TTC After a Loss

Intro! New Here. Need Advice

Hello all,

I just experienced a loss yesterday where I had to have a D&C done the same day. Had D&C done yesterday, heavy bleeding afterwards yesterday and today has just been spotting. Wondering how you ladies cope with it? How long did you have bleeding? When did you finally ovulate again after MC?

Re: Intro! New Here. Need Advice

  • So sorry for your loss. I'm finishing up a mc myself so I don't have any advice. My bleeding seemed pretty light.  These ladies are wonderful.  Take care.

  • @keaton732 Im really sorry you are going through this. I had a D&C on 09/28 and had very little bleeding for 2 days. I am now 30 days post D&C and still waiting for AF. Not sure about ovulation since OPKs dont work until HCG is out of the system. I got my first BFN 3 weeks post D&C. Take care of yourself!

  • Hello, I'm very sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, and much to everyone's frustration, each person's recovery is different.

Personally, it took about 3 weeks for my very, very high HCG to crash to zero. I bled for about ten days and I spotted every single day after that until my next period. It started about 39 days after taking Misoprostol and I ovulated on CD 18. My next few cycles were a bit wonky, but have since regulated to about what they were previous.

After a miscarriage, there are a lot of different scenarios that might play out when it comes to your cycles. Take care!

  • @keaton732 I am so sorry for your loss. I agree with reneeannemm; everyone is different. I used Misoprostol, rather than a D&C, on 9/19, bled heavy that night/morning and then just clots for then next 8 days. I O'd on the 10th day and AF came on the 26th day (10/13). Had a positive OPK yesterday.
As far as getting through it, this board really helps. There are a lot of very knowledgeable women here and everyone is very supportive. It has helped to be able to "talk" about things with very understanding internet "strangers" that you might not want to share with someone you know IRL. Exercise and therapy have also helped many of us get through it.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I will share my experience even though I sincerely hope yours is different... I bled for 4 weeks after my d&c. It was not heavy and it was dark brown. I didn't have any physical pain, but I was in a bad place emotionally and a lot of that was feeling like the bleeding would never stop. 4 weeks in I started bleeding heavily with fresh red blood - I am certain it was my period but the doctors insisted there was no way I could've O'd. I wish that I had done opks every day after the d&c so that I could've had some insight into what was going on.

As for coping... still working on that, haha. My d&c was in July and it's still hard. Feels like it's getting harder the closer we get to my February EDD. I started seeing a therapist and that has helped. I also have been smoking a lot of weed, so probably not the healthiest method of coping, but I live in Colorado and figure I might as well take advantage.
  • Thanks ladies. Your information definitely has been useful. I will make sure I look at different discussions on here to understand things more. @reneeannemm and @NewMommyCoop
  • So sorry for your loss.

I had a d & c in august.  I bled for about 3.5 weeks.  Not heavy and dark brown.  Following the 3.5 weeks, when I exercised I had a bought of bright red blood.  That happened twice and doctors told me my body was still recovering. I physically had zero pain.  At about the 6 week mark I started my period.  It seemed fairly normal but the 2nd period was a week late.   Im now waiting to ovulate.

As far as emotionally healing....I was a mess for a few weeks.  It got a little easier each day.  I feel like the more I talked about with ladies on here and just about anyone who would listen the easier it got for me.  I also feel like being able to try again right away made it easier for me. I'm 41 and we want to grow our family so time is not on my side.  Leaning on my family was a big help too.

I agree reed that everyone is different when healing both physically and emotionally.  Take care of yourself.
  • @keaton732 So sorry for your loss.  I had a natural MC in February instead of D&C, and like the ladies have said previously, unfortunately, there's no normal with what happens afterwards or how your body will react.  I bled for about 10 days and my next period arrived about 4.5 weeks after that.  It took a long time for my HCG - which wasn't that high - to reach zero/negative.  And, my cycles afterwards took until August to regulate.  I hope your levels fall quickly and that your period returns normally.

Emotionally, for me this board has been a blessing.  Not many people knew I was pregnant and/or that we were trying, so it was a great outlet.  I didn't post much initially but even reading everyone's comments and experiences helped me grieve and process the loss.  Take care of yourself.

  • @Mack2342 Thanks for your information. My bleeding has actually started lighting up already. This is day 3 though but I also agree that the experience is different physically and emotionally. I am glad I became a part of this group for it is definitely helpful. I will definitely take care of myself though. Thanks and I pray you get a sticky baby soon.
  • Thanks @laeberge3 I do believe everyone go through it differently and this board definitely has helped me for these 3 first days for me. Thanks for the helpful information and I definitely will take care of myself you do the same and I pray we all get sticky rainbow babies soon.
  • So sorry for your loss. No experience with D&C here. I hope the bleeding resolves soon.

  • Thanks @rainbowwishes5 the bleeding had actually stopped but just started again very light pink though
  • I had a D&C 10 days ago. The day of and two days after, the bleeding was very light. Three days after, it turned to a medium flow with heavy bleeding at four days after. Light bleeding days five and six. Spotting day seven. Nothing day eight. Resumed exercise (running) on day eight and then had medium bleeding again day nine (yesterday). So far, only spotting today, and I won't be running again just in case that is what caused my bleeding to start again. My HCG was at 15,000 two days before D&C. Based on my HPT, I know it has dropped substantially, but I don't know the number. I'm here if you need support. This is a terrible thing to go through.

  • @mrsegan13;   My bleeding had stopped after my d & c and then I returned to teaching aerobics and had bright red bleeding afterwards. It lasted only a few hours afterwards but I called dr and was told it was my body's way of saying it wasn't ready and to take another week.  It happened again the next week when I went back to class.  So a few days later I taught my class again but did a lower impact class and no bleeding after that.  So I resumed back to full speed and no more bleeding.   Since you can't run at low impact I would say give your body a couple more days and try again.
  • Thanks @Mack2342; maybe I'll stick to walks. Not being able to exercise drives me a little crazy (plus no sex, tub baths). I can't even chart because there are still hormones in my system. It's being in limbo and I cannot wait to be out.

  • @mrsegan13 Thanks alot so we aren't too far apart from having one done. I had heavy bleeding the first day, spotting the second day for a few hours then it stopped, it started back light spotting late evening of day three and it continued to spot day 4 and day 5 (today) it stopped but when I just wiped a few seconds ago it was just a little bit on tissue. So idk when it is going to completely stop but hopefully soon. My hormones are outragious....My body be wanting sex sooo bad lol (TMI) but trying my best to hold out until the spotting stop completely for at least a couple of days.
