Cold remedies?

Anyone have any? 1st time pregnancy and i know there's lots of restrictions. I've been trying hot water with lemon and honey, but I just can't shake it......seems to be getting worse. Started blowing out yellow stuff and have a sore throat (no fun). Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks ladies!

Humidifier, vitamin C/B12, Vicks and Hot Toddy's minus the alcohol.  Hope you feel better soon.

I'm fighting some sort of virus too, but mine is gastrointestinal.

Benadryl is on my doctors approved list of medication. Maybe it will help with some relief. I second a humidifier and lots of Vitamin C. I hope you feel better soon!

I've been carrying a Saline nose spray in my purse, lol. I got mine from WalGreens.. it's by BFF most days.

Edit: also, my Dr. said I can take any of the Tylenol meds... so maybe Tylenol cold?

Thanks!! I think I'll check with my dr 1st about the benadryl or Tylenol cold cause I'm on progesterone pills and a baby aspirin a day right now so don't want to mix without getting an ok from them......been meaning to try a netti pot for a while now (heard great things about them), so what better time than the present  Thanks a lot everyone, I appreciate your suggestions!! I'll be trying some of these out for sure.....and grabbing a humidifier!!

I caught a cold with a sore throat during my first pregnancy and popsicles would always numb my throat and give me some relief. I also got totally desperate a few times and had some natural cough drops from the natural food market.

@jenburbank55 thanks! I didn't even think about popsicles........made homemade chicken noodle soup yesterday, but unfortunately I'm def doing a lot worse now  :/

Glad for this post!  Woke up with sore throats and sniffles this morning. Just remarked the other day that I'm shocked I haven't yet gotten sick (I always get sick when I move or start a new job and we did both this fall). Serves me right for jinxing myself!!!!

I was told not to take anything with a decongestant in it as it restricts blood flow to the baby. I've been battling a sinus infection, ear infection, and now a sore throat. I take benadryl, amoxicillan (went to the ER friday night), and robitussin (make sure to get the one w/o the decongestant). I also used the breathe right strips last night for the first time and I didn't wake up with a stuffed up nose but it all seems to have traveled down my throat, yuck.

if you feel really bad, I'd suggest seeing your doctor to rule out infection (sinus infection, strep throat, etc) because those require antibiotics.  Z-packs are also ok while pregnant, and could have the benefit of reducing the duration of your cold if you get them early enough.  If you run a fever, Tylenol is ok.  If you are coughing, regular old fashioned (not the fancy varieties) of Robitussin is fine.  Regular non-medicated cough drops are also ok, as is Vicks (or similar) rub.  I had a couple of colds the last time I was pregnant and they were brutal...all I wanted was hard core mucinex and that was not an option.  I wound up with a sinus infection and antibiotics with one and a Z-pack with the other.  They blew over eventually, but unfortunately some women are stuffed up for the entire pregnancy.

Thanks for the advice ladies! my drs office is brutal and tried calling yesterday but they seem to not want to do anything for me.....my being sick apparently is not important enough for them to offer advice or get an appointment (cant wait for my midwives...November 9th can't come soon enough!!). I'm on progesterone pills and a baby aspirin a day, so not sure if I can mix Tylenol  or anything like that. Read from others saline was ok long as not medicated (attempting to use salt water based ones) and neti pot was ok. Luckily i have no fever (knock on wood), but I'm worried about it turning into sinusitis or strep cause I usually get them least once a year. I've been stuffy since about 5 weeks and thought it was pregnancy related. Then been fighting this off since my two 8hr visits to the er when I was bleeding (one day to see a dr, next day for u/s then waiting for results). Thought I was almost in the clear but than bam, Monday it decided to turn into full fledge head cold with yellow stuff and all the fun stuff :/ glands are swollen now, which I don't like cause that usually happens to me right before it turns into strep. gonna try drs office again and demand an appointment  (my u/s results will hopefully be in today anyways from my er follow up visit Monday....I'm sure that helped me stay heathy, but this time I didn't wait around more sick ppl for the results!!). I'm used to buckleys, neocitrin, ortrivin, and a box of green tea, so been killing me to stray from my usual remedies!!! Really appreciate everyones suggestions!!

@JessErinF hope you feel better!!!

I feel your pain! I've been sick since Saturday night and I've had enough. I don't know if you're into essential oils at all but I've been using them and I think they're helping. Also I've been putting a heating pad on my neck and drinking lots of decaf hot tea to help with my thread. Hope you get some relief soon!!

Call or go in and talk to a pharmacist. They'll know whether there is any problem at least with the aspirin/tylenol thing. At least that could offer some relief if its allowed.

Thanks! Least i must sound as shitty as I feel cause just called my drs office and they finally agreed to give me an appointment today.......just gotta wait another 5 hrs before I go in. Was up half the night feeling like a bag of ass ran over twice. Nonstop sneezing, nose dripping (but can't blow cause too clogged), and ears popping with pressure when I swallow.......luckily throats not too bad in comparison to other stuff!! Hoping maybe steam from a shower will help in the meantime and then maybe I can actually get a bit of sleep till my appointment. If they dont give me guidance.....I'm definately taking your advice loopstation104 and going to the pharmacist!! oh the joys of being sick!!!

Hope you feel better soon thatlauragirl!!

@Ashley.G I was battling a cold last week.  I found this little nose strip at the pharmacy that you stick INSIDE your nose that had menthol in it.  It basically pulled your nostrils apart and the menthol helped to keep airways open.  It looked ridiculous, but it worked, and allowed me to get some sleep when I was so congested.

@merrylea thanks for the suggestion!! I'll have to try it out.....hopefully my pharmacy has it (live in a small town). my drs office couldn't offer much advice. told me to keep doing what I'm doing and recommended not to take anything else else. if I get a fever then they'll prescribe me amoxicillin but they'd rather not have me taking anything since I'm on the progesterone and baby aspirin :/

@thatlauragirl thanks, it's one of my favorite sayings.....been using it for years when I'm really sick :p

You can also take regular Mucinex the expectorant (not Mucinex DM).
