Low heart rate

I had my ultrasound on Sunday, I was measuring at 6 weeks 2 days right where I should be, I even saw flickering for the heart beat. The midwife student called today and told me the heart rate was low 80bpm and could indicate a miscarriage, has anyone had this and it be ok, I'm terrified to lose another baby. They are requesting another ultrasound to check the heart rate again but can take a week or two. She asked if I had any spotting or cramps I said no and she seemed suprised.

Re: Low heart rate

  • I'm sorry you're going through that - very stressful.  Sometimes 6w can be difficult to tell.  My specialist is having me come in at 7w as he feels that should give a better idea what is happening.  Sorry I don't have better advice or specific experience.  Best of luck!

  • Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that! I don't have any advice to give, I just want you to know that my thoughts are with you. I'm sure it's a hard thing to be told. I hope things turn around, and I want you to know that we're all here, no matter what happens.

    FX everything is just fine!
  • I'm so sorry.  Like Elyse1384 said, 6 weeks can still be difficult to get an accurate reading.  No personal experience but sending creepy internet hugs and hoping everything is ok.
  •  Ugh sorry this is happening. You're still really early  so try not to stress too much! If you're not cramping or bleeding your little bun is still in there cooking.

  • My doctors usually won't do the US this early because of stuff like this. It's just hard to see at that point. Prayers and thoughts with you!!
  • Sorry you are going through this.  Sending you all the positive vibes to get through the week until your next sono.

  • I think the heartbeat can increase a lot over a short period of time... yesterday I was 6w5d and it was 128 bpm.  I was asked the same questions about spotting or cramping... she told me that next time I come in (10 days) it should be a lot higher (160 - 180 bpm) and don't stress due to this time of development it is building up... same thing, they just want to see it higher at the next scan.

  • I'm so sorry you are in limbo.  FX for a better scan next time.
  • I'm so sorry you're in limbo. I just had an ultrasound today at 5+6, and they could see a heartbeat, but couldn't yet pick it up to hear, and weren't concerned at all. FX it was just too early to tell and your scan comes quick and is better news!
  • Ugh, I'm sorry you're going through this.

I agree with PP; it's so early. My OB doesn't even make appointments until 8-10 weeks; she feels it's too early to make any determinations prior to then, anyway.

  • Ah man I'm so sorry to hear that, how stressful!

When i went through this, our baby's was 72bpm, I read up on it a lot, and found that it is very possible baby's heart is just gearing up and can increase in the coming days. Especially at just 6w2d, it could have literally just started beating.
Unforunately that wasn't the case for us, but we had already lost our baby's twin so ours was for other reasons.
I will be thinking of you, hoping for a glorious 150+ heartbeat next ultrasound!!
  • Thank you ladies, the reason for the ultrasound was to figure out dates since I didn't have a period between my miscarriage and this pregnancy. I'm hoping it's just early

  • Limbo is such a tough place to be.  I know it will be more stressful waiting for the next ultrasound, but I hope you get to see a nice strong heartbeat then!
  • Sending prayers for you and baby. Hoping it was just a little early!
  • I had an ultrasound at 6w2d (yesterday) and they didn't detect a heartbeat yet. They were not concerned at all. I had advanced from the ultrasound the previous week and that seemed to satisfy them. She actually said everything looked great and she was happy. My next one is scheduled for 8 weeks, which is what they are calling the "heartbeat ultrasound." I wouldn't worry too much yet. At least that's what I'm telling myself!

  • Glad to hear of the good news! My first US was at 7 weeks.  We saw a HB and I asked what the rate was and my doctor said it was too early to try for that!! So he wouldn't even check, but the fact he saw the heart beating he was totally fine with that. During my first pregnancy, my first US was at 9 weeks and they did an internal US and got the heart rate. So everyone is different!
