First Signal Pregnancy Test

I got an extremely faint line yesterday morning and got my blood work done same day. ( I miscarried a month ago). Found out that my HCG level was at 5. (10 dpo) I'm amazed it picked that low of a number up! My doctor said it could maybe be left over from my miscarriage still. He said we'll retest on Monday if I'm still getting positive tests. (Today's test is decidedly darker. yay!!)Anybody else ever heard of a test that was that sensitive? For those of you who did blood work, what were your numbers the day you got a positive test??

Re: First Signal Pregnancy Test

  • This is a great question for the weekly Pregnancy chatter board - there is a lot more action on that board and you are more likely to get a quick response.

  • I would definitely keep taking tests! I also got pregnant right after a mc.  Did they do blood draws after your mc to make sure you went to 0? I had blood draws after mine to make sure and my lay draw was a 2 and a week and a half later I got a positive test.  I think the most sensitive tests turn positive at 25? My doctor said they count below 5 as not pregnant because some women have hcg in their system.  I didn't do a blood draw for another week so I was already 5weeks pregnant and my hcg was 1700.

Good luck! The only way to know is keep drawing betas.  They also might want to do an early ultrasound.
  • I'm not familiar with that brand but I have heard reports of tests being much more sensitive than what they advertise. As low as 5 though, I don't know. I've seen more in the 6-10 range, just from my own research (I know there's a real peer-reviewed article out there that I referenced at one point). Any less than 5 is not considered pregnant so I don't know the utility in a test being made to measure that low. Today's darker positive seems like a good sign though. I hope you get good news.
  • No advice but lots of baby dust to you!

  • It was at three when they checked three weeks ago.
  • Holy moly, what a sensitive test! It's crazy, my last pregnancy I picked up a positive on a wondfo and a dollar tree cheapie before it showed up on FRER.

  • @thatlauragirl Yeah, I'm getting less and less impressed with frer! Knowing that the quantitative HCG test numbers can vary sightly tells me it's possible my HCG level was actually closer to 6 or 7 which would make it SLIGHTLY more possible for the test to pick it up. I read somewhere that First Signal can pick up 6.5.
  • I don't have personal experience to share, but I have heard of other ladies getting positives and then HCG comes back at 5 or close to it. FX that you are still getting positives come Monday and will have a higher HCG level!
