It infuriates me that people only voted for Trump because "he is pro life". First off, he may say he is, but he sure has flip flopped a LOT. Second off he isn't pro Mexican life, or Muslim life, or Immagrant life, or African American life. I am SO sick of people calling themselves Christians and only fighting for ONE ISSUE. News Flash a Republican Supreme Court passed Roe v. Wade. There are WAY more important things to base your vote on than abortion. Maybe the fact that ISIS is a real issue and something is going to happen the next four years. What is President-elect Trump going to do about Syria? Education? Equality? Healthcare?
Glad to know you elected a man to "save babies" but has no clue how to run the rest of the world.
Edit: this wasn't at anyone in particular. I'm a Christian, and I just hate how my my friends and previous classmates were justifying their vote for Trump because "he is pro life" I'm voting "pro life"
My UO is that I voted for Trump. (Flame away!) I don't agree with what he has said about women or even other racial groups, but as a Republican I agree with the fundamentals.
Being pregant and already having a child, I could not rightly vote for someone who believes that my unborn child does not matter. I also do not believe in what HRC has done in the past.
You may not agree with me, as I can see most of you don't from the previous posts, but everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and opinions. The outcome of the election may not be what you wanted, but it is time for us to band together as a nation and rebuild the foundation upon which we were built.
Voting for Trump is your right, But I do have a serious question.
On the Women's rights issue, Abortion, do you think a women should be forced to carry a baby/fetus that has a disorder that is incompatible with life?
Just to clarify, I didn't just vote for him because he is pro-life. That was just one reason why I didn't vote for Hillary.
@chickyclg, my belief is that, unless there is harm that can come to the mother's life, then a baby should be carried. Now I am not going to tell anyone how to live their life. It is a very serious conversation, and if a woman and her partner or just the woman herself decides that she does does want to carry the child then that is her decision. I just know that for myself and my husband, our decision is that any child would be carried for as long as they could be. We know plenty of people who have had abortions for various reasons and we are still friends with them, but you never know the good that can come from a life no matter how short lived. Organ donation is a beautiful thing.
@achays11 Do you not realize the burden unwanted babies place on everyone? There is a higher risk of abuse, neglect for forcing people to parent babies they don't want. Higher number of people needing assistance, higher cost to those who work and contribute to those services. Not all babies born and given up are adopted or even adopted by appropriate families.
It is SO ironic to me that a large conservative and often republican view is for the govt to stay out of their personal lives. Don't police their guns, their land, their money, etc... Yet they want to be able to police what happens in my or anyone's uterus? No uterus? No opinion.
My UO: I'm still sad Jeb Bush didn't get the Republican nominee. Not because I thought he'd be a good president , but because I really wanted it to be Bush v Clinton in the same year Salt N Peppa went on tour with Vanilla Ice. I The 90s.
I literally LOL'd at this. This might be more 80s than 90s but I'll add in: french-rolled cuffs! of stone-washed jeans! with a baggy t-shirt with a slider tie on the side! And let's not forget huge-assed scrunchies and super-high crusty-sprayed bangs. RIP, horrible fashion, and please don't come back. (Although, I've seen quite a lot of denim jackets in person lately...)
Trump's potential power over the Supreme Court terrifies me. We have to find a way to keep RBG alive indefinitely.[...]
My less serious UO: I despise automatic toilet flushers, hand towel dispensers, or anything else that tries to think for me in the bathroom.
Edited for spelling- I was on a roll
(1) All I can think of now is the animated show called Futurama... with the heads in a jar... and there's one epp with Snoop as the Supreme Court chief justice, LOL (I'm such a nerd...)
(2) @kayemjay2 : do those toilets with the seat warmers, self-flushers, auto-bidets, self-cleaners, and LED strip lights kind of scare you? Yes, I'll admit, I just searched Google for fancy toilets and found the one in which the toilet "knows" you're approaching and it softly gently lowers the seat to herald your arrival (misting the bowl ever so slightly so stuff doesn't, you know, ahem, stick.) That toilet comes with a remote control (eww! one more thing to sanitize!) that has a memory function to remember how you like the water temperature & pulsation rates for the bidet part of it. I've probably already said too much, but I'll just add: that article I'm referencing was a few years old already, so, you know, there are probably toilets available with little robot hands that jut out to help you do your thang now. Sweet dreams!

