Not sure if we ever had this post previously, but post your pet pics.

DH and I are completely nuts and just brought home a puppy today. Add that on to 3 boys and a baby on the way! Meet our baby girl, name still pending.

Thank you ladies. Night 1 was rough. I was up every hour, worse than when DS was a newborn! I told DH we have to find a different spot in the house for her at night because this momma needs her sleep!!

@ShelbyTaryn I love boxers! They are probably my 2nd choice in dog breed. My aunt had one and she was the sweetest dog ever!

@cafedisco I might just take you up on the offer of training tips. Our pup is also a pit. I must confess that I was a bit hesitant to openly share that info here at first since they have such a bad reputation. My dad has rescued two pits before and both were such amazing dogs! First question, do you have any tips in helping with the overnight hours? She is only 7 weeks and we had her in our bathroom to contain any pee/poop mess. She cried all night long.

@jdupree15 are your cats related? They look so similar! I also have a cat, but she stays at my mom's house since that is the only home she has ever known. She's now 16 and not doing well. I've been trying to convince DH to let us get a cat, but he is not a cat person.

ETA: words are hard when you have puppy brain.

  • @KirstinH88 Yup! They are brothers... They will be 10 years old next April. My DH gave them to me as kittens as a present.
  • I love all the pets!! We don't currently have any, but I want an english bulldog so bad. I was really close to getting one then I got PG so probably after baby is a few months old :)

  • @KirstinH88 Wow.  You are clearly a crazy lady. I wish you luck (and sleep!) as you're training your new family member.  She's super cute. I hope you get another little girl to join you in April as I know you're often outnumbered in your household.

    Phoebe is gorgeous, @HGRich
  • @thecavfamily Thanks! Honestly, this was my one condition on getting a dog. It had to be a girl. I can't be COMPLETELY outnumbered. Maybe I'll just watch princess movies with the puppy!  ;) But yes, I am praying and hoping that baby is a girl. :)

  • @KirstinH88 pitties really are the best!  Because there isn't really a "pure bred" left of them, they are typically pretty healthy and, in general, are amazing family dogs!  I didn't even realize their reputation really when we adopted ours but since then, I've become a HUGE pitbull advocate.  We dress Torii up with fairy wings and bows and crap and take her out on the town all the time to make her approachable.  People come and pet on her and love her and then they are always so surprised to hear what type of dog she is. They definitely don't deserve their reputation!

As far as puppy potty training, I have to confess, I've never done it!  Between ours and any dogs we've fostered, they've always come to us house trained!  No advice there except good luck!

Looks like since a few people are interested in training tips, I'll work on starting up a thread of it's own that people can add advice to :)

  • Thanks @thecavfamily! We think she's pretty too.  :D We call her our Disney princess. Haha.
  • You ladies have the cutest pets!! DH and I were thinking about getting a dog but decided to wait a while - and now that we're pregnant it won't happen until we're in a routine with LO.  All of these pictures of your kiddos loving on their pets makes me want a dog for sure though!

  • my youngest loving on our rescue GSD, Bruno
  • This is my little lady,  Boo.  She'll be 7 when our son is (hopefully) born. I rescued her from a kill shelter in Texas.  Through DNA testing I learned that she is primarily a Greyhound/Siberian Husky cross. @HGRich I, too,  am a bad "dog mom." My husband says she's spoiled, I always correct him to say that she's just well loved  (but no,  she's definitely spoiled). @cafedisco I could definitely use some advice on how to prep my Boo girl for baby.  She likes to heel small children and animals.  :o

@thecavfamily omg the smile on that dog!! Love it!

  • @Nolegirl1185 you have a zoo! I grew up in a zoo--five birds two cats and a dog, as well as several fish but DH isn't as open to the idea of more than one pet.
  • @HGRich yes! Sometimes it feels like a zoo keeping up with all the feeding and cleaning too.  We used to have bearded dragons and 3 different fish tanks, but we downgraded.  If our landlord allowed dogs, I'm sure we would have one of those as well.  I'm secretly glad we aren't allowed, DH wants a dog so bad. I have 21 children at work, a child on the way, and a zoo to care for, I don't need a dog too!

What kind of birds did you have?  We just had little parakeets that a friend begged us to take when they had to move.  I would love a cockatoo, but I wouldn't be able to give it the proper attention.

  • @Nolegirl1185 Do the cats not try to "get" the rats? When I was younger I had cats and hamsters, and let's just say...the hamsters didn't win.

  • @Nolegirl1185 doves, actually. My dad's side job/hobby was stage magic and we trained doves to sit inside coat pockets, fly around the room and come back, and lie upside down in your hand. In general they're the stupidest birds but we loved them. Haha. Four java doves and one ring neck who lived to be 17 years old.
  • @Nolegirl1185 I love rats! I've had several. I wish my husband would warm up to the idea of our kids eventually getting rats.
  • @KirstinH88 The cats are curious, but have never attempted anything.  We introduced them to each other after a few weeks of having the rats.  The cats are actually a little afraid of them, they don't know what to think.  Now when the birds were around...that was another story.  They had to be separated at all times.

  • @HGRich that is the coolest thing ever!  The doves can't be THAT dumb if they can be trained to do those things!! ;) Love hearing neat things like this!

  • My baby girl and our fluffball Meeko! They are best friends, he was always protective of me and now her.
  • @justdoit93 how precious!!! I want a cat so bad, but DH isn't a cat person and we already have child #4 on the way and a brand new puppy..
