Diclegis

At my appointment this week I broke down and asked for Diclegis for this awful nausea that I can't shake. I missed a day of work for it already, which is just ridiculous. I'm on day two of taking it, and it hasn't even touched it. Anyone have luck with it? When I had my twins, I think I only took Zofran 2 or 3 times my whole pregnancy, so this is new.

My friend has success with it.  I think with anything, it takes a few days.  I know Zofran took three or four days before it went away for me.

I haven't bit the bullet and asked for anything yet, though she did offer me Diclegis, Phenergan, and Zofran.  She said that people preferred Diclegis because it didn't come with the constipation or other side effects.  Which is good, because I refuse to take Zofran this time.

  • I totally agree-- she offered me Zofran, and I said I would only take that in the most dire circumstances.  It was awful!

  • With my last pregnancy I was diagnosed with HG, losing weight rapidly, and the Dr put me on Diclegis, Phenergan, Zofran, and Reglan.  It was really the Reglan that helped regulate the nausea and vomiting for me the most.  (Although I found that I still needed the other meds- when I tried weaning off them things would go south fast.)  The only downside to Reglan is that it gives some people anxiety.  I'm on Diclegis and Phenergan currently but it's doing nothing, I will be calling the dr on Monday to add Zofran and Reglan to the mix and hope that will give me a little bit of relief.
  • I do the poor man's version of diclegis, aka unisom and B6. If I don't take it at night, I'm miserable.

Reglan gives me the anxiety big time!! (Was on it for other nausea years ago. Not pregnancy nausea.) I'm thinking I would love to take something because this nausea is draining, but I'm not sure they give anything here unless you have HG. Which I don't. But I'm so going to ask next week at my first appointment.

  • Breaking down and going to try the unisom (i.e., doxylamine) and B6 route today once my Amazon shipment gets here.... essentially OTC diclegis.

How much has everyone else been taking of each?

I'm going with 25mg B6 3 times per day and then 12.5mg unisom in the morning and afternoon, then 25mg before bed.
  • I'm taking it 3 times/day.  2 at night before bed, 1 right when I get up, and 1 before lunch.  It took about 3-4 days for it to kick in, but I can definitely tell if I forget a pill.
I had lost 6 pounds in 2.5 weeks, so this has been a Godsend for me.

I'm on day 4 today, and it's FINALLY kicking in.  Thank goodness, because I was terrified how I'd function teaching today!  I can tell it's wearing off at night, though, so I'm thinking I might start taking one right before lunch.  So far, I've had almost no side effects, which is a welcome relief after taking Zofran my last pregnancy!

I'm afraid taking unisom during the day will make me a zombie.  So far I've only taken one unisom/B6 in the evening before bed and then b6 in the morning.