I really don't want you to feel as if I am bashing your views, I am just always intrigued on where that line gets drawn for pro-lifers and how the decision is determined.
ETA: another thought came to me, Could you imagine being forced to carry your baby to term so its organs could be harvested. That thought brings tears to my eyes for the parents that have gone through that.
I think it's hilarious how hypocritical people are being. People are being nasty, hateful, rude, etc. The very same qualities in which they despise in Trump. Also, he objectifies and sexually abuses women? Hillary has spent years defending the exact same crap in her husband.
I get that people adore her. That's cool. To each their own. But I am glad she is not our next president. (On the flip side, I'm not thrilled about Trump. It's difficult haha)
I'm keeping it light, things have been too heavy in the world this week.
I hate strawberry jam and love grape jelly.
YASSS! I hate strawberry flavored stuff and jam is the worst. Grape all the way! or raspberry, blueberry, apple, orange....pretty much anything NOT strawberry.
Avoiding politics as I am so beyond over it, but my UO is that I'm not super interested in BFing baby #2, I didn't work out with DD and I think it ended up being better in the long run when I was an exhausted FTM who had a clingy baby, a DH who worked 2 jobs and desperately needed a shower. Also on the jelly debate...my life was not complete until I tried apple cinnamon jelly. it sounds disgusting, but it is amazing.

Not sure how this is a question, he has either admitted to his actions, or they have been caught when he is knowingly on camera.
Also I'm not sure of the facts on "Hillary has spent years defending the exact same crap in her husband." But he is not the one running for president regardless.
It is ok to be upset, especially when you know that this was a win using an archaic system, not majority. Had every vote counted, we would be saying "Hello Madame President" on January 20, 2017.

Hahaha. My parents has a toilet seat that has these different temperature setting and blue led light. No bidet though. It is really nice to have it on the low heat setting actually pkus the led is great for when you gotta pee in the middle of the night. I'm hoping to get DH on board with getting one whenever we get a house of our own!
Also I could do with seeing no more elecrion related talk. Make an election related thread for all I care, but I'm over it. I've had enough on facebook and from my own father who just can't seem to get a hint to stop talking.
@SKZW- That literally gave me goosebumps. And not the good kind. I was in Atlanta a few years ago and used a restroom in a public park. When I walked in, a robot voice said "Welcome. Please wait, the toilet is being sanitized. There was no toilet to be seen, but after a moment, a toilet seat slid out of the wall. While I was peeing, it informed me that the door would automatically open in 10 minutes if I didn't open it before then. It was a horrifying experience. If you bladder hadn't been about to burst, I would've gotten the hell out of there asap.

@pshaortao is a genius- this is such a hot topic and no good can come from continued passionate exchanges. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and clearly no minds will be changed over a TB debate.
The jelly talk has caused a major craving for jalapeño jelly, cream cheese, and crackers. I have 30 jalapeño from my garden just waiting to be turned into jelly and canned but I just haven't had the motivation to do so.
@SKZW I don't think it was THAT fancy, but a friend of mine bought a house that had pretty fancy toilets with bidets, fans, and heated seats. I have to say... it was strange but it's kind of awesome. Plus think how much easier it would be to clean up after sex.... SO much easier.
Also FTR, I'm SO with @pshaortao. I think that the political conversations are so important but I am so talked out on the subject. Luckily here it has been respectful but I literally cried yesterday - not so much because of the outcome of the election, but at all the hate, vitriol, and divisive comments and conversations occurring on my Facebook. I'm losing faith in my own friends and family. A president can't determine our own actions, so let's choose to be kind and hope that kindness can be contagious.

