TTTC Checken 10/26/2016

Hello Everyone,

It's checkin time!

I'm finally feeling better from that awful round of the flu last week. Ugh. I still feel a little weak but at least I lost 6 lbs and can fit my better work clothes now. Thank you all so much for your well wishes!

Now onto much better news: Congratulations to @meli123k for your BFP!

And hugs for anyone who needs one today...

How is everybody doing?

Hi all! Glad to hear you're feeling better, @goldenkeys!

CD4 here. We saw a urologist two weeks ago and we're waiting for blood test results so he can determine which medication to prescribe DH to increase his sperm count/motile count in particular. Hopefully this week!

In the meantime, we're taking a three-month hiatus from IUI since it takes that long for the medication to have an impact.

QOTW I'm not a big Halloween person. We might go to a dog parade at a nearby park.

Not much to report just waiting for Dr appt next Monday. I did find out that DH is a carrier of cystic fibrosis so they want to do genetic testing on me to make sure I'm not also a carrier.

No plans for Halloween. I stopped giving out candy BC the last 3 years I only had one kid come by. Prob going to spend it with the fur babies!!!

@GoldenKeys - I am glad you're feeling better. And yay for losing 6 pounds. Sucks you had to get the flu for that to happen though!

@Bababatty - FX the medicine for your DH does the trick.

@Labluver2 - GL with the doctor appointment and the genetic testing.

@BecauseLove - I am sorry but I am not familiar with everything. What is Stims?

As for me, I am currently in my TWW. I was prescribed Provera by my gyno but ended up not needing it because AF came all by herself - maybe due to the threat of Provera lol. I am hoping that if I am not KU, that she decides to come on her own again. I am not looking forward to having to take the Provera if she doesn't :/

Edited to add: QOTW: What are your plans for Halloween weekend? I am working on Halloween so I'm not sure what plans (if any) we have.

    CD 3 for me.
AF is in full force....as my snack pile will confirm (a whole bag of chips ahoy cookies and, added today, licorice).

We are on our second month of Letrazole.  After this, if still no luck, then I will get the HSG done. So fx this last month works!

We don't have any plans for Halloween.  DH is an avid hunter so he will be in the woods.

Hi all! I've never participated in check-in before, but here's where I'm at.

Had my first appointment with RE last week--it was a very reassuring experience and made me feel like I'm finally making progress! She said that she is "98% certain" I have endometriosis, but wants to hold off on laparoscopy until all other avenues are explored--could possibly be a polyp. Ordered an HSG and some more blood tests.

I learned today that my insurance at work is changing. It doesn't make sense for me to proceed with treatment until my new plan starts in January... sigh. Two steps forward, one step back. Reoccurring theme of my medical care at this point. :(

I am CD23. I'm supposed to test on Friday from my first round of Clomid but I don't think I'll get to. I started spotting today, so I anticipate I will start my period tomorrow. I have a tiny little voice telling me that it *could* be implantation bleeding, but I'm just trying to get ready for the disappointment and another round of meds. Target really helped by sending me an entire baby themed catalog with a $20 coupon when you start a baby registry. Jerks.

QOTW: I am having a Halloween party Saturday night. Our theme for costumes is "Childhood Memories" so I am dressing up as Rainbow Brite.

@GoldenKeys – so glad you’re feeling better. I suppose the weight loss is a perk of the illness although I’m sure you wish you hadn’t had to go through all of that!

@Bababatty – I’m curious what your urologist will say! It sounds like he’s optimistic about being able to treat the low count which is great.

@labluver2 – fingers crossed that you aren’t a carrier too!

@becauselove – good luck with this IVF cycle!

@saphiresweetie88 – hope the TWW is going smoothly for you

@hoffmanr7 – hopefully this next month of letrozole does the trick!  Are you taking a higher dose this time or the same?

@avocuddle – sounds like a productive RE appointment!  Good luck with the other testing and hopefully you get some answers soon.

    @mandybeeSLP – sorry about the spotting =(

As for me, I’m in the TWW.  I got dashed crosshairs on my chart finally after posting it last week so I think I can trust that positive OPK to have indicated impending ovulation.  My luteal phase tends to be fairly short (9-11 days on average) so I’m hoping AF doesn’t show up before Sunday.  I’m testing daily like a crazy person to use up some of my cheapie tests.  I’m alternating between being hopeful and being distressed about another failed cycle (sometimes within the same day…)

QOTW: No Halloween plans here.  We will hand out candy on Halloween night to trick or treaters but we decided not to go to the Halloween party we usually do (and maybe I’ll be KU before then!) as I just don't have the energy to get a costume together this year.

