  • Here are mine-
Favorite book?  Cosmicomics by Italo Calvino
Favorite series? Of course I love Harry Potter, but I think I have to say that the Anne of Green Gables series is my all time favorite!
Favorite author? This one's really hard!  I love all of Italo Calvino's books, and all of Ruth Reichl's books.
Favorite children's/ baby book?  I love all of the Alfie books by Shirley Hughes.
Book you think everyone should read at some point?  Partly because of my heritage, but I think that everyone should read The Diary of Anne Frank at some point in their lives.

  • @MoshiMoshi7 Agree with Throne of Glass!  :)
  • Favorite book? - God, there are so many. Lol. I love all Jane Austen stuff, "Brothers Karamazoff" (should probably reread this one), Tonino Benaquista's "Saga", "Malavita" and a couple of others, "The perks of being a wallflower"
Favorite series? - Definitely Harry Potter. I grew up waiting for the next book.
Favorite author? - well, Jane Austen
Favorite children's/baby book?  - I'd really recommend Astrid Lindgren's "Seacrow Island', it's one of my all time favourites (and Emil of Lönneberga series)
Book you think everyone should read at some point? - "The perks of being a wallflower". I think i'd really like my kids to read it when they're teenagers. I read it as an adult and loved it.
  • @SKZW did you read Empire of Storms yet?! So good! I can't believe we have to wait a year for the next one!

  • @Squirtgun Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorites too. Have you seen the movies?
  • Favorite book? Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

Favorite author? Brandon Sanderson. I haven't found a book of his I've disliked yet
Favorite children's/baby book? Dinosaur Kisses. We picked it up from target and then read it at home and it surprised me. Also, it's the only book my son will sit through lol

  • Favorite book? I have a lot of favorites but Pride & Prejudice is one that I can always re-read.
Favorite series? Harry Potter, Outlander, Saga graphic novels
Favorite author? Neil Gaiman, JK Rowling, George RR Martin (although his novels take me foreeevver)
Favorite children's/baby book? I don't really have a favorite baby book, although the speech therapist in me always appreciates books like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie because of the sequencing. My favorite children's books growing up were HP, Island of the Blue Dolphins, and the Wayside School series.
Book you think everyone should read at some point? Not everyone enjoys reading, so I just hope that everyone has at least one book that they have found to be totally engrossing and impactful to read.

  • @blissfulberry your comment about If you Give a Mouse A Cookie made me laugh :) one of my professors will get free kids books every now and then and give them to the grad students. We then each have to come up with any speech or language activity to go along with the book.

Favorite book? Little House on the Prairie

Favourite author: I don't think that I could pick a favourite, but Jane Austen and Bill Bryson never let me down.

Favourite children's book: Hippos Go Berserk by
Sandra Boynton, the Narnia series, and The Giver (@shopaholic I agree - fantastic book!!)

Books everyone should read: I don't think I can narrow it down.

I've never read Perks of Being a Wallflower, but I've seen the movie. I'll have to add that one to my "buy" list since so many of you love it.

  • @kayemjay2 they are making the handmaid's tale into a tv show on hulu
  • @Yiggle09 - I hadn't heard about that! I don't watch Hulu very often, but I may have to check it out :)

  • Favorite book? I don't know that I have one stand-alone favorite. Here are some I like: 1st & 3rd
HPs, Never Cry Wolf, The Sound of Thunder (a short story), Fahrenheit 451, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Bridge to Terebithia... I'm sure there are more somewhere
Favorite series? Harry Potter for life
Favorite author? I'm really not good at the favorites game... When I was in middle school I read all of the Gary Paulsen (author of The Hatchet) in my school library. Lol, I don't know that he is my favorite now.
Favorite children's/baby book? Bones Bones, Dinosaur Bones by Byron Barton; Please, Baby, Please by Spike Lee; and Owl Moon by Jane Yolen. For older kids, Idk what's trendy now but I really liked (in addition to HP) the Ramona books, The Hatchet series, Holes, Shabanu, The Hobbit, The Giver, Old Yeller, and these diary ones about different historical women rulers when they were young (Cleopatra, Marie Antoinette, etc)
Book you think everyone should read at some point? Quiet by Susan Cain. It's about America's culture of extraversion/rewarding extraverted behavior when 1/3-1/2 of the population is introverted.
  • I love this!  I am always looking for new books!