Mmmm cream cheese and crackers. That sounds pretty fantastic right about now.
ETA- actually I'm thinking those creamy pepper jack cheese or whatever. Ill have to pick some up tomorrow!
This is definitely going to be UO, but to those saying you're "over it" and just want to move on from this election, please recognize that those thoughts come from a place of enormous privilege. It's great that the presidency of a man who came to power on a platform built on hateful comments and absurd plans to destroy the lives of millions of people doesn't affect you. It's awesome that his terrifying, damaging, biggoted rhetoric that galvanized hundreds of thousands of bigots and misogynists and told them that the hate they feel in their hearts for "The Other" is legitimate and worth expressing now bores you. But many of your fellow Americans don't get to move on and forget about this because we elected a man who got to the White House by telling those Americans they are "less than" and when we elected him, we told the world that his words are legitimate.
So I'm sorry you're tired of hearing about politics. But maybe before you make that statement again, take a moment and understand why some people can't actually move on: https://whywereafraid.com/
@RainyDays86 I need a break frim the politics. I'm not happy with the results, wasn't happy with the candidates and it'll be...interesting...to see what happens in our country, but I as a POC "minority", as a woman and a mother to a daughter am not privileged because I want a break from the political bullshit.
@OmegaRose3 I get it. But I'm saying that many, many Americans can't actually take a break because they are preparing for the possible deportation of family members or have experienced direct harassment because the new president-elect actually said the things that people in their community have thought for years, legitimizing them. So take a break, but recognize that it's a privilege to do so.
l understand political rhetoric exhaustion. But we have 4 more years of this. If you don't want to see it, unfortunately, you'll have to find a way to filter it out of your own life. We could start a separate thread on here or those over it can just scroll by the comments on this thread. I'm fine with either. Sadly life doesn't have a political filter.

There's nothing hilarious about the current state of our society. In case you missed it, it's 2016. We no longer blame wives for their husband's infidelities. Actually admitting to committing sexual assault and being married to a guy who had affairs are 2 very different things.

Quote box issues.
@achays11 This is actually the viewpoint of many pro-choice individuals. If you feel this way, why legislate your pro-life views on everyone else?

I'll preface this by saying that I did not vote for Trump. But I feel like it's this kind of flippant dismissal of HRC's major flaws that led everyone to be blindsided by the results of the election. Her husband did not just "have affairs". He has been accused, multiple times, of sexual assault and a few of those victims have said that HRC threatened them to retract their claims. In a time when everyone claims to be trying to get victims heard, for some reason there is blatant victim shaming when it comes to Bill Clinton's alleged victims. Was this enough to sway my vote to Trump? No. But for some people it was.
Just to clarify, I didn't just vote for him because he is pro-life. That was just one reason why I didn't vote for Hillary.

Have you ever been placed in a situation where you might have to choose? My second miscarriage we found out that the baby had multiple genetic abnormalities. After further research I discovered often these babies survive full term and only live a month in pain. I know I didn't have to make that decision, but I was close to it. I personally don't believe in abortion, I'm also adopted so I strongly am pro-adoption. I however do not believe the government should have any control over my decision as a woman. People are going to get abortions either way, might as well have the right information and experts available to them instead of forcing illegal operations.
Just to clarify, I didn't just vote for him because he is pro-life. That was just one reason why I didn't vote for Hillary.

I agree with @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot that the bolded portion of your statement = pro-choice. I completely respect that you and your husband would choose to carry your child, not matter what. I honestly don't know what I would do if I were in such a horrific situation, but I do know that I do not want the government taking away my options. By taking away a woman's right to choose termination, you are telling her how to live her life.
I also understand those of you who grow weary of political debate, but to me, it's cathartic. Discussing these issues with smart, reasonable people gives me hope. Also, as @RainyDays86 pointed out, not everyone has the luxury of "taking a break." My LGBT friends don't get to forget that their rights are threatened. My Muslim friends don't get to take a break from being afraid of their fellow Americans harassing them or ripping off their hijabs. Yes, I will likely be relatively okay under Trump's reign, but that does not mean I will be silent towards the injustices done to others.