@hoffmanr7 - Sorry AF is kicking your butt so to speak. FX Letrazole works for you this time.

@avocuddle - I am glad your RE appointment went well and you're feeling good about it. Sorry to hear about your insurance at work but January will be here soon!

@MandyBeeSLP - FX that you still get to test and it's not AF

@seethosestars - Thanks. I am still early into my TWW so it's okay so far. I am sure it will get worse because I am waiting until November 4th (hopefully) to test.

Hi ladies, for the record I always want to respond individually but by the time I get down here I can't remember everything I want to say. Shout out to the ladies that can keep it all straight. I really do care about all your journeys!

My baseline u/s showed a cyst :( so RE Rx 7 days of bcp. I took the first one yesterday and proceeded to vomit all night- I cannot tolerate the estrogen! When I called the dr office they told me that I was supposed to insert it vaginally... like what? Infertility is fun- said no one ever. Hoping that taking the pill that way minimizes the side effects, but have you ever heard of this? It's definitely an oral contraceptive.

Qotw- dh is heading to NH for his mom's Halloween party but I have to work so am staying behind. Hopefully will see some cute trick or treaters.

@lablover78  wth!! I would have been so pissed if they didn't tell me it was supposed to be vaginal... It wasn't on the label?!  I'm so sorry you were sick, that is very unfair.

I had my 3rd IUI on Sunday; 1 follicle and 18M motile swimmers this time. Here's hoping 3rd time's the charm. The TWW is so, so, so long.

DH is also starting the Coast Science men's fertility supplement to (hopefully) help his DNA fragmentation issues...
Seriously though, when he first opened it he was complaining about it's "vegetabley smell" Really!? REALLY SIR??!! this was just hours after he watched the most smarmy male RE doc force a speculum up my hoo-hah and insert a plastic pipette through my cervix.... and he's really going to complain about the "vegetabley" smell???? I could about strangle him... it's a good thing I love him.

CD 4 and AF has come and gone. Clomid Round #4 and trying to get a Day 12 follicular ultrasound lined up because the OPKs are not coming up positive and it's required for the IUI. Just waiting for a call from the Infertility Clinic. No answers when I ask the nurses about the lack of positives - maybe just tell me that it happens or it's not really indicative of anything. Something.

QOTW: Probably just going to water aerobics and going to bed early. ;)

@lablover78 oh my gosh I'd be so mad!  That seems like something they could have made sure you knew...I'm so sorry it made you sick.  From taking progesterone vaginally, my doctor said it's the quickest way to have it absorbed into your system, so hopefully it will knock out that cyst quickly!!!!!  FX for you, friend.  And I'm totally with you on the ladies who can do the long lists with tags, haha, I've tried it a few times and it takes me way too long.  Love to everybody!!!

@labluver2 Good luck with your genetic testing! One of the benefits of IF, I think, is doing the genetic testing before you're KU. I hope you get good news!

@BecauseLove Good luck with your stims! I hope you get lots of eggs!

@SaphireSweetie88 Thanks! I hope you have no cause to use provera--preferably because you're KU. Hope this TWW goes by quickly!

@hoffmanr7 I hope AF is much better today. Good luck with letrozole and FX for a successful cycle.

@avocuddle Welcome to the check-in! I'm sorry about your insurance woes, but glad you had a good appointment. I hope these two months go by quickly--and that your insurance is better than before. :)

@MandyBeeSLP I really hope AF did not come today, and that you get to test tomorrow. FX!!

@seethosestars He still hasn't gotten back to DH so now I'm getting frustrated. I'll push him to call the urologist again tomorrow. Good luck with the rest of your TWW! May AF stay away for a long time.

@lablover78 I'm so annoyed for you! You'd think for such an off-label use, they'd definitely tell you how they want it used. I had no idea a short course of BCP could resolve cysts. How will that affect your cycle? I hope your next pill does not have you up sick all night. So frustrating!

@ReesaAnne16 Your post made me chuckle. How our DHs can complain about having to do relatively simple and painless things is beyond me, when we have multiple people up in our business several days a month. I hope yours sucks it up and takes the supplements, haha. :) FX this IUI is successful!

@BenJay I'm glad you're pushing for u/s monitoring this cycle! I'm so frustrated for you that they wouldn't do this for you earlier. Good luck with your Clomid!

@lablover78 - We know you care so no worries about not remembering everything you want to say :). Sorry to hear the us showed a cyst and you were sick from the medicine. I'd be very upset if it was supposed to be taken vaginally and not orally and no one told me. I haven't heard of that before but I wonder if it is supposed to be orally but vaginally is a 2nd method if you get sick from it being taken orally?

