Pregnancy Chatter and Questions- Week of October 9

Re: Pregnancy Chatter and Questions- Week of October 9

  • Is anyone else already having bizarre dreams?  I wake up a few times a night to go to the bathroom and each time a new dream happens.  It's been awhile since I was pregnant this long, but I don't remember it happening this early with my son.  It might just be that I'm scared for loss and it's hitting my subconscious?

  • I went med free with both of my labors.
#1 - 6 days late. long labor, sunny side up so horrible back pain.
#2 - 9 days late induced with pit. Arrived at the hospital at 5am. Started pit around 7:30. She was born by 12:30pm.
Im hoping to go med free with this birth also.

  • @HookEmNelson

every. single. night. It's really impacting my quality of sleep, as if I'm not tired enough!

  • Haven't had bizarre dreams. But the night sweats are real. Drenched.
  • @HookEmNelson @swanbrooner I almost would prefer having dreams; I can't seem to stay asleep to save my life!
  • Reposting here....is anyone else taking these?   My doc had me start 100mg progesterone micropills last night; I need to insert vaginally.   I pushed it in really far (just with my finger no applicator or anything).   When I woke up, I had white chalky discharge followed by some very slight brown spotting.  It was barely anything but I haven't been spotting at all until this.  Does this sound normal?

For STM+, were any of you still nursing during a pregnancy? Did you dry up and/or did your LO stop nursing because of it?

DD is 10 months old and I want to breastfeed her until she's at least 1. I dont pump regularly, but I have before and I tried pumping last night and this morning and got less than an ounce from both sides when I would normally get 4+ ounces during a session. Could I be drying up already?
With my second pregnancy, I was nursing my two year old and planned tandem nursing afterwards.

It lasted like to 8 weeks of being pregnant. I had a nursing aversion and couldn't stop throwing up. I lost a ton of weight.

And yes, some women nurse through and some don't. Being pregnant can definitely affect your milk supply.
Thanks for the input! I've been pumping regularly now and I'm getting a good output now. I want to have a stash in case I do dry up.

My my doctor told me that they would want me to stop nursing when I get to the 2nd trimester...not sure how I feel about that.

    That's great that you've seen a boost!

The recommendation to stop nursing during pregnancy is pretty old-fashioned and not evidence-based, especially if you don't have a history of pre-term labor. Not saying you shouldn't trust your doc but I've been told by midwives in 2 different practices that's it's absolutely fine if I want to continue.

Every night. My dreams are so bizarre. I remember this happening during my pregnancy with my daugther but had forgotten how insane it is.
  • I had weird vivid dreams with DD and I'm having them now too.  I think that's pretty normal, and due to hormone fluctuations.  Haven't had a dream about the sex of the baby yet.  I had several last time.  It was a girl more often than a boy and I did have a girl...though DH and I both had a strong feeling it was a girl right away too.  i kind of think/hope this one is a girl too...I grew up with a sister, and we just have SO MUCH girl clothing already that I'd like to use again.  All of our big stuff is neutral though so we'd just need more clothes if it is a boy this time.  Not too big of a deal.
  • I haven't had any really bizarre dreams. I did dream last night that I started to bleed, a decent amount, not just spotting, and I was worried I would lose the baby. :'(  Was so happy when I woke up, went to the bathroom and nothing!

That's what I thought! It surprised me because my provider is pretty progressive and they are big advocates for breastfeeding. I'll see how we're doing when I get to that point. (she'll be 1 and probably close to weaning because she loves food!)

I had a similar dream last night.  :(
  • @delujm0 - we're the same way with all the girl clothes! Luckily, I restrained myself from the pink and bought mostly neutral big stuff, too. I have a feeling this is a girl but last time I was certain I was having a boy...not so much.

  • @lovesclimbing and @thankfully, sorry about your dreams. Those types are just cruel.

Last night i had a dream my best friend's mom passed. It was horrible and I woke up crying.
  • Haven't had dreams but I've been sleeping better.   Going to bed at 11 (usually I'm up til 12 or 1 am) and then waking up right when my alarm goes at 7 instead of hitting snooze for an hour or so.   Let's see if that lasts.

I have no experience with the pills themselves, but any time you are putting something into your vagina you are at risk for an irritated cervix which is probably the cause of the spotting - especially considering it was an isolated incident. Brown blood, is old blood which is totally normal (and the best color of spotting to have). Even sex can cause you to start spotting, everything down there is going to be extra sensitive.

If the spotting becomes red or full blown bleeding, call your doctor.

