly recommend Baby List. You can register for items from anywhere (BRU, Amazon, etc) and it's all in one place rather than having multiple links for people. You can also list used items if you don't mind hand-me-downs, gift cards, and things like meal deliveries. Definitely the best registry option out there in my opinion.

If you use this option do you still receive the benefits from the stores? The completion coupons etc...
  • @Cubslove12 I'm not sure ... I'm guessing not but it didn't matter to me so I didn't look into it.
  • I will also say as someone who bought something off of Babylist, it is kind of a pain. You have to go to a 3rd party webpage and buy the item and then go back to Babylist and tell them what you bought. I found it pretty confusing.
  • 1. Not until after we found out the sex, so sometime after 21 weeks. This time, we found out the sex way early via the Harmony Test. I don't think I'm having a baby shower this time since we are out of state from most family and friends, but I will probably make a private Amazon list again if they do a registry completion coupon.

    2. BRU and Target. I knew that the majority of our family members prefer shopping in person, so I tried to make sure I chose things that were in stores.