@ReesaAnne16 - Fx for this time. I'd so e side-eyeing my DH if he said that lol. Men.... Gotta love them.

@BenJay - Sorry the nurses aren't telling you anything. Hoping the Clomid works this time around.

@Bababatty - I hope I don't have to use Provera either and yes hopefully it's due to being KU but if I'm not KU, I'll take AF being on time lol

@lablover78 I'm sorry the medicine made you sick. As far as oral medicine being taken vaginally, that's how I was told to take Estrace (estrogen) this cycle but they were very clear about how they wanted me to take it because it was an off-label use.

Good Luck with the ultrasound. I can't help you with what questions to ask but I would suggest keeping a notebook or something with you where you can jot down questions you think of between now and then so you don't have to try and remember them all at the ultrasound appointment.

Well, I officially started my period today. I also went in for my baseline scan because this was their only appointment and I had a huge cyst on my left ovary, so we are out this cycle. Bummer.

ETA: FWIW, since we were talking about earlier, my clinician didn't prescribe BC for my cyst. She said she doesn't thinks it helps. Who knows?! Anyone else feel like infertility treatment is more of and art than a science?

I'm sorry, @MandyBeeSLP! It's doubly frustrating to get that BFP (or AF) and then realize you can't even continue the next cycle. I hope you do something fun for yourself today.

I definitely get the feeling that IF treatment is more art, sometimes. Especially reading everyone's protocols; they're often very similar, but everyone's doctor has a few things they do differently. It's fascinating.

@MandyBeeSLP interesting! Yes definitely an art. My 2nd RE is night & day compared to my 1st RE. Who knows?! I really hate taking any kind of medication so I had a whole discussion with the PA about cycling naturally instead of BCP but then I must have gotten Jedi mind tricked b/c I walked out with a Rx.

I feel like I am always so late to this thread and there are about 20 posts I want to reply to, but doing this on my phone is the worst!!

@lablover78 im surprised the pharmacy didn't say something to you, how irritating. I had no idea you could put that med down there!

@BenJay glad you pushed for and got the us!

@MandyBeeSLP sorry for CD1 :( and I agree, all providers have their own "style". Working in the ER I could tell you which MD would prescribe what for different issues...it was all over the board and largely based on previous experience (should be based on research!)

Im still struggling this week. I had a training on maternal and infant assessments for the last three days and at the end of it my best friend told me she was pregnant after a month of trying. It's been the hardest week of this whole TTC journey for me. More crying when I got home last night.

Just feeling like this is never never going to happen for us, like we are going to try IVF and it won't work, then what? Then we are officially SOL.

We are hosting a Halloween party tonight (which will be a really good distraction!). We always dress up and love Halloween!!

@PoeMasque I am so sorry about your week. I remember one of the things that I dreaded the most was hearing my best friend say she was pregnant with her second. I really shouldn't have thought about it because they tried a long time before she got pregnant the first time, but something about her getting a second one before I for my first would have killed me. They decided to postpone trying again for another year, and luckily my treatment ended up working, but I knew in my heart it would severely affect our friendship if she got pregnant before me. Big hugs to you as your deal with all the emotions this week.

Saw the DR yesterday he told me that I didn't have a blockage after all but my tube has some inflammation and scar tissue. He said its not blocked tho so it would be up to me to do surgery to see what is going on.

He doesn't think it's smart to do clomid and timed intercourse at this point and said he would do IUI with clomid or IUI with the shots if I wanted to do more aggressive treatment. My husband and I already said IVF is out for us.

Of course our insurance covers nothing so now the stress is coming up with the money to do the IUI. So for right now we will just keep trying on our own and figure out the finance end of things. Doesn't help its right around the holidays.

@Labluver2 our insurance didn't cover IUI either and it was only $230. sperm washing was $24, although my insurance covered that 100% (go figure). I have always turned pos OPKs right around CD13 so we didn't do any US to determine O. US is where it gets spendy.

IUI hasn't worked for us, but it has worked for a lot of other ppl on this board. Fx it works for you too :)

They do a package its 1000 that includes all blood work, ultrasounds not sure about the clomid or the trigger shot. Its then another 380 for the actual IUI so a total of 1380 a cycle.

@labluver2 In case you're interested about medicine costs, my Clomid cost about $20. Technically my insurance covered it but they didn't pay anything. I have no idea how that works, so I don't know if Clomid is normally more expensive. My trigger is $84 without insurance, but prices vary from pharmacy to pharmacy. I got it from a pharmacy my RE said sold it at the cheapest price.