I am feeling the same way! I get irritable then can cry the next.

  • @HookEmNelson Definitely have some weird dreams going on. Last week it was a dream that I was supposed to be dogsitting an old coworker's dog but then I just forgot to go to her house and woke up in a complete panic thinking this woman hated me.

I'm not one to have vivid dreams very often but with every pregnancy mine have started up right away. I've known I was pregnant for 4 days now and I've had vivid dreams 2 of the nights! I need to look into why that happens because I don't get it.

  • @verde1984 I'm on prometrium (progesterone) 200mg that can be taken orally or used as a vaginal suppository, according to my RE. I've noticed that when I use it as a suppository I always end up with a lot of...stuff on my pantyliner. I'm assuming most of it is dissolved progesterone capsule and contents but it looks like there may be a little spotting sometimes also. It's hard to tell because the capsules are a red color. I've also noticed that after doing suppositories for several days my cervix and vagina get really super irritated. I've started switching back and forth between doing the progesterone orally and vaginally. Since the RE said either was fine and oral just had more side effects I figured it doesn't matter and I just hate having my cervix and vagina so irritated.

I'm pretty sure some discharge and spotting is pretty normal because of the irritation that goes with using the suppositories.

  • Imagine that you have one boy and one girl, what gender would you like your third child to be, and why?

  • @verde1984 Wish I could give you some insight on that type of progesterone, friend.  I am taking 200mg of progesterone pill form daily, and will for the first trimester.  Going into this pregnancy, and knowing I generally have low progesterone with my losses, I was wondering if they would prescribe me suppositories.

Agree with this 100%. I take prometrium and I learned really quickly to be gentle. A significant number of people spot on the suppositories because it's so sensitive up there.

Oh man, I am having crazy dreams. Like, hurting other people, flirting with random guys, post apocalyptic landscapes, and in my dreams, my super loyal, fantastic husband is a douche. Also, lots of people are trying to hurt and abuse my daughter, so I like...fight them. My dreams are so out of character.

  • I confess, I'm not caught up on the rest of this thread. I have a dating question. I know they normally date a pregnancy starting at your last period, assuming that ovulation occurs 14 days after the first day of your last period, and that your period is expected 28 days after, so 28 days after your last period is your "missed period" and the date that you are considered weeks.
Of course not all women have 28 day cycles or ovulate on cycle day 14.
So for those of us that were charting and know when we ovulated, and we didnt ovulate on day 14, how do we date it? My last period was Sept 20. The traditional methods says I am not 4 weeks pregnant until Tuesday. But I ovulated on Oct 1 and am currently 14 dpo. So am I 4 weeks now, or 4 weeks on Tuesday?
Fertility friend predicted my period to be due today, based on my typical cycle length and LP length (26 days) .
I should add that I know this doesn't matter much in the long run as its only a couple days, and I wont know anything for sure until my first ultrasound. But I am curious, honestly.

    Stuck in the box.
I'm a bit too early yet for this yet but with my last pregnancy omg yes. Super crazy dreams. The only dream of note this time was that I dreamt about getting a positive test the night before I first tested.

  • @jackiemarie1989 if you were charting and know your O date you can assume that you are 4 weeks at 14dpo.  Your doctor will usually bring you in based on lmp for a dating scan sometime between 7-10 weeks.  Unless your ovulation date is waaaaay off from cd14, that is usually fine.  With DD I ovulated cd31 so I fought the Dr to come in later, as based on lmp they would have seen nothing at 8w (i would have only been 5.5 weeks for real).  This time I ovulated cd19 so I let them schedule me based on lmp.  Should only be a few days off, which is fine.
  • Thanks @delujm0. That's what I figured but was curious to know what other ladies who were charting did.

If your lucky you can find an app that does pregnancy reflections, like headspace. I've been using headspace for 2 months and I've built some good habits.

  • @lizerspitz I love headspace!! I have the free version, so I don't think I have the pregnancy meditation. Gonna look into it!
  • I saw the founder of headspace speak at SXSW this year and he led us through a life meditation- trippy!
  • @Knottie9983816 I did pay for the whole package. I felt like it's worth it but it's up to how bored you get with the basics. They have a ton of stuff.

See I've been trying the free version of headspace and I'm not loving the Take 10 meditation they start you on.   I liked the free version of Calm a lot better, but that pregnancy reflection does sound great and they don't have one on Calm it looks like.   Might have to try sticking with headspace a bit longer before deciding which one I'm gonna subscribe too.   Thanks!