I probably could have worded that better. I won't dismiss Bill's flaws and I am uneasy about the alleged victim's treatment in the press and how HRC was portrayed in the whole situation. I don't think we'll ever know what happened there and I truly believe all women reporting an assault should be believed. That said, we have trump on tape admitting to sexually assaulting a women and several more women have come forward with claims. I don't think it's fair to compare Hillary and Donald on these circumstances.
Every one is entitled to their opinions, and all I was doing was giving my own. We don't have to agree, and I am not going to argue whether you're right or I'm right. This is why I actually hate discussing politics, much to MH's dismay as a Poli Sci major. I'm not going to force someone to think my way, I'm just going to go on with my beliefs.
With that I will say go and thank a veteran today that we can all have the freedom to express ours minds here and on any other platform we wish.
@Jkp7749 I have also been listening to Christmas music, watching movies and as soon as our renos are done next week I'm going to start decorating. Have to wait until after Thanksgiving for a tree but that's because I like real ones and I don't want it to die. I love my house all lit up with the garland and tree. Festive and happy.
My UO is that as a FTM I am so overwhelmed with all the choices for one baby thing. Take bottles, there are hundreds of brands and styles that I don't know where to start. Can't I just have a list of a couple options with some ratings? Stopped looking for the time being as it's just too much.
@SWE2 I remember feeling that way too. I made and remade my registry too many times to count and always ended up frustrated. As much as I didn't believe it, babies really don't need all that much, and a lot of what they need you can buy after they're here (high chair, bibs, feeding supplies). Regarding bottles, you might as well just pick one, buy a few, and see if your baby even likes them. You can buy more later if it does.
I'm sorry but I have to bring this up. I fell like all of you commenting on voting for trump for being pro-life is quite hypocritial. You do realize that only 2 weeks ago we had a member of this very board who was faced with the devastating news that her unborn child would not have survived past birth and terminated her pregnancy. You all supported her and gave her your condolences. And now your basically saying she killed her baby. Shame on you for that. I feel horrible for that poor mother. My heart goes out to her and her family. She and her husband faced my worst nightmare. She found out soon enough that she did have a decision. But down here in NC abortion for any reason passed 19 weeks and 2 days is illegal. So if anything is seen on and anatomy scan the state doesn't even give me a choice. I pray that everything goes smoothly and for this reason I pushed to have an NT scan when my doc said I didn't need one. You can bash me all you want for bringing it up, but reading some of the comments on this thread really stuck a cord with me.

I dont know if she proceeded with an abortion, just that they had a very difficult decision to make. The diagnosis was not exactly something that would be terminal but could cause a lot of complications but it could also be completely okay. You just dont know until the birth. But regardless of what she decided, we all still gave our support. I think of her and I hope she and her family are doing okay no matter what.
I'm glad you brought up the law in NC because I didn't know. I just moved there a few months ago and we opted not to do any testing yet. I will try to push to do the anatomy scan closer to 18 weeks since they said they start around then up to 22 weeks, just so we can be fully prepared.

I saw her on the MC board and her and her husband went to the specialist and it was determined there were multiple issues that determined the baby wouldn't survive past birth. They opted to have a D & E last week. My heart hurt so much when I read that.

I get that people adore her. That's cool. To each their own. But I am glad she is not our next president. (On the flip side, I'm not thrilled about Trump. It's difficult haha)

Also on the jelly debate...my life was not complete until I tried apple cinnamon jelly. it sounds disgusting, but it is amazing.

Also I could do with seeing no more elecrion related talk. Make an election related thread for all I care, but I'm over it. I've had enough on facebook and from my own father who just can't seem to get a hint to stop talking.

opinions and clearly no minds will be changed over a TB debate.
The jelly talk has caused a major craving for jalapeño jelly, cream cheese, and crackers. I have 30 jalapeño from my garden just waiting to be turned into jelly and canned but I just haven't had the motivation to do so.
ETA- actually I'm thinking those creamy pepper jack cheese or whatever. Ill have to pick some up tomorrow!

So I'm sorry you're tired of hearing about politics. But maybe before you make that statement again, take a moment and understand why some people can't actually move on: https://whywereafraid.com/
l understand political rhetoric exhaustion.

@achays11 This is actually the viewpoint of many pro-choice individuals. If you feel this way, why legislate your pro-life views on everyone else?

I also understand those of you who grow weary of political debate, but to me, it's cathartic. Discussing these issues with smart, reasonable people gives me hope. Also, as @RainyDays86 pointed out, not everyone has the luxury of "taking a break." My LGBT friends don't get to forget that their rights are threatened. My Muslim friends don't get to take a break from being afraid of their fellow Americans harassing them or ripping off their hijabs. Yes, I will likely be relatively okay under Trump's reign, but that does not mean I will be silent towards the injustices done to others.

With that I will say go and thank a veteran today that we can all have the freedom to express ours minds here and on any other platform we wish.
My UO is that as a FTM I am so overwhelmed with all the choices for one baby thing. Take bottles, there are hundreds of brands and styles that I don't know where to start. Can't I just have a list of a couple options with some ratings? Stopped looking for the time being as it's just too much.