Favorite book? Hard question, so I'm breaking it down a bit:
    - Favorite "classic" books: Of Mice and Men, To Kill a Mockingbird
    - Favorite more modern books: Me Before You (didn't see the movie, loved the book), Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (also didn't see the movie, heard it was bad, the book is amazing).
    - Favorite recent reads: The Husband's Secret, The Storyteller, The Secret Keeper, And the Mountains Echoed
    Favorite series? Harry Potter
Favorite author? I love John Steinbeck and Jojo Moyes (very different, haha).
Favorite children's/baby book? Go Dog Go is a classic.  Also as @CherryBananas mentioned, Sandra Boynton is awesome.
Book you think everyone should read at some point? A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson - it's the only nonfiction on my list but I do strongly believe everyone should read it at some point.  It's basically an overview of the universe (geology, biology, astronomy, etc.) written for non-science people.  Very informative and just stuff everyone should know.
  • @contrarationemMy parents used to read chapters to us so I know there's no way I got it at first lol, but I re-read it so many times I think it must have slowly come to me

@CherryBananas Ooh, The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver was a great book!

Yiggle09 I debated adding Ender's Game!  It was actually assigned reading for some of my classmates and I always felt unlucky it wasn't for me
  • @Jbananas4 I read it independently back in school and then years later it was a summer reading book and I was like score I don't have to read another! I can read it over and over again for whatever reason and I was so disapointed with the movie

  • Favorite book? I have so many favorites, but if I had to narrow it down, Pride and Prejudice.
    Favorite series? HP
Favorite author? Nope can't answer this one. It depends on what I'm in the mood for.
Favorite children's/baby book? Does YA count? I love the Uglies series by Scott Westerfield for older kids. Otherwise, probably the Berenstein Bears or Little Critter books. Or Disney Goldenbooks.
Book you think everyone should read at some point? Not any one book, just whatever book peaks your interest in becoming a reader. Reading is too important to limit it to just one.
  • Ah, everyone's lists are so good!!  Y'all are reminding me of books I had forgotten about, and also have so many books I've never heard of!!

@Shopaholic actually, no, I've never seen the movies!

And I have to admit, because so many people listed it, I really don't like the Giver!  I like a lot of other books by Lois Lowry, but The Giver has always freaked me out!  (I think partly because I had to read it in second grade, and the teacher thought I wouldn't get some of the more horrifying aspects of the society, and I totally did.)

@Yiggle09 ahhh I was more disappointed in the movie than any other book-to-movie ever!  Especially considering Orson Scott Card was so picky with selling the rights to let it get made at all (I may or may not read his blog every so often lol)

ETA fat fingers!  got called by my Dr so didn't take the time to read what I wrote before posting lol
  • @Squirtgun we read it in 7th grade I read it in one night not knowing we were going to read during class lol they made me do more vocabulary homework to do in class while everyone read it
  • Favorite book? I don't know if I have a favorite. I read all the time, mostly thrillers/mysteries. "Sharp Objects" by Gillian Flynn was way better than Gone Girl. The twist was super interesting. I just started "The Good Girl" by May Kubica.

Favorite series? @luckywife10 I LOVED The Dear America series growing up. I don't think I have a current favorite series. I read all of the Hunger Game series. I've never read Harry Potter.

Favorite author? Frank Peretti or Ted Dekker, the are Christian authors who write about spiritual warefare. Fun fact, John Grisham lived right down the road from my parents while I was in college. He paid for the ball park my brother played baseball at and game to the first game each season.

Favorite children's/baby book? For DD we like "If You Ever Want To Bring An Alligator To School, Don't!" by Elise Parsley. She is my good friend's sister! I can't wait until DD is old enough to read American Girl Doll books and the Amber Brown series.

Book you think everyone should read at some point? Hmm idk.
  • Ooooh, a book post! I've been needing some inspiration.

Favorite book: I have many, but Cold Mountain is definitely top 5. Little Women and Rebecca are also favorites.

Favorite series: I'm going to have to jump on the HP and Anne of Green Gables wagon. Loovvve those series. I also love a series by Nora Roberts called the Born trilogy.. it's about three sisters in Ireland and I love Ireland. They're my guilty pleasure books.

Favorite author: Jane Austen, JK Rowling, Daphne DuMaurier, Laura Kinsale, LM Montgomery.

Favorite Childrens/baby book: I Can Fly ( it's a vintage little golden book), Sunshine and Snowballs by Margaret Wise Brown.... My favorite YA books are The Giver and Up a Road Slowly by Irene Hunt. I was into the Tamora Pierce books back in the day too.

Did the mention of a book club come up in an earlier forum? It sounds familiar. I like the idea of book clubs. I don't know that I can commit to one until my term is over though. Any reading I do really should be for my classes (or preparing for baby!).

edit- I think I mean post, not forum. Hopefully you all know what I mean.
  • I couldn't remember if it had been mentioned. I was lurking my old BMB yesterday and they have one going so that's what made me think of it.
